@marshi80422 жыл бұрын
Note when upgrading, DO NOT rely on the 1 through 10 performance values. They are almost always incorrect. If you switch to where you can see actual statistics as in lateral gs, braking distances, 0-60 and 0-100 times and such, you'll have a better idea of what your car's performance is. Another thing to note is the stability of your vehicle. If you often wheelspin at the start of races and exiting sharp turns, as well as bouncing off the rev limiter, the rear of your car sliding out during braking, especially if you brake through a turn, as well as sliding out during turning. A great number of things account for the stability of your car. Your car can have the best stats, but if it cant handls its own power, its all for nothing.

Flywheel and prop shaft (Driveline) are both drift upgrades, they reduce inertia/resistance between engine and wheels so your revs build faster making it easier to break traction. For that reason it's almost always better not to have them on a track build RWD as they will make the car more prone to wheel spinning out of corners. If you do this build and find your car hard to drive I'd start by removing these so you have more linear power progression.

One tiny little thing: X class will usually always be hardest because once you reach X there's nothing left. For example you could have a car that's classified as X, but just barely.. Meanwhile a Ferrari FXX K is already S2 and gets to X with like one upgrade, so that car is gonna be much better off than something that barely reaches X class. Theres many weird ways to manipulate the PI system. I only thought of this because I built the BMW X5 forza edition for extra XP, but couldn't beat any of the hyper cars on my difficulty lol.. In A class and below I think its best to use rally tire compound for road racing since most of the time its better than your stock tires and takes waaay less PI than semi slicks or slicks, they actually give pretty good grip no matter what surface you're on and if you dip a tire into the grass or dirt you'll still get close to the same acceleration as if you hadn't which really helps on corner exits if you get pushed wide or you're just trying to use all of the track, also pretty essential for when you're racing in the city that has stone or tile or whatever it is if you don't have a good tire on you will have awful pace around there most likely. Also really good for just quality of life it will give cars that had no grip off road a lot more grip so you can actually take dirt trails now without having totally worthless pace. Extremely versatile tire I think its very underrated right now.

Yea I’m extraordinarily happy to see new differentials, off-road tires, and even different sounds for select engine parts. In my limited play since it's been available, I find that overselecting tire performance on lower class cars has a much greater penalty than in earlier games, especially in the offroad or rally races. My n=1 example is I improved an AWD car (Nissan Pulsar, love that car IRL) to A800 w/ Rally tires I consistently got blown away on expert, and by switching back to stock and making other improvements to get to A800 I was consistently top 3 on most rally courses. Other than that, I think this video perfectly captures my experiences and gives credence to some of the things I had thoughts about but was uncertain with such limited playtime so far. I also appreciate the basic tuning video. Kinda glad to lose the formulaic approaches to base tunes, but also kinda wish it was there as the higher difficulty levels are seriously no joke. I usually pay more attention to acceleration. You rarely ever reach the top speed in a race, a fast 0-60 and 0-100 time is what I go for. A car that has a top speed of (theoretically) 167 with a 0-100 of say 6 or 7 seconds will be more competitive than a car with a top speed of 190 wth a 0-100 of 10 or 11 seconds in a race where you never reach 120-130 during the race. A car with a fast acceleration time and good braking can move through corners faster and accelerate ate into the straights quicker. Balance that with good handling and you have a winner.

This video is great but there are a couple of things that are different abiut upgrading in this game in my opinion: 1- front tire widht is almost never worth it, go for more power instead, 2- intercooler and cooling are some of the worst power upgrades, 3-awd swapping is still the way to go in the majority of non-powerbuild cars, 4-dont use rally tires for rally racing, use offroad. Rally tires are used mostly for road racing. 5-bodykits are almost always worth it. 6-the best aspiration upgrade is the centrifugal turbo, 7- engine swapping is meta if you can, certain engines build more power for the same PI cost (for example the racing v12 is one of the most efficient engines). Also going for more power instead of less weight is usually the way to go if your car isn't too heavy from the start.

So tired of always having to download a tune just to have something on the car when I can simply upgrade it faster than finding one all the time, especially when it comes to these high powered cars. Oh boy shit gets crazy when it comes to those cars, hardly anybody knows how to tune them properly since they go into X class. Multiple wrong upgrades with any X class car cripples the way it should feel and I honestly can’t stand it. I’ve also watched your basic tuning guide and I feel like it went well past the beginner’s level of stuff, which’ll help me make a relatively solid base/intermediate tune for just about any car. Torque is how strong the engine is and horsepower is the limit of the engine Torque = acceleration Horsepower = top speed
@MoosyPineappleMan2 жыл бұрын
Power is the energy output of the engine, you always want to maximize this as the higher this is the more you accelerate, torque is essentially how flat the power curve will be, the more flat the more consistent your acceleration will be over your rev range.
@iceslayer7772 жыл бұрын
@@MoosyPineappleMan Power can also increase top speed as you need a significant amount of it to keep the car accelerating with the high winds and rolling resistance. Another great way of thinking about torque is how much force in Newtons the tires are able to output into the ground maximum for every meter of travel.

Thanks for this upgrade video and also your tuning video. I watched both of them This is my first forza game and of course i looked on youtube to see what other people are doing so maybe i can learn a thing or two. I stumbled upon this ar12 guy and watched a few videos but the tuning he did was just really weird and never worked for me, so i just downloaded the tunes from other players. These videos really helped as a guideline and i cant wait to try them out myself. Good content keep it up :)

less weight allows for a more agile car, but a heavier car has more tire grip. fine line but big differences. if you remove weight from a miata youll find itll just throw itself around with no traction. hence why its usually easier to add power for online. if you find your car is sluggish to change directions it could do you well to remove some weight. if your car just feels like a piece of paper try adding weight before upgrading tire compound

Great video, Hoki! I am many times guilty of upgrading everything to maximum and pushing C and B cars into S1 or S2, then wondering why I'm getting left in the dust :D My favorite cars and tunes are the ones I upgraded within their starting class (Maybe a class above). They drive so naturally when they are within the bounds of their chassis. One of my favorite FH4 tunes was a '94 Supra upgraded to A class, stayed RWD with around 600-700 hp. Off the line sucked (lol) but cornering was so much fun living on the edge of grip and using a bit of oversteer. I started that tune based on your FH4 tuning guide and tweaked it from there. Thanks for all the content you post. It's awesome!

I'm not ashamed to say that I'm a complete noob at this game and franchise overall, haven't really taken a racing game seriously since the first 3 Gran Turismo games, and I really don't know much about cars in general but for some reason I was so excited to play this game and I haven't put it down yet, I'm loving it. I've been completing the map at my own pace and I've done the seasonal content, some challenges and taken it online a few times too. Online is a whole other level though. Tuning and the performance it offers outside of just seeing the arrow go up is just way over my head as of right now I've been using other peoples builds typically trying to find ones at 5 star rated if possible and even after I apply them and race online there's always a few guys that can leave me in the dust on straights and fly around every corner lol. I don't think I'm bad at actually playing the game, I rarely make mistakes or crash into barriers, I rarely miss checkpoints or have to rewind but I maybe play too safe and I'm not picking competitive cars. I think the best thing for me is to keep watching videos like this closely, get an idea of the car tier list and if I struggle too much to make my own build I may start to look at resources online that will do a step by step per vehicle how to get the most out of them, because it feels like the random ones I pick on the game from other players seem to always underperform.

Oops man I swap engines a lot. Pretty much every 4cyl I try and get that rally i4 I freaking love it. Learned some stuff here, I do a few things wrong but mostly right. I'm so glad you do performance last because I've often thought maybe I'm making slow cars and doing majority into power ends up better but terrible to drive. I really like pointy light cars that hug the road so I always tune to that, but I do a few things you said not to do; ill call that free performance for my next build. Super happy to hear RWD is back, I hate feeling like I need to do AWD.

Sometimes a build under the top level can be more fun than maxing. I try to host sessions where the target is to be exactly half the index in some lobbies I've made. Lowkey wish there was a PI index limit option other than classes online.
@Ikaros---2 жыл бұрын
classes feel faster in FH5 compared to FH4. My A799 MR2 SC in FH4 had 251 hp, in FH5 it has 280-300 hp. A PI limit option would be good to create subclasses. I'd love a restriction for S1.5 at 850 PI for example, rather than having to tune everything to just under S2 at 900 PI.
@afdelta01202 жыл бұрын
@@Ikaros--- Or have a 930 class so cars can be fast, but still limited whether you choose to max the engine, or throw some handling parts in so you don't die.

Your videos are awesome and so informative. It's my first horizon games and it's a mixed bag for me tbh. Overall the game is amazing but online is soul destroying at times. As far as tuning goes I feel like I'm studying for a degree, I try to put good tunes together but I still seem to be so much slower than everyone else even if I'm driving really clean (opponents seems to drift out of corners in street races, spewing tire smoke and are still faster??). Never had this issue in Forza Motorsport games. Ive not even come close to winning a race with my own tune in horizon so far, and if I have it's only down to making less mistakes than other players. I can complete a race cleanly; a guy will miss two checkpoints during the race,overtake me both times and still beat me even with same PI number. Hopefully I will get better with your videos.

I love how the video thumbnail has a picture of camshafts when those are some of the least PI efficient upgrades in the entire game. You should be prioritizing upgrades that make your car lighter.

Love the Colin Chapman quote. I find power to generally be the better option for RWD cars though. Weight reduction affects rear end grip on power too much for my liking.

I love, clean tarmac racing, classic, rétro cars and exotics, so I love to keep my cars clean. Therefore I mostly just upgrade the tire compound, to keep the driving experience as close to the real life counterpart as possible. Forza went trough a lot of work of making these cars handle realistically, and I want to take full advantage of that.

3:50 I would argue that AWD swaps are just as powerful as they are in Horizon 4, and I kind of hate it. I was tuning a McLaren F1 GT for S1 racing. I tuned upgraded it with it's stock RWD drivetrain, and when I went to go test it it was difficult to throttle out of corners without losing grip. I wasn't spinning out or anything but I needed a lot of throttle control to maintain grip on the car. I go to swap AWD on it and instantly it grips insanely. can max throttle out of corners however much I want. This kind of sucks because I actually like having to use skill to maintain grip on your car but there is literally almost no reason to use RWD when you can use the other, way grippier option. Yes, AWD usually comes at a cost of PI, so you won't have as much power on an AWD then a RWD car at the same class, but the ability to max throttle out of corners greatly makes up for a bit less power. Maybe I just suck, but that's my experience. You also can put maxed out tires on the RWD car for more grip but that also comes at a cost of PI, and why would you do that when you can do the more effective AWD swap?
@Uncle_Glock2 жыл бұрын
yea awd is a joke, putting thicker rear tires drops my pi on awd but punishes me when I do it on a rwd

Thanks! Funny that you don't even mention the stat numbers 1 - 10 like speed, handling etc. I guess they don't matter as much as I thought. I always built with those as a guideline. If a car handles like crap I try to get handling up while not compromising too much on speed. But I never really knew what I was doing, so this is a big help. I shouldve watched this before your tuning guide. I've been tuning crap upgrades :D

some things have changed meta-wise since this video came out. For one, it's widely recommended to only use dirt tires for rally and offroad because they provide *far* more grip on dirt than rally. Additionally, rally tires have been found to be best for A class and maybe B class.
@Kostantinho Жыл бұрын
Depends on the car and track, but If the track is partly on the road go all the way rally if not offroad wins by far. ( Sure less grip but the boost in power you get from the less pi cost is more than enough to obliterate the opposition.)
@MrDickhead472 жыл бұрын
I always did cams if I could and always seemed to be slower than others online. I stopped doing cams, focused more on acceleration and launch and started winning. Also I found that using rally tires for road racing worked well and gave me extra PI to ply with, and off-road tires for rally/off-road. There are certainly meta cars online, but once I learned how to kinda cheat the pi system is when I was building fast cars. Best example is for b class online, off-road tires for everything, they feel like slicks caus the cars aren’t fast enough.
@iamstd2 Жыл бұрын
One of the reasons why I think camshaft upgrades are worth so much PI is that raising the rev limit also completely changes the way the car goes through gears and can increase the top speed of a car without touching the final drive. Between that and a race transmission, you can REALLY fine tune the gearing to make a car that feels very nice to drive and stays in the power band at all times. I also disagree about adding aero to lower the PI and add power, because it reduces the top speed and acceleration so much. Personally, I stick with race tires and avoid adjustable aero at all costs because that way you still have high grip without sacrificing speed. Generally for me, I build tires > transmission, diff > weight > suspension > brakes > power, in that order. If it under or oversteers still, then I will come back and squeeze in some aero when needed.
@ZaZ8808 ай бұрын
Aero on worse tires is almost always the way to go, it lowers you PI so you can add more power and benfit in acceleration

Do you any more in depth tips on like drag or drift setups? You have been the best help to me on this game and FH4.
@MrDickhead472 жыл бұрын
I build for launch and acceleration, widen tires once for each class, make rear tires one upgrade bigger than front, full weight reduction. And little hacks like rally tires for a class street builds. All about cheating the pi system, like awd an old muscle car and only change rear tire width to max, feels a little weird at first but grips like crazy and more pi for other stuff.

one thing i like to do is use the upgrades said and the tune they have for the vehicle and compare the lap times as most of the time the tunes made by people i tend to see that they are slower than just upgrades no tuning

Your content has hugely improved my enjoyment of this game. So first of thanks so much. Question on this - maybe it's my cover of cars, but usually find I'm upgrading at least one or two classes (I'm really enjoying A class, S1 class rivals teaching). It's often difficult to do this without either adding power AND reducing weight, or changing engines etc. Can't seem to increase classes using the basics of this guide. Any thoughts? Engines first? Just max everything?

Quite interesting for me to watch this, I'm currently #426 on the list, I almost exclusively drive my own builds and now I'm watching "How to do what I've been doing more than 99.98% of people who've touched this game" but it's a really good watch and i can't find anything wrong with it. I may have my own ideas and preferences here and there, like I recently went for more handling and less straight line speed than I did before because I feel like it does better overall...but I also exclusively play random online races, avoiding rally stages (yeah, they didn't make the recent AddOn for me^^) other players may have a totally different experience. Oh I don't tune AT ALL, if I'm not fine with the top speed I'll fit another gearbox, add power, drop aero or pick another car. No suspension fiddling, brake distribution, none of that. I'm a simple man

@@ZaZ880 all true. I see that whenever someone beats me in the same car that I use ^^ I wasn't trying to judge, just explaining a different approach for people who don't know or don't want all that mechanics stuff and how that also works without all extra effort. If you're like me and know a superficial bit about cars but can't be asked to fiddle with brake distribution, gear ratios and tyre pressure, you might want to find a next car that does the job before you go into stuff you don't really understand because someone on KZbin told you how. It works, sure. To me, though, that feels like YOU didn't get it done, you looked it up.
