Him being called the penguin because he has a physical disability adds such a level of sadness to the character that I absolutely love. And the fact he sees himself partially in victor because he also has a disability is such a simple detail, but it adds so much to their dynamic. It’s just such a brilliant take on the character that explains why he is the way he is, while rooting him as the underground. Yet at the same time, we know how slimy he is. It’s just so perfect

Hiring Matt Reeves was the best thing DC has done in a LONG time. This universe is everything I could’ve asked for. The writing, characterization, don’t even get me started on the camera work. It’s just on another level compared to literally every other comic portrayal. Marvel movies look like unsalted raw chicken compared to the wagyu beef that is the reeves verse.

My theory on why Batman is not mentioned is that Bruce after the events of the Batman decides he needs to put some time into being Bruce Wayne and help the people of Gotham in a way Batman never could. Where he spends his time donated money, food, supplies, etc. Where he begins to work in politics and make change from the inside with his privilege. And maybe in the Batman 2 he has spent so much time being Bruce Wayne when that films threat finally appears and the city needs Batman, he’ll be rusty but not only that he for once in his life feels fear because he realizes the people of Gotham need Bruce Wayne.

Sounds kinda silly. There’s no reason he would stop being Batman to focus on Bruce Wayne. That would defeat the whole purpose of the movie. He’s not supposed to reject Batman and embrace Bruce Wayne. I love how Gotham looks *horrible* in this series. There's a temptation to make urban dystopias have a grandeur or be beautiful, as a contrast for the horrific events that take place there. This show masterfully avoids that, to the point where I wouldn't even want to visit Gotham. This show gives Gotham a grungy, awfulness that almost elevates it to an actual character.

I feel they didn't quite do the show justice and made it feel like a bit like generic gangster story. I think the two things that stand out to me most from the two episodes that I've seen 1) the episodes feel like, ya know, EPISODES. so much streaming TV feels like a movie that's way too long that arbitrarily stops every 40-60 minutes so that you stay subscribed to the service for longer, Penguin feels like a TV show 2) i've loved so far that while The Batman would alternate between showing Gotham in all its grime on the street Penguin has basically only depicted the grime or luxury that's so excessive that it feels gross just by existing in comparison to the amount of poverty we see. It makes it all feel so much more all encompassing and perfectly communicates why Oz would end up how he is, he hasn't gotten to see the city from above bathed in sunlight the way Batman does, he can't love it in that way because it's an experience that's entirely antithetical to everything hes ever known Also as far as not mentioning Batman goes im pretty sure it was a studio mandate, the live action TV rights to Batman are a complete mess and Disney might actually own them so im guessing it was just them being safe not to bring down the wrath of the mouse

Hoping Vic is surviving, but guess his chances are slim, but defiantly think the penguin is dying on the ending episode and sofie might take power and that leads to the upcoming Batman movie

As a lifelong DC fan, I am so damn happy that we finally have a very good live action Batman universe, it’s not going sequel by sequel with villain by villain with those being made specifically for that one movie, and not talking about past or future characters or villains in general. Here in this universe, everyone has a good character with a chance to shine a light on them which creates attention to them and giving people a chance to get to know who they are. Even though we do have one Batman movie in the Matt Reeves universe, it set up a lot of very good characters and it told a very good main story, along with telling small stories here and there to establish what else is going on in Gotham City with many particular characters. Then to make things even more great, they brought out this Penguin series, and tell us Oz’s side of the story in Gotham City, and introduced a lot of more interesting characters and made me and many other people/fans care about them and the things that they were doing in the story. I never thought that I would have cared for one of Batman’s C list or D list villains in Sofia Falcone, but this series did that to me and I cared about her and what she was going to do next. The main storytellers in Hollywood, Video Game Industry and Comic Book Industry better take notes because…….. THIS IS WHAT WE AS LONG TIME DC, MARVEL OR VIDEO GAME FANS WANT, GREAT CONSISTENT STORYTELLING WITH GREAT CHARACTERS, it shouldn’t be that difficult for them to understand that, but instead they will still continue to call us Anti-woke, Right Wing, Incel, Nazis, just because we want good storytelling like the Matt Reeves Batman Universe.
