To slow it down through the air? Like all parachutes do…

@@chad6080 yeah nice one, why does it need to be slowed down in the air? Since it’s going in the water anyway
@chad60802 ай бұрын
@@lachlanchester8142 it’s to protect the sensitive electronics from impact damage. Needs to launched at speed to clear the deck, but enter the water as softly as possible. Also reduces the noise signature of the torpedo entering the water so that the submarine doesn’t know it’s been targeted.

couldn't they just fire underwater?

Sadly, no ship launch torpedo system for the nextgen ASWs. Madness.

I had to check that it was so unbelievable. An ASW frigate with no organic ASW weaponry. Better hope your helo is not u/s or weatherbound.

Surely not? Maybe they figure that if the sub gets that close it's already too late.

Asroc capable
@paulwalker10862 ай бұрын
@@TheRpjenner RN doesn’t use asroc. No plans to either I think. They want to fill the T26 mark41 with land/surface attack missiles. Just relies on its helo for sub attack. Doesn’t seem right to me. An ASW ship should be able to prosecute a sub attack with lots of options. Ship launched included.

All torpedoes wear hoodies and his flew back on take off. Simple.
