The immersion of VR is insane. It's not perfect, and it's not how I'd want to play every game, but it's such an exciting bit of tech, I hope it keeps getting funded and improved over the next decade.

Could've done with a control update for PC. Allow grab, drag and interaction for both hands.Add a little roomscale so you don't have to keep recentering. Put run on the thumbstick.
@SolaScientia2 жыл бұрын
Roomscale is one of the biggest requests I saw on IO's tweet about the update. Along with them fixing some issues with the elusive arcade.
@id-null2 жыл бұрын
roomscale should def be added 100% and probably wouldn't even be that hard, it already has full upper body ik rigging. Allowing grabbing with both hands would be nice but i feel like that'd be more work than they're willing to put into it. They would likely only let you hold one thing at a time still as that's just how the normal game works- and is balanced around. Imo it's much closer to a good port than people are letting on- its so painfully close to being good! I really hope they keep improving it because hitman gameplay lends itself so well to vr. oh also i prefer sprint being a button. Excessive stick clicking has already caused drift in TWO controllers so id rather have to press my sticks in as occasionally as possible lmao. They should really just make ALL of the vr controls rebindable.

Shame they seem to have basically ported the PSVR version straight over. I'm crossing my fingers for Intel's Xess thing (if that's how they're spelling it) since that should enable considerably sharper visuals, & maybe even ray traced reflections in VR once they put that in. No telling how long it'll take them to get that stuff done, but I really hope they keep working to improve this (including controls) or it'd be a huge missed opportunity.
@id-null2 жыл бұрын
its likely due to the fact that sony funded the psvr version, and the improvements for the pc version were funded internally.. and as a free update? yea they probably diddnt put much time or money into it sadly. I still think it can be tons of fun though once you get used to it. Also im sure modders will find a way to turn off the forced resolution downscaling soon enough, thats the main thing holding the visuals back.

@@id-null They are releasing it on Steam at well for a full $60 price tag, like for a new game. On other platforms, the game was on sale multiple times for as low as $30. If the VR was good, it would attract a lot of Steam players who had been waiting patiently for the game. Instead, they messed up and the game now has a bunch of negative reviews on Steam. Really shouldn’t have half-assed the VR if they wanted to re-sell the game at full retail price on Steam.
@id-null2 жыл бұрын
@@Aliens1337 Oh I totally agree. Huge missed opportunity on their part. But most AAA studios have people in charge that want to ship products with minimal budget. Especially when you consider the vr playerbase compared to non-vr playerbase on steam is like a droplet in a lake, unfortunately we were not their target demographic. Their target demographic was steam users who refused to support epic games, but they also messed that up- like you said, by not having a launch sale, when literally at the time of release, you could get the game half off on other platforms. Though again- they've made likely 85% of sales they would have initially made anyways from consoles, and forcing many people who prefer steam to buy through epic instead, so their profits from the steam release were likely not as important as if it were an actual new game release. I wish we lived in a world where passion and artistic intent came first, but unfortunately money makes the world go round. I will still give props to the devs for doing what they can and delivering something that imo, is quite fun to play despite it's issues, when they likely had almost no budget to expand upon their already very limited psvr base version.

The way this tech has evolved, it wouldn't be a stretch to imagine that we'd get full RTX reflection capable VR sets in a decade. That would be amazing! But yeah, even a pixel-ly reflection would be better than none, the lack really messes with the immersion here.

I tried this and wasn't really enjoying it. The controls are too much of a step back in time. Even VR mods these days do a better job of VRifying games than what we're seeing here. ☹️
@id-null2 жыл бұрын
i had this opinion too... at first. But the more I played and got used to its controls the more i enjoyed it and understood why they did what they did, with the limitations they had. There is a STUPID amount the tutorial doesn't tell you that makes the game feel so much better once you learn. (you can open doors with hands, you can lightly hold the trigger for a laser sight for precision shooting, you have to hold trigger while holding a melee weapon for it to be considered using the actual weapon, which i see a lot of people don't even realize because the game never tells you.) totally fair if you'd be unable to get passed its awkward junkiness at times and its lack of roomscale, but I recommend giving it another shot and playing around with its systems to get a good feel for things. Next think you know you'll be quickly throwing, stabbing, shooting and punching almost every time, and you find yourself able to be even MORE efficient than you can be in flat screen mode.

I'm guessing they implemented a forward renderer for when VR is active, so a lot of screen space effects just won't work. Screen space reflections especially (and you wouldn't see 47 in a screen space reflection in VR because you're in first person and thus not on screen). Planar reflections are possible in a forward renderer but they are EXTREMELY expensive in VR, because you have to render the scene FOUR times (twice for each eye) instead of just two. And I don't know how IOI's engine works, but in Unreal just having the engine setting that enables planar reflections turned on increases the shader cost by 15% for every material in the game, so even in scenes where you're not using planar reflections rendering is more expensive. It's likely IOI disabled the shader calls that are necessary for planar reflections altogether in their forward renderer.

I know this is meant to show the PC VR and such, but I couldn't help but spend most of the time laughing. I will say that this confirms for me that I couldn't handle VR in any form. When he got to the Chongqing level I started feeling slightly sick, which is par for the course for me with first person POV in games.
