HobbyKing SkyRay (aka RMRC Mako) - Kite Fly By +Crash

G'day All, I was just down at the field and one of the guys was trying something new. Tow launching gliders from a big box kite! Check that out here • Video
I was flying about with the SkRay doing some FPV and so I figured a few passes would be a good idea.... here is the result.

Magic footage MD. It was a tip stally kind of day, I did the same thing with the big FX79 unexpectedly. Just a bit more wind than we were feeling at ground level maybe.

-RCWASP- yeah, it was flying really well. I have never experienced any tip stalling tendencies with this plane in the last, it has been a really solid flyer. The damage is not too bad, so it will fly again. Although I might consider replacing it with a mini Talon, they look cool too. Cheers Michael

Was great watching u fly with my fatsharks and im like you, No idea what happened exept stall Hard to know how fast your flying when your immersed in the view but maybe now you can set throttle to a certain position to keep the speed We never stop learning 👌

This is true! I think Allen may have a point, dirty air behind the kite may have unsettled it at the lower than normal speed. I'll take a better look at the air frame tonight... but starting to think the gear will go well in a mini talon!

Its not a kite it's a UFO, your electrical system was probably overridden, just like in the movie "The day the earth stood still". Great effort to do a flyby it looks amazingly cool. More seriously though, I noticed that you lost control after passing the rear of the kite, is it possible you flew into what we call "dirty air" and combined with a slow speed?? just a thought. Hope she rebuilds ok for you. thanks for posting.

I was a bit surprised at the time, it is usually a stable wing. I was turning down wind and was travelling a bit slower than I normally would to get the UFO in frame longer. It all makes for a good video. I love a crash vid...

It certainly went in hard, but was fairly flat, so it was repairable. Flew again last week end!
