Andrew Rice has done some work on his own in terms of wind effect on iron shots. His working theory for into the wind is every 10 mph is make the shot play 10 yards longer per 100 yards. Example: 20 mph wind on a 150 yard shot makes it play 30 yards longer.

Who put a thumbs down for this video. This is so interesting this video and a massive eye opener. I play at a course that is windy everyday right on the ocean and it blows 20-30 km and more and I do always tee it down but will be playing today and will try the opposite. Thanks for this always putting out quality content. If you ever get a chance to come to Western Australia play at the cut golf course.

Yes! can't wait to see the irons/wedges and also the addition of some either high spinning or low spinning golf balls and that whole package together with wind!! Also, really can't wait to see the elevation series. I live in Northern California, where there are a TON of golf courses with elevation changes up and down (around 60-70% of the courses I play) and even more difficult to choose a club with addition of wind to the elevation change. LOVE THE CHANNEL (knowledge is power) Thanks, Nate Kyle

With all due respect...the data is truly flawed. Why do I say that? I challenge Matt..nay any good golfer, to maintain a such a well-balanced body posture with 20 mph headwind on a tee box swinging at such speed (ie 120+ club head speed & 170+ ball speed). Hence, the resulting data is far better than in reality. All that aside, the information provided, at its root, is priceless. Outstanding insight for us golfers in what to do and not to do. TXG simply rocks!

So... driver off the deck vs 3 wood vs (stinger version of some other club) into the wind would expect what? LOVE ALL THESE VIDEOS!
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
Likely a player would be able to get the strike higher on the face with a 3 wood and square the face easier leading to lower spin and better performance through the wind. Any shot, even something like a lower stinger is going to perform worse into the wind if the spin gets high.

@jamesjones-sx4js2 жыл бұрын
This is very interesting. I typically tee it lower into 20mph wind and can get around 300. If I tee it normal or higher, then my spin gets out of control. I was just fitted by TM with the lagolf shaft with an avg of 2100 rpm.
@kevinwiessner29516 жыл бұрын
Keep it up guys. Love hearing what you have to share. Made a huge impact on my driver choice last year and how I see that fitting process. Ended up moving from a very low spin head to a very stable one and was a great improvement for me. With that in mind, I am a bit confused about the effect sidespin has in combination with the tee it high with low backspin into the wind. Matt’s ball looked really stable on the low spin shots he hit and seems to be counter intuitive...maybe it was just the comparison from the terrible results from the low face strike? Would love to hear your input!
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
Partly that some of the higher tee shots were just better swings, and had less exaggerated spin axis tilt
@kevinwiessner29516 жыл бұрын

Great vid! With the irons and wedges. Are you going to vary the swing speed? From what I've heard or have seen if you want to keep the ball flight down it helps to swing a tad bit slower. Can't remember if you've touched on that in a previous video.

What about teeing the driver high but low launch i.e. change angle of attack and keep strike higher on face? Also can you do a comparison of driving iron into wind?
@somemass4726 жыл бұрын
Please do more of these tests! Question: 2 curved shots, both with same face/path/aoa, but with different strike points (low on face and high on face). Which one goes more offline into the wind? Is the "backspin stabilization" still as powerful? Related: was the wider dispersion with the low tee just due to more inconsistent face delivery?
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
the lower spin shot will curve more, and yes worse dispersion with the low tee was due to inconsistent striking and face delivery
@russellfothergill90826 жыл бұрын

Is GC Quad able to calculate the amount of spin added to the ball during flight while going into the wind? I understand that it is able to show the spin off the face of the club but a ball that is higher in the air for longer will spin more (hence ballooning ball flights). Just curious if GC Quad is able to effectively measure the amount of spin added to the ball instead of just measuring the loss of ball speed. Thanks and love the videos.

What would happen if you teed it low downwind? Would the extra spin keep it in the air longer?

Out of pure curiosity, what about teeing lower downwind? If that tends to spin it up the face a little, will it float enough to compare well to a high-launch/low-spin tee shot?

Well, that vid just destroyed most of the things I do playing in the wind, defo staying in the Bar next time it's blowing a hooley! One thing I notice occasionally and never understand why it happens when playing with the wind behind, is sometimes the wind seems to push the Ball down rather than launching skywards. Is that a spin tilt issue at work?
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
That can be the case if you don't have enough spin on the ball, spin keeps it in the air so the wind has more time to push it forward.

To keep ball down into the wind just swing with less speed tee it low and because of the slower swing speed the ball will not have as much backspin there for the wind will not eat it up as much and you will have a more Penetrating ball flight
