I just want to thank you so much for this wonderful piece of hockey history. Geez, I can't get away from my computer. With Lord Stanley's Cup in full battle and now this piece, my eyes are glued to the screen. I wish they had kept the division's in he NHL to preserve the history. But as with anything in life--evolution and progress take center stage. LETS GO RANGERS!!!

I just want to point out when this episode gets to the point where the NHL starts expanding from the four Canadian team's into the United States, it's suggests that the New York American's formed in 1925 were the first American team, when in fact the Boston Bruins who were formed in 1924 were the first American team. I hope I'm not being petty, but I think this fact is significant enough to draw attention to....
@WhiteCamry
@WhiteCamry 7 жыл бұрын
Well and true enough, but there's no Conn Smythe angle to draw from that. They would have had to do a whole other episode just to go from the Bruins to the Amerks to the Rangers before getting to Smythe, and the producers clearly didn't have the budget. They didn't even explain how the NHA became the NHL.
@MrJohnnyDistortion
@MrJohnnyDistortion Жыл бұрын
@@WhiteCamry They disbanded the NHA to get rid of one owner and not allowing him to join, The newly formed NHL. Bruins were 1st American NHL organization. Budget? BUDGET? You can't be serious.

1970 to 1976 our allstar team from Boston would go to a different Canadian city every year, the families that housed and fed us were amazing people, they have a young Boston kid the time of his life. Thank you dearly. 🇨🇦🏒🇺🇸

18:50 That's exactly what happened with French Canadiens (simply called "Canadiens" in that era), barred from pro Hockey, thus the advent of the National (and shortly after "Le Canadien", thanks to fellow Irish catholics). Not out of nationalism from racialist French Canadiens as is insinuated in this "documentary", but because WASPs saw it and wanted it that way, as Canadiens were considered second class citizens : since the "Red Coats" invasion after what they themselves called "French and Indian War", Canada was a British colonial regime, and English Canadiens considered themselves first and foremost as English/British citizens loyal to the Crown ("loyalists", of whom many fled USA after the war of independence) - another reason why the term "Canadiens" was reserved /exclusive to those who nowadays are called "French Canadiens". It's only after WW1, especially after WW2 and the fall of colonialism that originated from European countries, that things began to change... But not without a struggle. And a man like Maurice the Rocket Richard to pave the way, as well as confront deviant habits on both sides (Francophobe xenophobia on one hand, loser attitude on the other).

A funny thing aboat the swedes is that they hadn’t played hockey (with a puck) for more than a couple of months. They Where bandyplayers but since the turnement was invitational they Where legit just for forming a team. The silver was a beguinners luck that boosted Sweden to a Future power house of hockey

funny enough, the swedes didn’t get silver, the americans did, despite the swedes losing in the gold medal game. it was a weird format

See a lot of Gretzky comments, but nothing of Bobby Orr commenting yet. I think he was a player just as good and instrumental to hockey, and just wonder if they just couldn't get him to comment or something. He and Gretzky are the greatest. along with Howe, Richards, and LaPlante. (Speaking of which, imagine having to face all of them in the same lineup! You might as well give up right then!)

The music along with tables surrounding the ice shows that European hockey was more of an upper class affair, and much less of the more violent sport that was being played in Canada and the U.S.

Essentially no. Canadians definitely invented the actual concept and sport we know today as hockey, however due to Ontario fighting so hard against professionalization of the sport in the 1890s Americans invented Professional Hockey.
