Another top review Gary. This is the first Timp that I have actually thought I might like to give a go. Looks like a decent shoe. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences with us mate. 😎🤘

Thanks Ben! Yeah, it’s a great allround show. Nothing sexy, but it doesn’t come with a massive price tag so I wasn’t expecting sexy 😀 Hope you have a great weekend buddy 🙌🏻

Altra had demos out for a trail race this weekend. I took the Timpe out for part of it, around 13 miles. I was worried about it feeling a bit more slim on my foot at the start, but it broke in nicely on the run. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I could definitely feel that grip.

That's such a great idea! Great to hear you liked the shoe too.Yeah, Vibram is a massive upgrade 👍

Same for me. Totally off my radar. Great shoe 👍🏻

Timp 5 is a bit too high for a trail IMO, so hopefully the Lone Peaks will get the Vibram soles soon too. Timps are great for running on dirt roads though
@teaandtrails5 ай бұрын
I’m ok with the stack height on the trails. Appreciate it’s very subjective though. Agree, vibram lone peak would be great 🤞Thanks for watching 🙏🏻

@MattGirvanNZ11 ай бұрын
@GaryThwaites Timps have been my go-to for ages - v2, 3 and 4. Always loved the fit and ride but they've never been quite perfect. V5 looks like it's finally getting the fire power it needs though!

I really like my Timp 4s, I alternate them with my Speedgoat 5s and the two shoes work well in a rotation. I prefer the Timps to the Lone Peaks (I do like the Lone Peaks, but the Timps extra volume works well).
@teaandtrails11 ай бұрын
Yeah, sounds like a great rotation choice 👍🏻 I’m keen to get my hands on the new Mont Blanc. They look ace 🙌🏻

That gator tab doesn’t look like it’ll be too reliable, or last long. Thing is with these, I’m never sure where in the line they fit, what are they designed for. Would you choose these over the Olympus? What kind of distances are they meant to for? I’d love to be able to just a decision 😂 Nice review Gary.
@teaandtrails11 ай бұрын
Good question! Never ran in the Olympus though… If budget was a major factor then I would be happy use these for distances up to 100 miles.

A very interesting shoe! Would love to try these with the cushioning and lightness 😍 And I love my lone peak 7’s so means a lot you rating them higher Gary 🔥

I have the tip 4, I love them but the grip on a thing but firm trails is horrendous. Being in the North east and west then 4.5 lugs are minimum 5 is perfect. How do these compare on the grip with with the speed goat on mud and loose rock up and downs in the mountains?
@teaandtrails11 ай бұрын
Hi Dave, Loose rock is fine, but the 5mm lugs on the speedgoat are better in the mud.
@FDNRunningandMotivation-ws1hd11 ай бұрын
The grip on the Timp 4 is bad but that's the least of their problem, the main problem is the upper which went completely torn and destroyed, from the inside, after only ONE month in my last pair, 3 months being its maximum duration in my first pair of Timp4, something unheard of in any other shoe or brand...😡🤦♂️

No comparsion with Hoka or any other brand, except Topo Athletic and maybe some models from Merrell (sadly discontinued ), no other major brand has a foot shaped toe box, their "wide " versions mean nothing, now regarding the Timp 5, all is cool except for the upper ( which seems to be very similar to the previous one which was the champion of rubbish, totally disposable and self destructive ) and the heel cup which does not have the required U shape to not rub against the achiles, so, that's why I'll go straight for the Mont Blanc Carbon. Cheers.

Thanks 🙏🏻

Don't forget Inov8. Their newer shoes have a similar toe box as Altra and topo.

@@teaandtrails haha! I once bought a pair of Solomon trail shoes that were discounted at REI and labeled as men's and they fit great so I was like sweet! Pretty neutral coloring and then I wore them for several months playing disc golf and once I found the barefoot community I started trying some of those and realized how Narrow these Solomon's were... Went to sell them cuz they're in great condition and found out I had the women's version! No wonder they were narrow... Anyway, now I'm looking into maybe getting some vivobarefoot magna trails or something and I might try the women's size. Do you know if you go by EU size if they line up? Rather than converting men's to women's ?

I have thousands of kms logged across a range of Altra shoes (Olympus, Lone Peaks, King MTs) and only one had a sole separation that I glued and continued good service. All uppers sound as a pound, no issues here in my expereince. Couple of my IONV8s have split around the ball of the foot though.🤷♂

$150.00 for a shoe brand that is proven to fall apart? NO. Buy the real deal Hoka Speedgoat.
