I usually run mine with the 13 round magazine, makes it about the same size grip as a P2000, which has also become a regular in my carry rotation. These may be older designs by today's standards, but I still love hammer fired guns for ccw, the ergonomics are great, the recoil impulse is great, you really can't ask for more, the micro compacts like the shield plus and p365 are all the rage these days but I love the fact I can slap a 20 round full size magazine in here and it works with the larger guns, it's a complete system IMO. Great video as always.

@@5jjtOne, HKs will hardly ever need any kind of parts replacements. Second, taking apart HKs is not hard at all. I used to think anything other than Glock was complicated. But after a simple KZbin video I fully disassembled my USP40 and put it back together with absolutely no issues. It’s not hard at all and it’s not required to be performed often. Most people never fully disassemble their guns ever anyway.

@@5jjt I disagree... You can find EVERY single part of a P30SK, and I mean all the way down to the last pin and small spring. Then, completely taking down a P30SK is not more complicated than a full takedown of any other handgun I've seen out there. You only need a couple of punches, a plastic mallet, and some patience. There are a couple of videos on the net that show the complete takedown of the P30 family and they're extremely easy to follow. THAT SAID. It's very unlikely that you need to do a complete takedown of a handgun in normal conditions. Normal care and cleaning only require field stripping (which is very easy) and ye olde common sense caring. There are a couple of things that would prevent me from buying this gun though: 1- It's expensive for its class 2- It's very difficult to find (even some online stores have it back ordered for long periods) Setting that aside, this is a purchase you don't usually regret.

I call it my 11 round revolver. Never liked any semi auto till I got my hands on one of these. Hammer fired with a striker fire pull. But second strike capable. You can put your thumb over the hammer when holstering, the trigger is much safer and has a well defined wall. Slide release is the most accessible I know of and the mag release anyone can reach. No fumbling for it. I use my trigger finger so you don't even move the pistol from the firing position. I have a p30L with factory night sights, I like the luminescent better. The moon light makes them glow.
@5jjt

I've never saw much light in putting your thumb over the hammer while holstering, as if that's the only thing that is paid attention to while holstering. The way I see it, when holstering, visual checking of the inside of the holster, the surrounding clothing, and leaning backwards should always take place no matter what kind of pistol one uses.

Exactly how I see it - I've shot revolvers for years so I'm very comfortable shooting DA. The long trigger pull is very smooth. Once it switches over to SA firing, I treat it like a Beretta M9/92: Pull the trigger slop out to the rear, pull through to fire. Very comfortable when shooting with 124gn ammo Ergonomics are great. Slide release is easy to manipulate, the decocker is in a good position for either hand, and I can eject the magazine with the thumb or middle finger. I'm a big believer in the paddle magazine releases.
@djYuz

@@xx8836 Agreed. Definitely not a striker-like pull - Even for a hammer fire, I'd call this a "service weapon" trigger, definitely not a match or target trigger. When accepted for what it is and the role it's supposed to play, it can be fired very well. But most people will probably prefer the VP9 for this reason.

Enjoyed this video. Love both my V1 LEM P 30 sk and my VP9 sk. I’ve been carrying striker fired pistols since 1989 . I’m also left handed so for me the LEM works great and feels like a striker fired pistol with the added safety of a hammer. The new 12 round flat base plate and 15 round extended mags from HK are nice too.

Really enjoyed the review. I have the HK P2000sk LEM in 40S&W. I installed the Gray Guns Short Reset Kit, and it made a positive improvement in my speed, as I was used to the short reset of Glocks. If you have a Glock and like a short reset, I highly recommend the 8lb connector. It's slightly heavier than the regular connector, but it has a more defined wall and a shorter break with less overtravel and a very short reset. If you don't like the trigger to be heavier, you can polish the trigger and/or do other things if you want to reduce the trigger pull to be more like a real Single Action though. I just prefer 8lbs for carry, because it's safer and at 8lbs it doesn't mess with my accuracy or speed at all. I'm really not a fan of the standard connector, the minus connectors or any of the lighter aftermarket connectors. I really never liked any triggers with a rolling break like that. I prefer Single Action triggers, but I think triggers like on the P265 and P320 are just too light for carry without a manual safety (and I'm not a fan of manual safeties). I know it's a striker fired gun, but it definitely has a SAO type trigger (and action, because it simple releases the already fully cocked striker).

I carry a P2000, for similar reasons to what you describe here. I used to carry a p365 because I liked how small and concealable it was, and its size wasn't really an issue for me to grip because I have small hands. I liked the 365, but after about 400 rounds some of the roll pins had moved and I had to recenter them, and it looked as worn my VP9 that, at the time, had probably closer to 2500 rounds. Not to say that I'd call my VP9 "worn" but it seemed like an inappropriate amount of wear for 400 rounds.

I wish I knew why SIG continues to use their "Nitron" finish. It sucks. Despite it being a form of Black Nitride, their "proprietary" Nitron version is even garbage compared to most of the generic Black Nitride finishes. It not only scratches very easily compared to generic Black Nitride, but it also rusts really bad compared to the generic Black Nitride. It's always confused my why they would continue to use it. There's no way they don't know by now that it's not that great. The same goes for Ruger and their blued finishes. Their blued steel rusts faster than any other gun finish I've ever seen and it's almost impossible to keep up on maintenance to stop them from rusting. You can clean and oil them one day and then come back a week later and see rust forming. It's ridiculous and I just can't imagine a company allowing such an obvious problem to continue to destroy the quality of their products. That's especially true with SIG though, because of how much they charge for their firearms. For the cost you should get an excellent finish, because the finish is an extremely important part of any firearm.

@@joogullae3456 Get better choices. lol. Joking aside, that is a tough question. I hope the one you got was the right one or at least you're happy with it and/or got more guns by then and found one you're happy with. I'm skinny and can't conceal a p365 without a sweater on... so the P30 and P2000 would be out of the question. They're massive compared to the other two and still only have the same capacity. As much as I love the P30SK and the P2000SK I don't really consider them to be a great CCW's, because they're so large. The P30SK is also 0.1" thicker than the P2000SK too. The P2000SK isn't any thicker than a Glock (which isn't too thick)... but it has a longer grip and doesn't increase capacity. The P30SK is the same length/capacity too. Between the Hellcat and the P365 I could take either one... but the P365 SAS isn't for everyone. Many people have a terrible hard time learning to use the SAS sights. That's why I would recommend the Hellcat out of the 4 options. It's more snappy than the P365, but it's a good gun and has 11rd capacity. I really do like the P365 more though and if got to test the SAS sights and liked them, I would probably choose the P365 SAS over the Hellcat. I just don't have experience behind the P365 SAS or that type of sight/optic. I like the idea behind the SAS with is being smoother and less likely to snag... but it also makes you need a tool of some kind to field strip it. They're All excellent guns though and there's no doubt that the P30SK and P2000SK are high quality guns with a better kind of action for self defense. (I think the DA/SA action is the best type of action for CCW. It just sucks there aren't many/any small, concealable DA/SA handguns. Anyways, I know it's a year old comment... so I hope you're happy with whichever choice you made.

I bought a used A3, not LEM, but the trigger is well broken in and quite good. I have a VP9 that has a better trigger and i love to shoot it. But for pure carry, I've grown to prefer DA/SA over striker and i started with striker fired guns. The P30SK is a goid size for concealment and the human ebgineering of the grip on the P30 and VP9 are outstanding. I also shoot the P30Sk similarly to a bigger gun. Its that well done. Also the DA first pull does afford you an extra layer of safety IMO. With the focus on lighter crisper first pull on carry guns DA affords you an extra safety buffer and makes accidental discharges a bit less likely. Ultimately the best safety is between your ears, but i like DA. Especially Hk's, which is quite smooth and not too heavy at 8 lbs give or take. The difference betwee DA and SA isn't as stark as the Beretta 92's with a really heavy (yet smooth) and a really light hair SA. It actually took me a while to learn it. But I digress, I feel the designers of the P30 really took time to think about what a user really needs in a carry gun when they designed it. It is excellent for that purpose IMO, it is comfortable to carry and it shoots like a bigger gun. I shot my friend's P365 and he agrees the P30 is a tack driver.

I love the P30 series. People say the trigger sucks but I don't see it, its very consistent and one of my favorite triggers of all the pistols iv owned. My only critique of my SK is the weight but its really not that bad and in my opinion is a fair trade for the durability and reliability of this pistol, I also think the weight contributes to the lack of recoil versus what you would get with most subcompacts. The ergonomics is also 2nd to none, this is 100% the most comfortable pistol I have ever shot

I think the trigger sucks. The first time I ever shot one I literally couldn't pull the trigger to fire it. I had to reposition my finger. Having long fingers, I couldn't pull that much weight that far back. The first 75% of the trigger was easy, but then getting it to break so far back was not. I've heard the LEM triggers are supposed to be a lot better... but I've never tried one and I'm not sure if they lighten the Doble Action pull or not. I've watched videos about them, but I don't really recall much from them at all. (Edit: I just learned that the V1's and V2's have LEM triggers that are a lot lighter. The one I tried was probably a V3).

Really? The grip is barely shorter (and only holds 10rds) and the entire gun is noticeably thicker. It even weight more than a Glock 19. I'm skinny and can't carry a P365 without wearing a sweater/hoodie... and if I had to choose between the P30SK or the G19, I'd probably pick the G19. The back corner of the grip where it's most important for printing is in almost the identical place on both guns (if you compare them on handgun hero). The magazine on the G19 does stick out the bottom a little bit more... but the overall thinness of the G19 makes more of a difference in my opinion. I'm sure it's not the same for everyone and there are many different ways/places to carry a gun... but I think the P30SK is a very large gun. As much as I love the model (it's my favorite HK model), I don't think I could ever carry one, because they're so large/thick.

Always wondered what the point would be to own a P30 that's not DA/SA. There are countless other good reliable guns out there with better triggers. (That are also smaller and lighter with the better capacity). If I'm not mistaken, the P30 grip is the same length as the G17 grip, but only holds 15rds with the flush magazines. I believe you can buy upgrades for the 15rd magazines though to increase them to 17rds without increasing the length.

If you don't mind me asking, which SAO models do you carry? I prefer DA/SA as a carry option, but most of my favorite CCW guns are either striker fired or SAO. I like the P320 and P365 models, but they're not my favorite guns though, because they're like SAO, but without a safety. They recently lost a lawsuit (their first loss in court), because the triggers are so light and they don't have a safety. It was a complete BS ruling and I hope they appeal it... because it makes gun companies responsible for the actions of their customers... and that's Never right. No person (or company) should ever be responsible for the actions of another. If a person pulls the trigger on a gun, then he is responsible for what happens. If that gun happens to be pointed at a person or thing that's not meant to be killed or destroyed, then ONLY he is responsible for any death or damage that occurs from his negligence. There's no reason a gun company should ever have to worry about being sued, because of that. That's also how Jennings went our of business. A man took the magazine out of his gun, pointed it at his daughter and then pulled the trigger, killing her. He then sued the company for not having a magazine disconnect safety, which is something that MOST guns don't have. It was complete BS. The father is the ONLY person responsible. It was his ignorance and negligence that caused his daughters death. Like most people though (human nature), he wanted to push the blame on someone else. Like, what kind of fool points a gun at a child and pulls the trigger? (whether it's believed to be loaded or unloaded).

You don't think the trigger is too heavy? I failed to pull the trigger on one the first time. I wasn't expecting it to be so heavy, so long and to break so far back. The first 80% of the trigger pull wasn't too hard... but then bringing it all the way back got harder and harder. I had to reposition my finger on the trigger after that and got it to work, but I was still surprised at how hard and long the trigger pull was. It definitely got a lot lighter after shooting 1000rds through it, but it's still a long, heavy trigger.

My problem is with the striker fired weapons at 20 yds. or greater, I'm all over the paper. Sure I could hit center mass. But I'm looking for tight enough groupings, that I don't have to be worried about non combatants. I found I can only get that with 1911's or 2011's. Maybe it's the break, or lack, on some double action, striker fire weapons, or just the nature of the beast?

FWIW, I had the Compact Carry (sold it), and replaced it with the DA/SA P30SK from LTT. The Beretta is a phenomenal (if ungainly-looking) pistol. But, it is noticeably bigger and heavier than the HK, though it also holds 15 rounds flush (the P30SK now holds 12 flush). The Beretta was just more gun than I personally wanted to carry, but what an awesome firearm. I shot really well with it, hated to part with it, but I just didn’t need another safe queen or nightstand gun. Beretta had a harder DA pull than the HK, but that’s not a fair comparison as Langdon worked on the HK trigger and lightened the hammer spring, while my Beretta was the stock Compact Carry.

@@Hialeah1925 There are some very positive reviews on it. You didn't specify size so I assume you mean the compact version. Mine was the stock Compact Carry, from a dealer, and had not had the custom LTT work. I've owned my P30 SK 9mm for almost 2 years now. Approximately 1,500 rounds through it and havent had a single jam using Blazer Brass ammo. Love this gun! Has the coarsely textured grips that gives secure handling of the gun in either rain, snow, or sweaty hands. Also love the hammer-fire which is SA/DA trigger that makes it a lot more safer than the striker fire guns. Only thing I dont like on it is the chintzy sights that many gun manufactures had started putting opn guns so they can then get you to pay more to upgarde to their next level of sight that should of came on the gun in the first place ... my P30 SK WAS NOT inexpensive !

i’m a very big fan when it comes to subcompact firearms with my top two favorite subcompact firearms being the Glock 26 specifically the combat master TTI company modifications to it to make it the John Wick, two subcompact gun, and then the subcompact HKP 30 SK with the compensator attached to it to decrease the recoil a bit to make it basically the small replica version of the John Wick, one pistol. both of those firearms, especially since they are subcompact. They are very reliable. and I think that the HKP 30 SK is possibly one of the most reliable handguns. You can get your hands on. now if I were to go with my personal top three in order, it would be the combat master Glock 26 then the HKP 30 SK and then I would choose a staccato CS, which is the subcompact version of a staccato 2011 handgun.

First thing I got as soon as I was of age was USP 45. It wasn’t intended for ccw but it made me an HK fanboy. My carry rotation is primarily a P30 SK and a P2000 both in V3 variant. I very intentionally wanted both to be V3 da/sa configuration because I personally never carry striker fired anything. It’s a personal preference, but if I did I’d certainly add a VP9 SK to the rotation. People sleep on the concept of carrying da/sa and even criticize it. I’ve treated several patients who have accidentally shot themselves with their Glocks while carrying (and some while cleaning). I just prefer HK in general and da/sa for carry. Me and my father both purchased our P30 SKs at the same time and both agree with your statements.

The LEM is the safest for appendix carry. Personally I jack a round in the chamber then ease the hammer down so my first round is a long heavier traditional DA/SA first shot feel. Try using a small black light for energize the sights, works was faster than a white light flashlight. Once you own and shoot an HK the rest just seem ....Meh. Just about 2000 rounds thru mine without one malfunction.

How would this compare to a p365x or p365xl if anybody has both guns? I really like the HK because of the DA/SA action but size wise I am thinking of the p365x due to the after market support in my country and HK being a difficult company to get hold of
@sdog74
@sdog74 Жыл бұрын
Compared to a 365 or 365xl, the p30sk feels chunky and heavy. However, it is easier to conceal than you might think because of its small profile (despite its thickness, being a double-stack). It's comparable in size to the Glock 26 or CZ 2075 RAMI. It also performs like a bigger pistol. There's a large hole in the market for a p365-sized SA/DA carry piece in 9mm. The closest that I've found are the double-stack CZ 83 and the single-stack Walther PPK/S--both of which are in .380 (9x17), not 9x19. The Beretta 80 "Cheetah" series is another option in .380, with both single-stack and double-stack options. They just came out with a brand-new model. Until somebody makes a 365-sized SA/DA pistol, we're stuck with either striker-fired, or .380s, or chunkier ones like the p30sk. It may well be your best option if you want a SA/DA.

I have a 365, a 365xl, and the P30SK from Langdon with a DA/SA trigger. I carry them all. The HK is noticeably bigger and heavier but still carries well. I like that I don’t need a safety. All are excellent firearms - it’s really whether you can tolerate the extra size and weight of a hammer fired 9mm to get the benefits of a DA/SA gun. If size and weight are more important, the Sigs are great.
