My daughter is a saver and is now going through rooms and closets. Today she filled 4 bags of trash, 2 bags of recycle, and numerous bags of donations to our thrift store that supports Alzheimer research. It took me telling her its ok to pass it on if she isn't using it, even if I gave her something. No one gets blessed if it sits unused in a closet. Thanks for your tips!

I love both of you ladies, but right now I’m getting ready to move and my house has everything out which makes my PTSD 😬 and I’m watching Erica’s unpacking videos to make myself think about how I don’t want to unpack a 100 boxes! Your anxiety tips are really helpful, I’m having some issues with my nervous system and it feels like a constant panic attack. I used to be a hoarder, thought I’d gotten on top of it but found a couple of items that really messed with my head. I got rid of them, but yeah the emotional decision is the key, which I find interesting as I’m a very analytical person in every other aspect of life. You really are awesome & helping so many people 💜

Once I've learned neither my daughter, grown granddaughter and friend don't want my things I've decided to get rid of, and posted to them on PM, I have such a strong desire to get it to Goodwill as soon as possible, so I put it in the car and today I took a bag with just a teapot and a tee shirt and waited in line of cars to donate it! Yay, 2 more things I no longer need, out of here!

@ahoardersheart
@ahoardersheart 3 жыл бұрын
This is very true...which is why I have to keep it out of a land fill so my heart doesn’t fill with guilt and make decluttering a negative experience. That creates unhealthy mental anxiety. This is the hamster wheel of hoarding disorder: we’re fighting to keep our mental sanity by making these rules within our minds by hoarding, recycling, giving, repurposing so the item isn’t wasted ♥️🙏🏻♥️ Think Toy Story...it feels like our things are alive with feelings.

@@amandak.4246 That's not quite what I meant. I just think about all the hours that are lost moving stuff from one place to another. Time that can't be got back. This time is taken from family and children that are way more important than keeping a pen, or marker or tape, or another sticker from the landfill. If I take "care" of this item, it is ten minutes or more that I don't get to spend with my children. I'm trying to understand but I'm not there yet.

@Kattenma
@Kattenma 3 жыл бұрын
@@amandak.4246 there’s nothing unsustainable about donating to charity. Making sure each and every item is in someone’s direct hands does not guarantee it won’t be in a landfill, it most likely will just sit in someone else’s house until it inevitably ends up in one. Honestly the best way to keep more things out of a landfill are to stop consuming so much. That’s a major part of the hoarder cycle. When you hoard your house, your house becomes the landfill. We have a moral obligation to reduce, then reuse, then recycle. And we have a moral obligation to our families to spend time on them, not churning hoards round and round the house. Pick one charity to donate to until your house is clear of the hoard, then when that’s done I think you can be more choosy about where you donate. But for now you’re just delaying the inevitable and feeding your hoarding cycle.

I know I'm commenting on a lot of these older videos. I've not been watching them in the right order, so I'm sorry about comme t I made and then saw that you addressed them already in another video. I've been very I'll, so I could not watch vids for about 7 mos. I am loving your progress ... and, I am really catching up! But, I will say that you are MY GO TO GAL for helping me better realize my own OCD, ADHD, PANIC, ANXIETY, AND COGNITIVE/ MEMORY issues. I am right there with you. I am single and live alone. I am disabled, so I am limited in my mobility. And, my brain is a hot mess when it comes to getting cleared out and cleaned up. I am what you would call a super organized and clean hoarder. And, I have Konmaried the heck out of my home and storage building. It is a new, well built, and clean shed, so it has helped me make some room. And, it is huge! My problem is that I have so many beautiful things that I am at a standstill! My other issue is that I do not have an accountability partner. I've helped my Mama organize, but she will not get rid of anything! She has her huge home to herself and has filled every room closet with her things. So, she is useless to me! Lol! She just doesn't get it! My goal is to get an accountability partner and some help to get my home back. If you know anyone looking for the same in Upstate South Carolina, have them hit me up! I'll see how I may communicate with you better.

I'm feeling the pinch. During the snow in I totally went for crash and burn in my sewing room. I got rid of half my stuff. It is good expensive stuff and it hurt so I know I learned a lesson there about being INTENTIONAL ( MY 2021 WORD) with my spending and money and what I bring into this house. Now, I don't have a "spend" day until Wednesday and I can't get into my room to finish it up. My pile is huge! I still have one corner of the wall unpainted. I can't get past the stuff. I need bins for garage sale storage!! Ahh! A victory and a bit of a let down.
@AmyWhoLovesFlowers
@AmyWhoLovesFlowers 3 жыл бұрын
Wow! It sounds like you made a huge jump forward deciding what should go in your sewing room! Food for thought: When I did a huge clean out over the past year, I ambitiously held on to too many items to sell and ended up feeling stuck, overwhelmed, and stressed out by all that “pending” stuff in my space. I finally decided to give almost everything away to the food-pantry-combo-thrift-shop in my area. And I only saved for resale the few things that were very very expensive-that I knew I could sell quickly. I really wish I’d done it earlier-because those boxes cost me untold stress and prevented me from doing what I wanted to do in my space. And on top of all that, I got sick and THAT REALLY changes priorities quick! So, It’s so amazing to read that you are having success with deciding what can go-but take it from me: Please be careful not to have that pile o’ stuff hamper your excellent progress! You never know what positive or challenging times the future holds. IMHO, we use up the joy of craft supplies just in shopping, buying, and day dreaming about them and it is no waste to pass them on to other people instead of using them ourselves. Things we overbuy and don’t use are part of learning about ourselves. And if you can, it just might be worth it to just let the stuff go to lighten your burden and do what you’ve wanted to all along!Caryn, you deserve that painted corner!! 🎨💜 Thanks for sharing! You got this!! One step at a time!

Just a correction: emotions come from our brains also. Thinking of the heart as the place where our feelings come from is an old misconception. You can argue with your feelings too... think of it as leaving an abusive relationship. You are clinging to someone or something that you love but makes you miserable.
@ahoardersheart

I can see that! My brain needs to develop a better relationship to my emotions then!! As you mentioned are struggling to redistribute some stuff when you are ready to get rid of it as you don't want it to go to landfill (I have the same issue especially with clothes). Perhaps concentrate on the inflow of stuff into the house as well. Before buying think...how will I get rid of this when if has completed it's use for 'me'? It has really reduced the amount of stuff I bring in and stopped a lot of impulse shopping which let's be honest is mostly low value stuff that we don't use for long (otherwise it would have been a planned expense).

been watching alot of your and Erica's vids and feeling strong enough to do a little more decluttering or at least organizing my sentimental items that belongs to my mom, that I have now that she passed, but I don't feel emotionally attached to. She wouldn't want me to hang on to them and I spoke to family members and they don't need me to save them for them and gave me lots of emtional suppport about my decsions. Thanks for helping us- Best Wishes

I find it very impressive how you deal with your emotions of attachment and you just keep going even though it is hard (I imagine it is getting easier?). I have the exact opposite problem - when I am anxious I want to get rid of everything because my surroundings are stressing me out and I am not sure that is the right state of mind to declutter - although it helps with being ruthless ;D When I watch your videos, I am reminded that it is also ok to just like some things and that it is ok to not be perfect! Greetings from Germany :)

Thank you so much for this video, my mom has decided to address some hoarding in her house, and I have the privilege to help her. This video helps me take a peek into some ways that she may be feeling and how I can help her.

I’ve been watching a lot of your videos and you are doing great! My husband suffers from hoarding disorder too. But he’s not too willing to talk much about. I have hope that he’ll start to face the clutter. I’m doing what I can. {without getting rid of a bunch of his stuff}

I keep a box in the car. When I decide to donate, it goes in the box. Once it is in the box, I can’t take it out. When the box is full I drop it off at my favorite thrift store.

my main issue with getting rid of my stuff is throwing it away, because certain things really do need to be thrown away i think. i'm good with trash, anything that's going to biodegrade, i can get it out. but when it comes to clothes... i hoard clothes like crazy, and then it takes up my entire room and there's no space to exist, and it sits in the dirty hampers not getting washed. it sucks.
