This one really resonated with me. If you are not ready to let something go, then wait. I lost my dad 19 years ago and after about 5 years I could finally give away the suit he wore to my wedding. He only had one suit and he looked terrible in it. When I saw the guy I gave the suit to at church, I was so happy. Brian, the recipient of the suit looked so smart. I complimented him and told him he looked great. It gave me so much joy knowing the suit went to a home to be used instead of sitting in a cupboard. It took time to get to the stage of giving it away, but it was worth it. Thank you Mrs Heart for your channel. Looking forward to catching up on all the videos.

I worked a job that physically and mentally exhausted me. Housework was hard to keep up with. At the holidays, so much stuff got put in boxes and shoved in other rooms or the basement, just to help me get the house cleaned fast. I've been retired for two years now and slowly getting through my clutter. The amount of paper, bill reciepts, old mail, magazines, etc I keep coming across is just astounding!

It's definitely a huge step to start clearing out your storage unit(s)! Yes, it looks like a step back from the outside, but it puts the things into reach for decluttering range, and you keep trucking through! I'm having a hard time grieving the baby stage of life, it's really hard. I have a bin of sentimental baby toys, and was inspired to go through them and put my favorites in a smaller container. It felt good to see my favorites all together like that. Such hard emotions, but its really inspiring to see another mom working through these things, too.

You actually made me cry a little bit this episode, and I'm not sure why it's hitting me so hard right now. I had to "declutter" my best friend recently and I'm still struggling with the fact that I miss the season - as you put it - that I had with her, but I know she wasn't good for me in the long run. In hindsight, she was manipulative and used me as her personal credit card and almost ruined my financial future because of her mistakes and I trusted her too much. The friendship itself was actually surprisingly easy to let go of because I had a good support system, but the emotions I feel when I remember the good times we had are hard for me to reconcile with the bad feelings that forced me to end the friendship. It's confusing, and some of my good memories are tainted because of it. I'm not entirely sure where to go from here.
@laurennoel5176 Жыл бұрын
Just letting you know that I completely empathize with your situation, Temari. I had a best friend of over 18 years, and I loved her (still do), but she had so many toxic qualities that she refused to address despite my efforts to help her and confront our friendship's problems. I regretfully "decluttered" that relationship from my life about 5 years ago, and I still think of her regularly. Some days are hard missing our good times, but I have to remind myself that she didn't want to apologize or acknowledge all the ways she hurt me and our friendship. The healthy choices almost always involve some level of sacrifice. I hope you can stay strong and don't give up! You deserve love and respect and friends who appreciate you 💖
@Temari0Is0Cool Жыл бұрын
@@laurennoel5176 Thank you. I needed some extra support from friends and family about half a year ago to really cut ties and I'm trying to stay strong. I haven't spoken to her since I got out of the living situation I was in with her, but for a short bit I didn't block her on anything. Now i can't imagine trying to reinsert myself into her life at all. I wanted to remain her friend a year ago but not live with her. Then maybe 3 months later, I realized how far the betrayal went. I can't do it and I know I can't. But I'm glad someone understands that it is still hard to let go of something you once thought was good for you. (Even typing that, I'm realizing STILL how apt that is to everything this channel represents.) Than you for your words of support.

@@Temari0Is0Cool I'm so glad to hear you're hanging in there and able to gather support from your friends and family ☺ I think our society really underestimates the value of friendships and how a broken friendship can hurt just as bad and sometimes even worse than a romantic breakup. You're so strong for acknowledging all these feelings and letting yourself process them. You're doing great and it will continue to get a little easier every day! 💖

I resonated with the baby toys so much. I survived my childbirth with my son barely and was told I should never have anymore children. We wanted 6 to 10. So I had planned many items for multiple children and I have been slowly decluttering but also saving certain pieces and I think I am doing a pretty good job. I love my son so its been awesome just cherishing the memories with him. My sister and friend are having multiple children so I will have little babies to hold and love and I will be giving items that my son cant use anymore to them to enjoy. I have a couple bins though where I just cant declutter yet and that's ok.

There's a fireplace! I can see the basement finished now. Nice flooring, some beautiful shelves to store your things, a workout area, a play area, sitting on the couch near your fireplace in the winter. Beautiful. I'm not a hoarder, but I'm definitely a cluttered person. It's a struggle to manage. I consider myself a minimalist that loves too much stuff. LOL. My hang up is clothes. Letting go of clothes is a sign of a failure for me (gained a bit of weight after a big loss). Thank you for teaching me to give myself more grace.

I've really enjoyed watching your channel, not only because you have a great short term-long term process, but because I live in the same region of the country (Philly) and it is good to see and hear the local dialect, see items and logos from local stores, etc. I have been trying to support more local channels in general, because it is by extension a connection to the regional community -- something I don't think we have enough of. Don't sweat the sentimental kid saves -- I had boxes, tubs and closets full of them until my last move in 2015. Sadly, much of it was ruined, and my other excuse --- saving it for the grandkids --- became lamer and more irrelevant by the day as the grandkids became too old for the things that were salvageable. I ended up with one special cedar chest with my most sentimental saves once I let it all go.

Well done for bringing home the storage unit items and dealing with them, so you don’t start to re-clutter your basement again or have multiple places filled with things. Also, I appreciate this is very hard for you to process, but I definitely think a Konmari sort and declutter of the baby toys is something worth considering, as I think it may be holding you back a little from making further emotional growth in this area. Furthermore, I think it would also help your children, because they would realise that you are focusing all your emotions on honouring them as older children and not sub-dividing your emotions by focusing part of your attention on the further children you wished you’d had. I wish you luck with starting to do this and offer you a supportive virtual double-hug. 🤗🤗 Although, I also want to add that I respect the fact that, if this proves to difficult at the moment, then perhaps you should journal and do a deeper reflective dive into why that is and prepare yourself for completing this work in the near future. Finally, I want to add that it is great that you are holding yourself accountable for finishing the decluttering tasks these days by throwing away the recycling straightaway - Great job. 👏 ❤

An amazing job you are doing. I am in the process of shifting, and our decluttering has been huge over the last 6 weeks. I have one room however that I just haven't been able to face. We are on holiday at the mo which has been a much needed break. We go back tomorrow, the packers come in on Monday and then the movers come in on Tuesday. Hubby and I will go do part of this room on Monday and then the rest will be packed and the rule is if we can't find a home for it, it has to go where it will bless someone else's life. This room is full of stuff from our past and from different relatives who have passed on. It is not going to be easy, but watching you and others I follow is helping me to let go. So a big thank you to you for sharing your story.

And I just though, that perhaps one day, you could gift it to Brandon. Perhaps when he will be moving to college or having his own child. Speaking of which-those toys look good, and in very good conditions! If it's so-well, maybe many years from now, you will be able to play with your grandchildren with the same toys your boys grown up. We have some in our family, that passed by thru generations. Not much, but the oldest thing belonged to my grand-grand parents for sure! PS -I see the dino you are letting go! Yeay-you anyway managed to letgo of something from that tub! And that's truly amazing! You are a rockstar on this path! A big hug to you! Cannot wait to see how gorgeously you will make that basement look like at the end of this year!:) Cheers! 💜

@darleneh608 Жыл бұрын
Becky, when she says "honor your feelings" I interpret that as acknowledging that there's nothing wrong with you for having those feelings. You're just not ready yet to take on that particular bin, so it's okay to set it aside and move on to something else that you are ready to work on. Too many people think that you should be able to declutter once, do it perfectly that first time, and be entirely done and never have to declutter anything again, but the reality is that it is more like peeling an onion. You start with the easiest stuff, work your way through it layer by layer, and eventually you get to the point where the tough stuff isn't so tough, and then you're ready for that next layer. Don't push yourself too hard. Chances are if one bin is too daunting to work on, you likely have an easier bin where you could work instead. It's okay to save the hard stuff until you feel ready for it.
