Session IX - Prospects for Peace in Israel and Palestine
The recent Hamas’s attack on Israel has raised growing regional and international concerns regarding a possible peaceful solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict. The conflict has also brought new discussions to restarting the peace process between Israelis and Palestinians, which has been passive for years. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict dates back to the end of the nineteenth century when the United Nations adopted the Resolution 181, known as the Partition Plan, which sought to divide the British Mandate of Palestine into Arab and Jewish states. On May 14, 1948, the State of Israel was created, triggering the first Arab Israeli War. The following day, on May 15, 1948, the first day of Israel independence, Arab armies invaded Israel. Since that time, all attempts to end the conflict result in failure. America's diplomatic approach to the conflict has been perceived by many as partial. Some people believe that Palestinians are not willing to make peace with Israel and others blame Israel for being the cause of the endless conflict.
