Think of it as this: Imagine there are alternate variants of you out there, every choice you made, they made the opposite, so they like you but can be completely different in personality, with slight different physical changes. Now what if there's a universe where you were born a different race, gender, species because other choices were changed in that universe, something was changed millions of years ago, and evolution took it's course there. That's how you get wildly different varieties of the same person. Also, the entire point of the Infinity Stones being powerless establishes that magic and grander cosmic power has no effect in the TVA, (In the comics, and established here, the stones have no power outside their own universe). Anywhere else, absolutely, but they're beyond that. Plus, it established that we're done with them in a story telling way. It took so long for some people to get that, hell, some still don't.

Yeah, No offense to Holden, but he really didn't explain it well. Think of it like from the beginning of time there are these variant branching timelines breaking off creating new time lines/universes. So maybe you go back far enough & instead of evolving from apes, something happened that made rabbits the dominant species on the planet & rabbits built a society instead of people. You just have these rabbit humanoids going about their day-to-day lives in a society living on the planet instead of people. Maybe if you go back a little bit before lady Loki's birth, her frost giant parents or her frost giant grandparents (I'm Not Entirely Sure How Frost Giant Reproduction Works) got busy ("Had Adult Relations") on a different day for whatever reason & then they ended up having a girl instead of a boy. Or maybe for whatever reason before lady Loki's birth, her frostgiant parents or grandparents or great grandparents or however far down-the-line hooked up with a different frostgiant. Leading to one variable in the genes passed down that that ended up creating a female Loki instead of a male Loki. It could be those complex examples, or could be something as simple as I decided to wear a red shirt instead of a blue shirt today, & it created a completely different branched timeline/universe. Just all of the different variables that could ever happen in all of time have happened at one point or another creating these branching time lines/universes. There are from variant timelines in which Loki was born that way. And they aren’t “bad necessarily” but from the timekeepers perspective, yes they are, because they are different from the sacred timeline.
@GuilhermeLima-bf1dl3 жыл бұрын
I think Holden didn't do that great of a job explaining the variants so here is my take: At this point, there is only one timeline (the sacred timeline) and when anyone does anything that is not supposed to happen in that timeline (named a nexus event), that creates a new branched timeline. That person becomes a variant and the TVA hunts them down, prone the variant and destroys the branched timeline.
@asherinka3 жыл бұрын
Not quite. There is one Sacred Timeline (order of events) , but many realities that always existed and all follow this Timeline. If one of the realities veers off from the script and thus a new timeline gets created, it gets pruned. All other realities coexist like a rope with many threads, with minor changes like race, sex or gender of variants allowed. For more details, read Michael Waldron's (head writer) recent interview, he explained it all in great detail.

I agree that the stones probably work in other universes and timelines, it’s just that the TVA completely cancels out magic and the stones powers within them. Plus, in the first Doctor Strange, the Ancient One talks as if the Dark Dimension is a separate universe, yet Strange successfully uses the time stone there. In my opinion, and since Marvel Studios has not actually said otherwise, unlike the comics, the stones do work in other universes, just the TVA was resistant to all magic

Best way to explain Variants is to use the words "What If..." What if Loki was born a female instead of a male. What if the dominant species of Midgard and Asgard weren't humanoid in form and instead another species. What if reality was more like a comic or cartoon and you had an animated pig become Spider-Ham instead of a human become Spider-Man. It's a Multiverse of Realities AND Timelines where every decision and event has a potential to change the direction of that Reality. Not all realities compete with the Sacred Timeline's end goals, which is why some Variation isn't pruned. Once there's something that competes with those end goals, you get a Nexus Event away from the Sacred Timeline/Reality which is where the TVA comes in.

That still doesn't really make sense. If there would exist multiple timelines, it would absolutely make sense for all being different (some more, some less). But as we know there is just one timeline, the sacred one and every variant is a branch sourcing from that one timeline. So every variant is equal to the original until the branching of takes place, like our protagonist Loki. Due to having a different life from that point on, changes will occure, but the source is the same. Now to have a different sex you would've to branch out during or before your parents procreate. To have different parents, as we will find out later in the show, the branching must happen even earlier. With that in mind, for a variant to be grown up and be looking completely different (or even being of another heritage), there has to be a branch that exists for years before being fixed (just imagine how far back such branching must have happened for an alligator Loki to exist), which would lead to variants of all people existing in that branch, not just a single person. So the complete different variants only make sense when multiple timelines exist, but as we know that's not the case. We could argue they are leftovers from when there were multiple timelines and were living in the sacred timelines since the other timelines were eradicated, but then Loki would have met Sylvie back when they were kids, since both grew up in Asgard.
@DHMyers19943 жыл бұрын
The simplest way to think about the variants I think is like a chessboard. You have black pieces and white pieces all playing out the game. But if white’s rook was from a different set or was painted yellow or red it would be a variant. It’s still a rook though, it can move like the rook can, follows all the same rules of the chess game but it is the rook just a bit different.

Who knows you walked on a street with a car passing by hitting you to death in this world but in another universe your alarm didn't work that day so you missed that specific point and kept on living. I never had s much headache from a tv show...is it one timeline branching out or like the show says started with multiple ones into one "sacred timeline"? Because if it started with one source it does not make sense to have a female variant. I dont know my brain is worn out...so many damn questions
@tanmaysharma93013 жыл бұрын
@@Prkwon I know right. But I have a simple theory that helps me feel I get it. The 'Sacred Timeline' is like a rope and just like a rope has a lot of threads similarly the 'Sacred Timeline' too has a lot of realities (threads) which run parallel to each other without disturbing each other. In each reality there are different versions of every person who can be different in many ways like appearance, abilities etc. but they all have to follow the same story in their life which is written by He Who Remains. In case of Lokis they are all supposed to be wicked tricksters, destined to be alone who as Mobius mentioned, themselves are evil but they exist to bring out the best in other people(like Avengers). And in the end they are all supposed to die at the hands of Thanos. And if anyone does anything different than this pre-destined path they are pruned by the TVA.( like kid Loki killing Thor, in case of Sylvie, maybe showing signs of not being evil and maybe wanting to become a Valkyrie as she was playing with a Valkyrie figure, though not yet explained) Now because He Who Remains is dead so people can do things whichever way they want and no one is there to prune them which gives us the multiverse.
@asherinka3 жыл бұрын
@@Prkwon The writers explained that the Sacred Timeline is like a script. There are many universes with minor differences that all follow the same script. Well, until (spoilers). In each of those universes, a character (say, Loki) can have different appearance, race, gender, sex, but as long as they all follow the same story they are not pruned. You can find the interview if you search for something like "Michael waldron Screencrush Loki variants", it is really helpful. You can think of it in terms of casting a character for a tv show with open sex and etnicity (because the script does not specify them) , but applied in-universe.

How you ended the video is what I would’ve started with to try to explain the variant situation: there’s an (in theory) infinite amount of universes (aka multiverse), and there’s a version of you in every multiverse. Also I had to try to explain the variant scenario to a friend who also struggled to understand it at first, so this this how I got them to understand. There’s an infinite amount of Forest Gump movies playing. In each movie, there are the same roles. Someone is Forest Gump, someone is Jenny, someone is Forest’s mother, etc etc. Each role HAS to be played. The actor playing that role could look like Tom Hanks, or they could look like someone else, regardless, it’s still Forest Gump. So for the MCU, there are an infinite amount of Loki’s, regardless of what they look like, they’re playing the Loki role, just like in a movie. As dumb as this explanation sounds, it helped my friend who was struggling 😂😂😂 all love! ❤️

Waldron (the head writer for the show and for Doctor Strange 2) gave a great explanation of how it all works. Basically, the Multiverse always existed, the TVA only prunes branches ("realities", "universes") where (someone, spoilers for ep6) is born. All the rest are allowed to coexist like threads of a rope as long as they roughly follow the same story (called The Sacred Timeline). So the Sacred Timeline is a synonym for "the script". In those universes, minor changes are allowed, hence Variants exist and are not pruned as long as their race, sex, gender etc does not affect the big story. I highly recommend that interview because the same logic will apply to any next mcu project.
@travismlamb3 жыл бұрын
What makes all of the variants the same is there essence, their soul and space in time. That’s what makes you, you. and no matter what decisions you make or what path you take, even if it effects you physically or mentally , your still at your core the same being.

Yeah, No offense to Holden, but unfortunately he really didn't explain this well. Or maybe for whatever reason before lady Loki's birth, her frostgiant parents or grandparents or great grandparents or however far down-the-line hooked up with a different person. An infinite number of different possibilities (The Multiverse). Other than that one's small nitpick, I really enjoyed their video though!

It seemed like Jen was confused by the people who WERE actually being possessed/controlled by female Loki before her reveal. Those aren't Loki's, you're right about them being other people. The other Loki variants had other small changes in their respective timelines which changed how their stories played out. The difference is that female Loki was actually born that way in her timeline, in place of male Loki, that was the change for that timeline.

My best way to explain it to my friends was.. (that's what I think it is, idk if I'm wrong) Imagine that right now, there is a multiverse existing in our reality. So that means, different versions of ourselves, exists along in the multiverse. For example, myself in another universe, did everything I did, but at the end instead of studying business management, he chose medicine, or instead of a he, is a she.. Like, it's the most overall way to see it, like just the basics. At least that's my point of view about "Variants".

Different events and circumstances create different versions of reality, resulting in variants of the same person. For example, there is likely a timeline where Cap was never found in the ice, Tony Stark remained an alcoholic or Killmonger taking over the world. When Dr Strange mentioned the 14,000,604 different realities where the Avengers don’t win, he was referring to how certain smalls events and decisions offset the ‘sacred timeline’. Also; This is almost like Marvel’s own Doctor Who and I LOVE IT.

I have seen other people theories about the Lokis and let me tell you all of them sound complicated as hell, my interpretation is quite simple imagine the sacred time line as a shoelace, all the little strings that make the shoelace are different timelines from all the multiverse. One string could be the MCU as we know it, other could be an MCU where certain characters aren't the same like a female Loki or a black Thor, another string could be the timeline where the Spider-Man from Andrew Garfield sets in, and another could be our own timeline. Evidence that prove my theory might be right: Everybody that worked on the show and producers said that there is only one TVA for the multiverse On Miss Minutes explanation, at the moment we see the time keepers holding the sacred timeline we see how it is not uniform, we see how certain strings fold and get back to normal. The fact that there is a female Loki, if the sacred time was just the MCU then why didn't the TVA appeared on the moment she was born, instead of arriving when she was older.
@wyterabitt21493 жыл бұрын
The point is that there isn't a multiverse, if there was then there would still be a multiverse to start a new war again. The entire point of the TVA is to stop the multiverse from existing to stop that war from happening, by making sure only one time line ever exists. Each branch that would make a new timeline, therefore a new universe, is ended by the TVA. I don't think it matters if Loki is female or male it has no impact on anything, but I don't want to spoiler past these two episodes so I can't say any more on your question about why the TVA didn't appear when she was born.
@eftpro35223 жыл бұрын

@nicksefcik54423 жыл бұрын

@ceramiccoconut3 жыл бұрын
Okay, so the multiverse theory is that little things can change and create completely parallel timelines/universes. Sometimes, it can be something like Bob ate an apple in one and didn't eat an apple in another. Or something big like Loki being born a woman (or consider that every version of Spider-Man... Maguire, Garfield, and Holland... are all variants of Peter Parker). Same general parentage and upbringing (unless something was different in that timeline). More or less the same DNA but certain aspects of their lives could be different. She's both the same and different than our Loki, as are all variants. The TVA go after people who disrupt the flow of time as the time keepers have set forth. So there are infinite Lokis who don't disrupt anything but a lot who do.
@patrickcromwell75543 жыл бұрын
Accurate description EXCEPT Sylvie isn't Loki. She's NOT a Frost Giant. AT ALL. she's an orphan Asgardian takin in by Odin and "took" the name Loki. Loki of Asgard was an infant taken by Odin from the Frost Giants. She's NOT actually - by definition - a Variant. NONE of the LOKIs are. Every single one is an "alternate reality Loki" Each with their Own Variants. OH wait, there was ONE actual Variant of Loki. Variant is the wrong word to describe all the versions we were shown.

24:00 My understanding of the series is that those other Loki variants were caught and pruned. That's why Mobius states that they've *encountered* many variants and if I'm not mistaken, all Variants are bad to the TVA. There is (was) only one acceptable timeline and any deviation from that would have created a branch that would have lead to a different result in the end. No variant can exist.

In terms of how Lokis have so much variation in appearance, it helps to remember that Loki’s appearance as we know it is created by Oden. He is a frost giant was made to look like an Asgardian. It’s conceivable that Olsen chose different outward appearances and even different genders in a lot of the timelines. None of those differences would have necessarily made enough of a variation in his life arc to create a split in the timeline at first it. It would be like having the same movie but casting a role differently. It isn’t until the plot changes that it becomes enough of a change to require being reset.
