Linklater’s colorful profile is spectacular! These recent and fresh takes on noir and neo noir from Fincher’s Hitman to Sugar and Hit Man is fascinating!

One of my favorite films of the year. I usually don’t watch trailers or look into movies so this one caught me by surprise.

Thanks for the review. It sure was hyped up. Perhaps Powell has a really good PR rep. I'm excited for Acolyte starting today! Whee!!! 🤩

Chris, you have to see 'The color of Evil: Red'. It's not a happy story - I was really depressed at the end to be honest - but it's on Netflix (just came on) and high up in the recommendations for a reason. It's incredibly well written with rich characters. But, it's hard to watch. Cheers and thank you again for being the best movie reviewer on Netflix.

Cheers for the review… here’s a hidden “jem” for you. Look for this Indonesian film called “monster”. It’s got no dialogue, however, you don’t need to understand anything said. Give it ten minutes and you’ll be hooked. A great film… at first I thought WTF is going on, however, after ten minutes it’s WOW 👍👍👍

3.5 couches is wild to me lol. 4.5/5 couches for me. Probably my biggest departure from one of your reviews to date. All good though! I always meant to ask before but what are the sayings that you put under your name at the beginning of your videos, Chris?

I'm glad you loved the movie!! The quotes are from movies/series... sometimes they may loosely relate to the review, other times they are just something that makes me chuckle. 😁😁

Thanks! It's certainly not perfect, and I'm not sure it lives up to all the hype it was receiving from festivals, but it is still fun and funny... especially with one scene that literally had me cackle!

My review Background - A college professor poses as fake hitman to help police catch unsuspecting people trying to get somebody killed. When he falls for a married woman trying to get rid of her abusive husband it sets of a sequence of events where he ends up being a prime suspect of a murder he did not commit. Likes - Well the plot is unique as you could sense from the background. I also thought the 2 leads were good. I mean they fit the roles and there was chemistry between them. Dislikes - The Hitman suffers from very poor execution. This movie tries to be cool and smart when it had to be more convincing and funny. Instead of developing the plot and building the narrative the Hitman seems to trying to the prove the audience how clever it is. The result is that even with very unique ideas and some really good plot twists Hitman fails to engage the audience because the plot is just terribly under developed. The movie uses a lot of narrative in the first part which takes away a lot of fun from the set up. But even when the real plot begins the movie neither has the tone or drama to make the narrative interesting. Its very ordinarily written lacking any imagination or substance. This movie deserved a much better screenplay than it got because honestly it had a good unique story and a cast which seemed which seemed very equal to the task of pulling this off. And by cast I mean the entire cast not just the leads. Its an relatively unknown cast but they really impress with their timing in very underdeveloped or maybe sloppy narrative. I really do not know if there was lack of budget or lack of experience behind the camera but the Hitman just fails to utilize any of its strength. They could have made this into either a gripping crime drama or an out and out comedy. That shows how smart the plot was. But this ends up as a dumb movie with a very underdeveloped narrative and clear lack of tone and focus. I give this a 5.

Agree, massively overhyped. I might have enjoyed it without all the buzz it has received.
