Love Jack’s sense of humor. Enjoy these videos for the entertainment as much as the education he provides on so many different topics. One thing I think is funny. Jack gets annoyed by a nato strap that’s a little too long, but wears that Rolex with about 3 links too many. Darn near swivels around his wrist and slides up his arm. Keep up the good work Jack!

A sweeping second hand is very fascinating. But a ticking quartz second hand which hits every mark perfectly is equally satisfying.

Another point on NATO straps regarding sizing: perlon straps - which are extremely adaptable - often come with a kind of 'ladder' buckle that helps with sizing. I think they would serve well in NATO straps for a perfect fit.

Jack you've got to try Haveston NATO's, they've reengineered the layout to fit A LOT better by shortening them and swapping the 'traditional' sliding keeper location

I totally agree with you about NATO straps. I like the concept, but in practice, I don't care for them on my wrist. It is interesting though, that the FXD that you recommended, is a watch made for NATO straps.
@SFCB19542 жыл бұрын
Jack you said it all. It is unbelievable that people do not see that the NATO straps are exactly as you described. They should be custom made or sold in different sizes. I found in Amazon NATO straps by Barton and this was the only company that I found producing Natos in two sizes at a very decent prices. Still not perfect for my 7.5 inch /19mm wrist but their NATO straps were the only ones that got the job done. At least for me. Love watching your videos. U da best!

NATO straps are cool, generally inexpensive and comfortable, but the "dangling" part can be really annoying for me. I generally cut mine into Zulu straps. Regarding the sweep quartz seconds hands, i have the slightly related opinion that more watches should completely get rid of the "tick-tack" hand, specially if it's on the more dressier side of styles. I think that Constantin has some quartz without seconds hands.

@mtbkmaniac12 жыл бұрын
Yep, it's really easy to trim a nato. All you do is use 2 nickels as your guide. Pinch or clamp the strap between the two stacked nickels and use a new razor blade to cut cleanly and without slippage. Then you can use a lighter while it's still together and seal the edges cleanly.

The sweep in quartz depends entirely on the motor. There are fully sweeping quartz clocks for instance that work with a continuous moving motor

Most relatively modern mechanical tool watches have some evolution or proprietary derivative of the incabloc Jack describes in the video, and hold up to relatively small shocks like gunfire quite well. What's probably more concerning is their comparatively poor antimagnetism. More and more electronics are being fielded at every level, including devices that produce quite severe magnetic fields.

Seems to me that buying a watch for a known watch enthusiast, without any other background information about what they like, and what they own, is just asking for failure. Sure, as with ANY gift, it's a nice gesture. But your chances of actually pleasing the recipient seems quite low.

Is it definitive that the strap in James Bond Dr. No is a nato? I thought the nato wasn’t invested until the 1970s. Bond’s strap appears to be a Royal Air Force strap that is only a single piece and doesn’t have the two metal loops.

Dude kinda lost me with his take on the Nato strap. I'm now questioning his judgment. With his gold bracelet and black puffer vest, I guess it makes sense (for me) that he's not into Nato straps. @@gqwarren agreed. I’ve never seen one in person, but I think it would be great recommendation for a gift for the boss that is a “serious” collector.
