She doesn't need cat/traps this carrier can get jets in the air, as fast, if not faster than other carriers. This Ship hasn't long been commissioned, and the UK already has 21 f35s. More than enough to fill her decks for any deployment. Big Lizzie is a true 5th generation aircraft carrier.

G'day Navy Lookout, That's a truly impressive sight. An aircraft carrier without aircraft is almost as sad as a wine rack without bottles. She must be heading out again soon otherwise her air wing would have flown off to their land bases before entering port. But then again, I forget these are F-35s, they don't have to fly back to their land bases just because the ship is in port. They can leave anytime they want, having a VTOL capability. A fine warship. What a pity our RAN has had to exist without a real carrier for all these decades since HMAS Melbourne. About time you built one for us as we, seemingly, don't have the capability to build one of our own. Cheers, and clear seas ahead of you. BH

@@andrew30m Thing is Andrew, I'm British and as such moaning is my hard won birth right. As a race, it's almost our duty to complain. In the "use it or loose it" sense. All NCO's regardless of which branch of the armed services they are from. Soon learn to worry when the lads stop complaining or cease to take the Papa India Sierra Sierra out of everything. It means there is something really wrong. Same goes for some of the better commissioned Rupert's too. I've had the "pleasure" to serve alongside the ANZAC's and they are the same, perhaps even worse!. I can't speak for Canadians. It's funny to read in these comments from none Brits. Expressing concern that we UK veterans complain all the time. As if it means we are being unpatriotic or disloyal. Makes me chuckle. So Andrew, be assured that every veteran who sees that carrier sail by, warts and all the issues. Will stiffen his spine and stick out his chest in pride. They may even shed a tear and blame the pollen. "God save the Queen!"

I love our navy she has a great history and building towards a bright new one but I really can't see an air group when we only have 4 F35s and have borrowed the rest from the US Marines. I know this is progress but before we go sailing into the South China Sea perhaps we could do with a few more 😕.

Just got back from the Hot Walls to see her off on her deployment. The silhouette of those F35’s in the twilight is absolutely stunning. They give off an air of menace like no other shipborne aircraft I’ve seen on our carriers. There is most certainly an air of the Star Wars about them. I’d show you the pics, but that old iPhone SE of mine is about as much use as a SeaCat against an Exocet - there, that will set the commenters warbling…..

Multiple UK newspapers and news sites stated the QE return to Port was "unexpected" and weather "caused". And one of those sighted the source as the Royal Navy, later a statement went out that it was not caused by mechanical or personnel problems, and stated " to complete final preparation s" but failed to mention anything about the weather.
