Terrific job as usual. I recommend protecting the pick ups to the wheels with a couple of layers of insulating tape underneath covering the pick up board to protect them from damage. They're very easy to break if you're not careful. Take this from one who knows😔

I have repaired a couple with edge to edge soldering! That’s a good suggestion with insulation tape, I have also used superglue to hold them in place better. I hope Hornby start selling the keeper plates and pick up strips as very keen priced spares as these will be needed as some time. 😁👍

Absolutely brilliant :) It would be great if version 2 of the 08 will come with this as standard.

Cheers Tim. I think for Hornby to do anything like this it would have to be so specific but next gen decoders etc could change everything if they can get hands on smaller components

It’s not very hard, confidence to get stuck in is the hardest part 😁 This way you are not risking anything expensive. Always on hand if anyone gets a bit stuck. 👍

A lot easier methods of getting sound to this loco and not much more expensive and no soldering

Zimo mini 6 pin decoder mini box speaker easy fit £1114.

@ ahh yes but it won’t work with HM DCC App (Bluetooth) that many people want. I have 2 08s on the Zimo Mini decoder, with speaker, Stacx alive and the excellent sound project from Paul Chetter. Obviously there is some soldering unless you get Digitrains to do it for you £3. The Zimo set up I have is £160 a go, it’s fabulous no doubt. If you watch the end of this video, I show a quick comparison between the two, HM DCC installed and Zimo. 👍

I’ll be doing my loco next week all being well. I think I want to add lights, and at least add the crew. But I don’t know how yet, still looking and thinking of that. Just looking for the pin details
@HighFell
@HighFell Ай бұрын
If you check the HM DCC manual it will give you all the details on which outputs are controlled by which functions. Remember all those outputs are 12v so you will need to install resistors to choke the current down for any LEDs . For space you will probably need to use SMD resistors and 24k to get the lighting right. There is a small amount of adjustment available through the app on CV settings but the main part is via a resistor. Adding crew is easy once you pop the cab off.

Fantastic! Surely the Hornby 6 pin is dead - even before it arrives?
@HighFell

I don’t think they will give up on the 6 pin and it really is the ideal solution. Although it’s possible to fit the n18 in there is no way Hornby or any manufacturer would use this method 🤣

I've just ordered this very 08 and want to do this very thing but am struggling to get the exact items that you're using. Is it possible to make a simple shopping list and link the items in the description at all please (I'm thinking idiots guide 😉) . Really helpful video thanks 😁 👍

@@HighFellreally sorry but just can't identify the items I need apart from the motor.... I'm worried I'll get the wrong thing! Is there a product code you could let me have? 😊

@philsilva13 ok so you have found the 08 Coreless motor on Bayliss Bespoke Designs website? On the Tramfabriek website you will find the Nano Power Bank, 02020204H You have a choice of decoder and/adapter plate. If you use the HM 7000 TXS 8 pin decoder you cut the plug off and wire it as per the previous video and then do the rest of the install like this to fit it all in the engine bay. If you choose the HM 7000 TXS N18 decoder you can choose which female adapter board you get from Tramfabriek, either Type 1 02020107 or Type 2 02020108. The difference is the number of solder pads. You will need some 4mm heat shrink to insulate two of the soldered joints on the capacitors of the powerbank. The one joining the two capacitors is fine open due to its position. Some insulation tape and superglue.
