The cut off casing could be somebody starting to make "trench art". Combat isn't all fighting. There's lots of downtime with almost nothing to do. For many, many, years military folks have made art out of what they have at hand. Brass shell casings are soft and easy to engrave or cut into different items. Wood, especially pine, is easy to carve. Etc. Glad you got out to do some detecting with EE!

Great location HH! It must be very rewarding to find these artefacts in areas that were the location of those battles so long ago now. It also must bring about a sense of awe to be walking the same ground where so many men fought and died for their country, regardless of whose side they were on. Finding personal items of a soldier who was there at the time, like that watch dial, must also give you pause for thought, and a sense of some sadness to think the owner of that object may not have survived. You and EE never disappoint us. Cheers until the next adventure, from Australia 🇦🇺 !

Some nice interesting finds, especially the watch face. That is such a personal item to find on a battlefield. But the shrapnel pieces are the most sobering items. Imagine seeing such large pieces of iron and steel, shattering everything they touched, and no safe place to hide. It must have been truly terrifying to be at the receiving end of that onslaught. Thank you guys for sharing such locations with us. Cheers to you both! Stay Well!

All the fortifications on the Atlantic are fun and exciting especially when you discover a deep cave complex or some war relic left behind in a bunker. However, seeing the Eastern Front, the flat terrain, German-turned-Soviet positions, and the "tons" of shell casings and artillery shell fragments give strong witness to the human cost of war

Am watching this with double vision. My medication is messing with me tonight. Love it when you find even the smallest things. They can tell so much as to what happened at this location. If the German tanks were more reliable, the Russians would have never gotten the momentum in the war. The Germans weren’t prepared to fight a winter war and while the German tanks were technically advanced, their reliability on the battlefield and being able to be quickly repaired in the field was there down fall. I would love to see more from this area. You and Eagle Eyes both armed with metal detectors to see who can find the most remarkable piece of history on this battlefield. If Eagle Eyes wins , you have to take him to his favorite restaurant and if History Hunter wins, Eagle Eyes has to wash the camper van lol. Get out there and have fun and show us the history.
