Star Trek VI's climactic battle above Khitomer between the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC1701-A and U.S.S. Excelsior NCC 2000 against the prototype Klingon Bird of Prey that can fire while cloaked...I know it's not edited perfectly but my wrist was hurting at the time...but I wanted to share this underrated battle with fellow Trekkies.

When I heard that line, I wanted a divergent timeline in which Kirk just looks at him for a second and then says "You know, I think I finally understand you people." Cue a genuine peace etc. etc, but then we would never have this spectacular conclusion to the original series films.

I thought I was the only one who got chills when sulu said that, it was like I have to be there for my captain for my ship mates and that it meant it all to be there , to me that was a powerful scene that spoke volumes about the relationship between all of them. Hollywood has gotten it right sometime and realise that it's building relationships that makes a movie work, you saw that in lethal weapon and the last guardians of the galaxy really made that movie real showing a team with deep relationships with each other and how much it means.

What really stood out to me in this movie - was the way that Kirk was surprised by the Klingon Chancellor's motives. In the beginning, Kirk cynically views the Klingons with suspicion and distrust. Later on when the Klingon Chancellor is dying, he says, "Don't let it end like this", indicating that he did not want the peace initiative to fail. It was in stark contrast to the traditional Klingon blood oath, which was what Kirk expected. Kirk later says, "It never occurred to me that Chancellor _____ was telling telling the truth."

He can do the classics-quoting Klingon warlord or the wizened Master of the Way of the Voice with such class and skill :) A magnificent actor. Watching the Enterprise and Excelsior pound the hell out of that Bird of Prey at the end was one of the most gratifying things I remember about this movie. With their advantage of the special cloak removed, the BoP was absolutely no match for the firepower of two Federation starships. Moral of the story? New ST movies are just totally different styles of Sci Fi. Star Trek was always an intellectual show first, and was never really big on special effects. Most of the movies were done on strict budgets and the TV shows were cheesy at best. But good writing and great characters made up for the lack of dazzle. The new movies are more about dazzle than character building. Everything seems forced. Oh well, at least most of the movies and shows are on Netflix so we can still appreciate them.

Agreed, I think this is my favourite of all the films....the new ones are what they are, Star Trek for the masses.....but no amount of big budget 21st century special effects and excessive lens flare can match the overall excellent package that was put together here.
