Swaziland recently changed their name to Eswatini because the king didn't like that people kept confusing them with Switzerland
@aphiwethwala84595 жыл бұрын
Actually, no. Swaziland is a name given to us by the colonisers who came to the country after goung through the Zulu nation, who called us Swazi in their native Zulu tongue. Therefore colonisers called our country Swaziland, as in land of the Swazi. However we are not Swazi, but rather Swati. Before Colonisation we were known as KaNgwane or eSwatini since the natives of the country are called emaSwati. We have always called our country Eswatini in our native tongue. The recent name change was a declaration to the world rather than anything. But the removal of the constant confusion with Switzerland is an added bonus
@aphiwethwala84595 жыл бұрын
To add to the rather short discussion on our king, Sobhuza. He is recognised for ushering Swaziland to colonial freedom without any violence and bloodshed. Throughout his reign, the country experienced prosperity and he is widely the most beloved King we have ever had.

When Queen Elizabeth was very young, people who had known Queen Victoria said she was the "spitting image" of the old queen. Not just in looks, but in personality. Queen Elizabeth's former governess, Marion Crawford, described her obsessive compulsive personality disorder in detail in her memoir; "At 6 years old she was a complete stickler for rules and protocol, harshly criticizing palace staff if they did not treat her with complete decorum" (People with copd are different than those with OCD. OCD sufferers have intrusive thoughts, OCPD sufferers believe their intrusive thoughts are correct). Elizabeth's grandmother, Queen Mary, herself a stickler for perfect behavior, realized that her granddaughter had a problem. She began to take her out often to events, museums, etc. making sure that she treated everyone with kindness whether they acted perfectly toward her or not. Queen Mary made her apologize to people she was critical of, and to remember her place was "in service" to others, not the other way around. Queen Mary did not understand or believe in psychiatry, but she helped her granddaughter to modify her behavior in a healthy way, while instilling the importance of empathy. Queen Victoria had had the same disorder, and had made everyone's lives in the palace a complete misery as long as she reigned. Queen Mary, as the next in line to be queen, bore the brunt of her unchecked obsessions....
@christineparis56075 жыл бұрын
@James Walker I think it is always very painful to grow up under parents with problems. Everyone does, to some extent, but to do so in the public eye is almost unbearable. You are condemned to silence, and unable to express your side of things, all the while surrounded by people you can never fully trust, who either hate you, or want to be you. It's unbearable pressure. The reason people develop coping mechanisms is to keep their sanity as much as possible. Believe me, they are to be pitied more than envied.

Japanese emperors are not referred to by their first name after death but after the name of their reign. So “Hirohito” would be properly referred to as Showa, as his ancestors are known by the names of their reigns. Taisho (the name used in this video) is actually the name of his reign and his real name was “Yoshihito,” Emperor Meiji was actually “Mutsuhito,” and so on. But for whatever reason, Occidentals break this rule with “Hirohito.”
@nelsonricardo37295 жыл бұрын
If "Orientals" is unacceptable, why would "Occidentals" be okay?

Pepi 2, of the 6th Dynasty of Egypt in the Old Kingdom is know to have ruled for at least 63 years, and possibly as many as 93 years. Many Egyptologists accredit the collapse of the Old Kingdom to this long reign and the crisis of succession it created. Many Egyptologists also accredit the tradition from the second kingdom wherein the Pharaoh must prove his physical prowess annually as coming from the memory of this monarch who reigned far beyond a sensible amount of time. Whether the revised reign (63 years) or the original assessment (93 years), Pepi 2 belongs on this list.
