In fact, finding a functional cure for the HIV virus is not as difficult a task as exaggerated. But the scientific and economic community is prolonging this process by overemphasizing unnecessary details. For example, they have been investigating even the slightest side effect of a functional treatment for years. However, the one-time side effects of any functional treatment are not that important compared to the short and long-term risks of daily antiretroviral therapy.
@proudman6651

What do you mean by functional cure? How is it possible the way you see it?
@Gunes-xq7mu
@Gunes-xq7mu Жыл бұрын
Functional therapy is a form of treatment in which the patient continues to suppress the virus for life without ART with a one-time treatment. The virus is not completely eliminated from the body. But his immune system manages to silence him all the time. Evidence that functional therapy is possible comes from elite controllers, people with the CCR5 mutation, patients treated with stem cell transplants, and the most recently published OHSU study.
@harvey1965
@harvey1965 Жыл бұрын
I'm sorry mate ... you've got your facts around the wrong way. A 'functional cure' for HIV has been explored, researched & sought for the last 30 years and has been completely allusive due to the manner in which HIV hides from the immune system in substantial 'reservoirs' of virus in multiple areas of the body. The virus reappears from these 'hidden reservoirs' within 21 days of going off ART. That's been the destroyer of attempted cures - the inability to have those reservoirs of virus made 'visible' and then eliminated. This therapy is 'potentially' a game changer.

@@proudman6651dude….. see people like you are the exact reason why diseases can’t get cured. You people act soooo simple. For DECADES it’s been stated stem cells are a direct cure route to ending the virus as well as many other sicknesses. That has been blasted for years yet people don’t go hard behind it. Heck even scientific use has been overly hindered in the US

Raif - great interview. He was a little obscure (understandably - the research is ongoing) about the viral load after treatment. The question which immediately comes to mind would be: do we still have a viral load in our blood which could be a source of infection for our others who come into contact with our blood & semen? I've been on 3 regimens over 17 years now. I've never had a combo therapy fail or make me feel unwell; they've all been brilliant - I change combinations simply because the newer drug combinations become 'less' (not toxic) demanding & stressful long term on the body's organs with less long term side effects. Currently I'm on Tivicay & Descovy (3 drugs in 2 pills) about to go to Dovato (1 pill with 2 drugs). ART is highly effective with minimal (in my case zero) side effects - still, it's a daily reliance on a drug - a functional cure would be bloody marvellous! As a side note, I know a woman who had stage 4 lung cancer 6 years ago, metastasised to liver & kidneys - she refused traditional 'chemotherapy' was effectively weeks away from death. She was given a 'personalised' immunotherapy over a few weeks and today is FREE of cancer and considered completely cured AND that is why THIS treatment is so promising. I remember hearing about the first truly effective ART's in 1997 .... after hundreds of us had died horrible, horrible deaths - 1997 was an exciting year for HIV+ folk - THIS reminds me of that time again. They still have a distance to go to demonstrate long term efficacy and safety, however this truly sounds like a game changer! Finger's crossed!!
@RaifDerrazi

Hey thank you! Yes, i'm in the same boat switching meds as newer 'less toxic' meds come out. I would also like to switch to Descovy (also curious if Biktarvy has been making my weight gain a bigger issue). That's quite the story of the woman with cancer...i truly believe amazing discovers in medicine are coming soon not just for HIV.
@harvey1965
@harvey1965 Жыл бұрын
@@RaifDerrazi Hey Raif ... Biktarvy has 3 ingredients (bictegravir, emtricitabine, and tenofovir alafenamide) ... whereas Descovy has 2 of the above ingredients (emtricitabine, and tenofovir alafenamide) so you'd have to take one additional tablet 'Tivicay' which has one active ingredient (dolutegravir) ... so you'd be going from a 1 pill per day regimen to a 2 pills per day regimen - which is not an issue. Dolutegravir is also associated with slight weight gain - though not significant. I actually suspect a lot of ART drugs have weight gain challenges. I'm changing to Dovato, a relatively new 2 drugs in 1 pill combo. No longer is a 3 drug combo required with this new ART - which is mind blowing! One less compound / chemical for the body to deal with is in my mind always a good thing. Dovato's active compounds are Dolutegravir & Lamivudine ... I'm yet to start, but I'm really eager to drop the Descoy which is a newer & different form of the old Truvada. Truvada was, long term, unfriendly to the kidneys. Descovy, is a similar, yet reconfigured compound to Truvada, yet is metabolised differently and thus more kidney friendly. Have a look into Dovato - it's only 2 compounds (instead of 3) thus less chemicals for the body to deal with long term. And - hey, don't worry about the weight too much, you're doing really well mate!

These are not false hopes. It's scientifically proven that HIV can be functionally treated. Dear Galvin, he reports in a very cautious and modest language about a clinical trial they did for functional therapy. Even if this trial fails, it's progress. A cure is not found overnight. It makes more sense to support such news than to oppose it.

AGT103-T is a functional HIV therapy candidate. It has proven to be safe by passing the 1st phase of clinical trials and besides, it has shown promising by providing partial recovery in patients. It will be put into phase 2 trials to see its effectiveness at the beginning of 2024. After the 2nd stage we will see the real data.

You also may want to research EBT-101. EBT-101 was developed by Excision BioTherapeutics and Dr. Kamel Khalili at Temple University (located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania). EBT-101, is a CRISPR-based, gene-editing, single administered therapy, designed to cut and remove HIV DNA out of human cells. This CRISPR-based, single administered therapy is a potential gene editing treatment employs an adeno-associated virus to deliver CRISPR-CAS9 nucleases and dual guide RNAs targeting three sites within the HIV genome that tell the enzymes where to cut.

What's beatin you up buddy? you gotta hold onto hope that there will be a cure. And have faith you will be okay. Ypu aren't alone in this millions of people are living with HIV and holding onto hope. People assume that a cure won't be profitable for a govermwnt or private comoany but that is wrong even if they cured everyone they would have profited much more than they spent making and reseaeching said medicine. Plus a cure doesn't mean the disease itswlf went away. People will stoll get it then guess what? they will go buy the cure. The person is saved and the comoany still makes continuous money to further research and or put into said medicine.

Raif, I really hope you read this comment. Jeff’s background is clearly in information technology. HTTP protocol was open source and led to the internet. If this man isn’t allowing any components of his technology to be open source, it won’t be validated or used to the benefit of humanity. Could you perhaps do an interview with a virologist to verify what this actually means? My guess is that this is all intellectual property which isn’t fully disclosed. The close association with venture capital is concerning.

The efficacy of this new medical process will be easily determined by those that have gone through it and stop meds have improved health indications. But it seems without the ability to determine if hidden reservoirs are also eliminated that the opportunity to determine that will be after someone having had this procedure is a study cadaver. Another instance that we will not totally understand a situation until after someone's "natural" death is still with us. The up point of this situation is that by examining those after death can give us a better understanding about the human body and what parts of the human body or how the body functions need additional study to overcome incomplete eradication. But it is a start, seems to be plausible and will give us additional need to develop additional treatments for illnesses.

Functional therapy does not aim to completely destroy viral reservoirs. In functional therapy, viral reservoirs remain in place. The purpose of AGT103-T is to suppress the virus by modifying CD4 T cells. The virus remains in the body, but cannot harm the person because it cannot infect T cells.

I have to say, as an investor, my logical mind tells me that we may not find a cure for this as soon as we think. The simple math involves the cost of tablets and the number of people living normally on them. I don't see any point for big players to step in and push this forward. We know that there is a population of Europeans totally immune; we know that there are some who are resistant or "half immune" due to heritage. We also know that there are two Asian girls who were born immune as they are designer babies. We need to get religion out of it and address ethics as to emphasize a new generation immune, regardless of how they got there. If they are all natural blonds with perfect teeth, well, good for them. This presentation is not telling us anything, really. Poz folks want to be un-poz. Until someone invents a method to achieve that on a large scale, the rest is just noise.

Which is why I don’t understand why it’s no cure considering we know of the euro population with this. Surely someone took blood and studied this for over a decade? I mean supposedly they still did medicine and research on Henrietta Lacks blood for decades. Wonder has the uploader of this video touched on this subject

Are you talking about the gene mutation they used to cure the Berlin Patient?
@Gunes-xq7mu
@Gunes-xq7mu Жыл бұрын
Yes. There are people with mutations against the virus and there are people who can suppress the virus on their own. This shows that the virus can be suppressed when the right intervention is made to the immune system.

Scientists have many strategies at their disposal that can block HIV and make cells immune to HIV. But testing these strategies and bringing them to market will take many years. By then we would be dead from diseases caused by HIV or the side effects of ART. The next generation will probably see the cure.

That's like saying the cure for polio or teburculosis was for not and that companies lost money. This is not the case specificaply TB is not gone from the world and many people still have and or get it with a cure easily accessible. So said companies are still making good peofit making it good for business. Curing a disease does not irradicate it from earth people will still contract HIV so they will always have patients.Even so do you know how many diseases people can get with no cure still? If they Cured HIV there is so much room to still make profit off of sick people or people suffering with a chronic illness.

Be careful with this video! Nothing has been published (yet) and company owners shouldn't be making money based on our hopes.
