It's hard to believe it's been over five years - half a decade (!!) - since I sat down with John Mayer at a little cafe down the road from our office, a four-person WeWork rental that we hadn't even filled out yet. The HODINKEE team back then consisted of myself, Mr. Will Holloway, and the one and only SJPeezy - Stephen J. Pulvirent. Our team was small but strong, and all we needed back then was a free afternoon with a rock star to make some content that we are still proud of to this very day. I am proud to say that both Stephen and Will are still very much a part of this business, even now that we are over 10 times the size, and our offices are, well, a little bigger too. Talking Watches With John Mayer aired on September 25, 2013, and since then it has been viewed almost 2 million times. And now we're back with another one.

Loved this: 4:38: - "This reminds me of an era of when I was dreaming of making it. I was a kid dreaming of making it when these watches were in catalogs. You have a certain aesthetic in mind of what making it would look like for you. These watches remind me of what it must have been like to have a brand new gold Rolex in 1985. And you have a little piece of where you would have been, if you really did make it, when you were 9." ~ JM

@@MakerInMotion he means that John is old because he was able to buy Rolexes when the demand wasn’t as exorbitant as it is today. Demand was always big, but there was a time, in this century, where you could walk into a Rolex store and buy a watch, my dad did the same in the 2000s, why couldn’t John? I actually think he wouldnt be so interested as he is in this video just due to the disparity in the dollar value of guitars vs his vintage watches. His recent Martin siignature edition D-45 guitar is like 20k USD street price, and thats like his highest end guitar, and its nothing in comparison with the $$ value of the watches he's shown on here. Im not even hating but i guess its a financial status thing where you lose interest in something and start seeing it as tools when it becomes disposably cheap relative to your financial status. John is my favourite artist and my all time guitar hero, so im no hater, im just hypothesizing why he wouldnt be so interested about talking guitars from a "collectors" POV

I don''t think they have a choice when it's someone with a vocabulary and depth and breadth for love of watches when it's John Mayer. His interviews (rare of late as they are) are always entertaining, insightful, and funny and intelligent at the same time. What a blessed guy John Mayer is, he writes great songs, sings and all the women coo like babies, lol, and go crazy for him, he can play guitar note for note with the best in the world, has Elvis hair, stays in shape, loves vintage guitars and fine sport and luxury cars, has a great sense of humor, always keeps up his appearance, keeps his place clean, loves fine watches, and gives to charities. He is one in a billion. Stay cool, GOD bless you. Play on Player !!! 🙏👍👌👏🎸✌️😎

I know that I probably will never be able to get a Patek 5164A or a Daytona Paul Newman dial or any other of his watches.
