One thing that never seems to be addressed. Can OVER TRAINING lead to MORE injuries? I mean, being 34 years of age and been playing hockey as long as he has, the body can only take so much. Would be interesting to see what would happen if you took two 30 year old players who play same position and get about the same amount of ice time and one does "hard" training and one does "significant" training if there would be any difference in injuries.

Liked when Andy said hockey players need to be "every athlete lumped into one" 14:25. It's a power sport, an agility sport, a fast thinking sport & when someone does a 4-5 minute shift in the 3rd period, game 7, round 3 - athletic endurance is on display.

Scientifically proven in hockey, after 45 seconds performance drops significantly. The best can hang in there longer bc of higher skill, endurance, etc. But 5 mins does not happen. The coach would physically pull him off the ice after half that lol

Sidney doing summersaults --- concussion history --- dizziness was part of his recovery I'm sure. Might not be a technical hockey move, but perhaps it's part of his training because he's still unsure of his concussion history coming back to haunt him. This may help him feel confident that his mind is not going to be hurt if he plays at full speed

The problem with a lot of this training is that it doesn't actually make you a better athlete. When you run cones, pylons, etc in a predictable manner you simply get better at running those cones, pylons etc in a predictable manner. You essentially become better at the athletic movement itself than become a better athlete. Drills that are designed more around unpredictable reactive athletic skills have a much better transition onto the playing "field". This is especially true when you've got a hockey player training on turf.
@hockeytraining3 жыл бұрын
Yep, totally agree. However, I believe both rehearsed and reactive agility training play a role in designing a complete hockey training program. I talk about how I do it here if you're interested: www.hockeytraining.com/agility

why are they not wearing hockey gear when doing dry land training ? That to me adds proper "resistence" that you would get on ice. Shorts and sneakers is not the same. The drills are great but these guys need to at least put on a pair of jeans, work boots and a heavy tight fitting shirt of some sort like those dickies you buy at walmart and add a electricians tool belt full of screw drivers and include a hockey stick, broken doesn't matter. THAT is proper training attire for hockey players. I'd even include the helmet lol. Short's and T's gimme a break. Can't believe you trainers aren't up on all the latest and greatest training techniques. Try it you'd see these guys drop like flies lol.
