The Grey Sisters were victims of circumstance and of their parents ambitions. You can't help feeling sad for them but Mary Grey survived the harshness of her situation. Even though Elizabeth I detested the Greys because they are a threat to her she did find a degree of respect for Mary for not making any claims to her crown and thought her less a threat than her elder sister Katharine.

I've been fascinated with "Gloriana" since I was little. Yet, the older I get, the less "glorious" she becomes. Times were different but this woman had unbelievable PR. History is written by the victors.

@@Ashley-vs8nu the older we get the wiser we get. She was a user of people and tried to destroy anyone who didn’t do exactly what she wanted. I believe she was jealous of women who found love and got married. But she could have married Robert Dudley but chose not to. She was afraid of losing her power.

Wasn't Lettice Knollys the granddaughter of Mary Boleyn? That always adds another layer to the many reasons that I think the jealousy was so thick between her and Elizabeth. The WORST thing she could've done was marry Dudley. She had to know that. So, did she do it out of spite? Or did Lettice truly love him?

The amount of idiotic comments that go along the lines of blaming the woman who didn’t wish to be married off, against her will, to an old gizzer, really make it very clear how the inhabitants of this troubled world have left their brains in the mud at some point. Never mind their souls, those seem to have never even factored to the equation to begin with. Long corrupted by their shadows those have been. Human stupidity never seizes to amaze.

So basically, Mary Grey's mother was Henry VIII's niece because she was the daughter of his sister, Mary Tudor, and one of her older sisters, Lady Jane Grey, was Henry's great-niece and wife who was executed. Why am I even shocked that Henry wed his own great-niece (Jane)? Its what the rotals gave always done, right up to the late Queen Elizabeth II, whose husband, Prince Phillip, was her cousin, I believe, from her mother's side of the family.

Henry VIII did not marry his great neice Jane Grey. Jane was only around 9 or 10 when Henry died. Jane was married at 16ish to Lord Guildford Dudley who were both executed on the orders of Queen Mary I. Elizabeth II and Prince Philip were related but on her fathers side of the family. They were 3rd cousins in the British Royal Family being both great great grandchildren of Queen Victoria they were also 2nd cousins once removed in the Danish Royal family.
