Managing a fine art studio I once saved someone who had sliced their wrist open on the edge of a glass palette. Next day I returned to find an immense pool of blood, several feet across, which had dried into an irregular disc. Now, although it was quite thick, it was on a green tarpaulin sheet- which would make it appear redder. But so struck by it, I took it outdoors on the sheet to see it in better daylight. Because much of it was almost black. An extraordinary, powerful object.

Wow. Somewhere I have that exact old Wood Elf Forest dragon miniature that I never finished painting. I'm fairly sure I bought it in the Reaper Store in Denton, TX about 20 years ago. I also painted it blue and purple. Not exactly forest-y. Thanks so much for these videos, Vince. I'm learning an incredible amount from them. Cheers!

Thanks Brother. Adding some details to this Bloodbound army i didn’t want to take to Havoc, that I’m in love with now. Your style and phasing is always helpful. Could, but probably wouldn’t do it without you. Thanks -Will

I've found a really easy spray method is to load your brush like you described, and give a nice hard puff at the tip of your brush towards the area you want affected. It's a much more controlled and realistic blast that would come with a blunt impact. It's more of a finer misting.

Someone had mentioned doing this with an airbrush as well, which I haven't tried yet. I will have to play with all of that and see what the effect looks like, but I agree, you want a fine mist. Thanks for sharing the tip.

I've always struggled with the brush spray method. Recently I tried something that after a little practice has worked amazing.... Load a brush with the desired amount of blood... I sometimes thin it too.... Hold it close to the splatter target area... But it with an airburst from the airbrush!!! For me it's worked so much better than the brush... I recommend trying it... It really gives great splatter after you find the right amount of paint, distance/angle...

I had heard someone else mention that, but I haven't given it a try yet. It's a good tip, I am going to give it a shot and see how it comes out. Always happy to have another use for the airbrush. ;)

Good stuff. I mix in some Typhus Corrosion with BFTBG to make it look like there are some chunks in the splatter.

Great video Vince! I love to do blood. I use 2 part epoxy instead of uhu glue though. I can get some great strands of blood with it. Fun fun fun stuff!! For the record my own blood does not dry or turn brown for hours. I have very thin blood. Working and installing glass for so many years and cutting myself 7 to 10 times a day it was a pain in the butt sometimes. Thanks for sharing...love your videos and look forward to the next one!

I had never considered that, I will admit, my own testing is limited to a sample size of one (my own cuts), what 2 part epoxy do you use? I am always looking to try new things.

I use Devcon 5 minute epoxy. I think it works pretty good. I had some Loctite epoxy and the harder got hard. So, I reorder Devcon instead now. I also use the Vallejo Gory red and another one I cannot remember right now. I love this stuff. Love your videos. Thank you!

Very cool! I'm doing a few armies that I would think are very bloody. Ogres and Warriors of Chaos and starting a Khorne army, so this will come in handy. Especially that Rat Ogre's Fishing Gaff.

I had my first attempt with blood and UHU last night and found too that it's much more workable without paint in it. The paint keeps it malleable but seems to lose it's tackiness so it's much harder to attach to the miniature and to stretch out as well. It's like a putty rather than a glue with the paint in. I can see it being good for making viscera, disemboweled intestines, general piles of gross though. I've brushed some varnish onto the blood strands to see if that will toughen them up a bit and then I'm gonna give them a final coat of BftBG.
@VinceVenturella
@VinceVenturella 4 жыл бұрын
Yep, certainly another way to go for sure in the end, the less "glue" there is in there, the less like UHU it will act. But you can always coat it as you mentioned.

What about soaked-in blood (e.g.: a guy in something like a gambison (Empire or Bretonnian line troops) with an injury soaking through the fabric, or a skaven/beastman/werewolf...etc where the fur would actually be matted with gore)? I feel like I'd start with something in a deep purple because you have a lot of fibres sucking up the light. I'm guessing lots of thin glazes (to preserve some if the heraldry or fur highlights) and finish off with a gloss? I recall one of the 'Eavy Metal team did a Bretonnian army with lots of wounded once and everyone I knew was daubing red all over their models immediately afterwards. The classic stainned bandage would work on lighter colours; but less so on fur, blues, greens or russets.

@VinceVenturella 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, if we are talking soaked in blood, you want to drift into the hull red, brown/red area. The blood would get darker, you are completely correct. You then generally want a little fresh glossy blood on top (if we are talking fur) to represent the blood on the tips of the thin fur catching the light) and if in cloth or something similar, all matte, as the material itself has a low light reflection.

Could you paint on some PVA or varnish (maybe even CA glue?) or something to help reinforce the strands before painting the strands? Or do they just go brittle, making the process counterproductive?
@VinceVenturella
@VinceVenturella 4 жыл бұрын
You can, you can also apply some gloss varnish.

Is that the old Woodelf dragon? I'm kind of bummed that I didn't finish my 'Glade Lord on Forest Dragon' before GHB 2017 changed his keywords and dropped his awesome Command Ability. Thanks for the tutorial!

Right on Vince, I appreciate your positivity! Thanks for sharing your skills! Once I feel happy with my KO I'm going to resume work on the Glade Girls and try to finish my Wanderers. The 'Wanderers' might be a good army to revisit on an episode of Warhammer Weekly. The 'Realm Wanderer' and 'Mist Walker' abilities really change their play style I think. Now the Glade Guard can hit anything on the table with their 'Arcane Bodkins', whenever they want to. I think this makes them among the most 'killiest' of units in the game. Quick Question: can you choose to deploy any unit as a 'reinforcement' or do you need a special rule to bring units onto the table after deployment? I ask because the Wanderers might have the best answer to 1st turn movement shenanigans if they can simply not deploy themselves. If you cannot deploy the basic units in 'reserve', then they might need a special strategy to survive the first turn specifically designed for them. Anyway, thanks again!

My feeling is no, as it would shake as you looked around and moved your head. I think a stable, high angle shot from a decent-ish cam is where you want to go.
