I just bought an MKE AP5, fullsize MP5 clone. Measured the bolt gap, and the 0.020 blade won't go, the 0.018 slides in no problem. Overall the gun is pretty tight. Another part to inspect on a clone is the mag catch or, rather, the cut in the receiver where the mag catch rests. On a lot of MKEs, they cut the hole too large, leading to severe magazine wobble. Mine, luckly, its pretty sight, the gap is miminal, enough so the magcatch doesn't feel grindy, mags, even fully loaded, have minimal wobble but they don't rattle when you shake the gun. My only gripe is that it came with a copper extractor spring, which is true to the HK MP5, but copper springs are known for not lasting long. Some AP5 are not coming with steel extractor springs.

@@illestdomer2005 Not yet. I still haven't reached the thousand rounds mark. I'm probably around 600 rounds, mostly factory, some crummy commercial reloads (I experienced one ruptured case due to the bad quality of the brass) and some handloads made by myself. I'm probably gonna replace those parts as soon as I start experiencing too many malfunctions.

@@Xerxes1688 glad to hear it’s still working well for you even if the factory parts aren’t up to par. I ordered an AP5-P from Atlantic and got a MKE spare parts kit, but now I wonder if the spares are junk too.

@@illestdomer2005 Thing is, I'm not from USA, I'm from the South Cone of the american contient. On the good side, we don't have that SBR nonsense. My AP5 came bundled with an FAB AES side-folding stock (not as cool as the A3 stock, but it gets the job done) and an Midwest M-LOK handguard. On the bad side, if I want to get spare parts, I need to get them imported from USA. Thingies like springs, screws, knobs, maybe even locking rollers, I can buy them and get them sent to a warehouse owned by an importer that deals with general goods. For more complex parts like magazines, handguards, optics, complete boltheads, stocks, that's more complicated. In any case, thanks for asking. Also, what I found out is that my AP5 is more lenient with handloads than my Gen 4 Glock. Maybe it's because of the flutted chamber. The Glock has a more loose chamber, it can chamber rounds that are a bit outta spec, whereas the AP5 hates them as it problably has a tighter chamber and/or a less forgiving feeding ramp. But it if chambers well on the AP5, you can bet your life that if it fires, it will extracted and then ejected to the next county. I always lose 5 to 10 percent of the brass because I can't find the cases on the grass at the shooting range. I really need to device some sort of clamp-on brass catcher for the AP5.

Wayne Burton hi Wayne, ur welcome! In general, I wouldn’t worry about the finish and just shoot/enjoy your SP5 as it is easily refinished to new looking condition. I only use a claw mount when going old fashion with a G3/91 and I sometimes use small pieces of tape (usually if attaching to a friends gun and they are all worried). B&T low mount is what to use if looking for a cowitness optic set up.

Cars and guns are different. You aren’t checking the gap to see if they missed out on their quality control, you are checking the gap to get an exact starting point for your own references in the future. After you fire the first few hundred rounds it tends to shrink a little bit and then stays put for a long time to come. It’s nice to see where it started and where it maintains

Or you could open your owners manual, learn about the components in your weapon and there respective locations. That way when someone says “place a feeler gauge between the back of the bolt and the front of the bolt carrier” you will know exactly what to do.

Derek I'm highly upset with HK, I've always wanted an MP5 thanks to the movies so about 9 months ago I had an opportunity to get 1 but not a lot of money so I purchased the PTR 9ct in FDE, I was so happy when I got it until I shoot it. I had so many malfunctions and was regretting the purchase until after a 300rd break in process, then it started working great up to around 3,500rds when the extractor spring had to be changed, well just so happens that HK decided to import the SP5 and I figured that they would sell for a premium of $2,500-$2,800 until a buddy of mine got 1 for only $2,050, needless to say I was shocked but then we took it to the range and ran 200rds through it suppressed and unsuppressed without a single malfunction or anything, smh, why, oh why did HK wait so dam long in releasing there mp5 for import especially 9months after I just bought the PTR.
