I own this generator (among others) and I’m pretty happy with it. I purchased it knowing it’s limitations which for me are minor. As these things become fancier (app, internal charger, UPS), I’m starting to notice that the usable battery is starting to become less and less and that they are becoming heavier and heavier. I don’t find that to be the case with this one. The idea of getting this type of capacity with the ability to add more to it , and it’s still truly portable is a big selling point. Especially at this price point. Yeah, the 60 watt vs 100 is a weird choice, and the limitations for solar charging is unfortunate but I’m still happy. I should also note that their customer service is pretty responsive and it comes with a water proof cover and a nylon bag for the accessories. Pretty good deal.

If you get to test the expansion battery, I'd love to know how well they document the interconnect. The expansion might already be more interesting than the core unit, given that it has a 30A 12v XT60 output (correct gender, too!) and it's own MPPT controller, but being able to use that apparently 24v connection with other gear would be awesome.

I am not certain if it has been mentioned already but the latest version of this E2000lfp which I received recently due to an rma is now outputting 120volt ac whereas the prior version would only do 110volt. I would assume it also does output usb-c 100w pd however I don't have a usb-c powered device that will pull in 100watt, my laptop only pulls 60w even from its only power adapter. I had ordered one in August and it worked well and I really liked it however it had a strange issue with the ac inverter and the exhaust fans and that one only put out 110v, so they are making changes/improvements/revisions...so good on Pecron!

Great review, thank you! My question is, can you charge this, or any other similar power station, using a regular (not inverter) generator?
@ainttakenanyshit Жыл бұрын
A "regular" generator normally has the engine running at 3600 RPM to easily make the 60 Hz required for devices. As the output is relatively clean, it should be OK to power the AC charging "brick". What you don't want to do is use any AC voltage source that has a square or modified sine wave, like in some cheaper UPS's that have a very "noisy" output. Any AC device - charging brick - will work BEST with a pure sine wave input....

@micatnight20102 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Professor, for another great review. I've yet to see any review from someone else that even comes close to the level of detail you put into these videos. If you have some time, I have a couple of questions: If the primary reason to purchase a SG is for backup power (think, Florida) it seems to me the best option is to have UPS capability (UPS relay). That way, instead of just being stored somewhere, it can take the place of a computer/TV UPS and be used on a daily basis. Is that a fair assumption? I've gone through several tropical cyclones where we lost power. The main thing electricity is wanted for DURING a storm is the refrigerator, TV and internet. Flashlights, battery powered fans, and small power banks for phones, etc. can take care of most other needs. I know the technology (and prices) are rapidly changing, but based on my above criteria, would you have any recommendations? I've posted a couple of your videos on the Eye On The Storm blog (Yale Climate Connections) and was surprised at how many people weren't even aware these things exist. I'll post this one too later today. I got an email from YCC the other day titled, "Everything to buy if a hurricane is forecast for your area" and there wasn't even a mention of a SG. It seems to me that should be on the essential list for those that can afford one. Especially since practically every storm has someone dying of carbon monoxide poisoning from a gas powered generator. Any thoughts you may have on this will no doubt be appreciated and passed on to the EOTS blog. Thanks again, Mike

E3000 uses short cycle NMC where this uses long life LFP.

@@HOBOTECH Thank you. I would guess that Pecron will be offering a new version of the 3000, or something larger down the road using LFP with the expansion features as well.

Has anybody run a Pecron E2000LFP laying on its back instead of upright? Trying to figure out if there's any problem with this, but can't seem to find any info online. Thank you!

Re UPS function, you say it has pass through charging; can't you just plug things into it plug in the brick? So when the power comes back on, it resumes charging. If the loads are always running off the batteries, say 500 watts , this is actually a type of UPS that provides seamless switchover, but yes does wear out the batteries more, as they are always online. But at 3,500 cycles, over 10 years, calendar aging will kill this before using it all the time would. Or am I missing something?

It's not a real UPS because it doesn't switch from using grid power to inverter during an outage. By leaving it plugged in and using pass through charging you'll wear the battery out over time.

@@HOBOTECH I'm becoming confused how to best use these features.. I ordered a P2001 for my first solar power system, and it sounds like I have to choose between running things on solar (daily) and using the UPS.. In order to use the UPS, it must be connected to AC power.. but then that means it'll be fully charged at all times and unable to collect solar when the sun shines.. I can't have standby power, and reduce/offset my grid power usage at the same.. This reality makes running things like refrigerators unrealistic unless I manually intervene. So, for now I suppose the plan is setting up an automated heating and cooling system.. I have enough independent units I can set half up to run on solar only with no AC power, and half on AC power to kick on only if the solar powered ones can't maintain a temperature threshold. It's important to find a way to discharge useful power as much as possible, as I'm using those grid power offsets to subsidize the cost of the equipment. I have four 100w panels on the way, nothing has arrived yet, (also have an EB3A that's never been used with solar)

Where do I get one of those charging gadgets like you had plugged in to your phone?
@realeyesrealizereallies6828 Жыл бұрын
They designed the solar imputs that way to make it hard to use cheap lithium batteries, like power queen or Redodo, as expantion batteries, unless you but 3 in series for 36 volts, in hopes that you will buy there over priced expansion batteries..I would still put 3 -100Ah batteries in series myself..

Since there is no app, can these generators ever have a software update? I'm thinking not.

Hi, can somebody tell me the solar panels i need to charge this battery? I am new to this kind of power supply. Thank you
