I would assume the open sides would help with chip evacuation when drilling in thick lumber. Would be interesting to see a comparison of that. Especially wet lumber, like you might have when installing deck lights outdoors. I've tried the Bosch equivalent of the hole dozer, "pro" something or other, and it scorches the hole/plug. Even when actively trying to pull back a lot to clear debris, the dust clogs the teeth and you end up with more of a "hole rubber" than a hole saw. Just one hole ~ 2" deep got it hot enough to remove some of the factory paint and whatnot. Steam and maybe even some smoke came out as well.

Appreciate the comparison. That’d be particle board, not MDF. The big hawg certainly isn’t for cleaner cuts.

The Hole Dozer bimetal is recommended for metal. The Big Hawg is not for metal.

Yes. In a different online comparison the Hole Dozer actually did pretty well in mild steel. (I was surprised.) But 1095 steel quickly showed that carbide is king for hard steel.

What's best for 1 1/2 thick buctherblock wood? Carbide or bi metal for 23/8 hole diameter... And does carbide leave a rough finish on wood ? Looking for smooth nice finish also..

The big hawg is more likely for materials like brick or drywall for lasting longer. Hole dozer will always do cleaner cuts because of the density of teethes. So the hawg is for more rough materials where less precise hole doesn’t matter. Hole dozer for metals and wood clean cut.

What blade edge last longer. If you get twice the life it’s the same thing. What’s worth your time

@4:00 {" a completely unscientific test"} Thats only true thing in this video, why didn't you do a real test in real wood like like 2x6s, in an out of position condition, NOT on a easy bench where you can push down and not on kiln dry lumber and or 3/4 plywood!!!........... I'm a DIYer and I dont know about anyone else but when it comes to doing something like drilling holes, I wont buy a HF or a no name brand drill and or especially drill accessories, I usually go with the best or close to............. Therefore I have 6- 2" holes to drill in over head in 2x8s with 1" boards on outside, so I bought the Milwaukee Hole Dozer, then tried to drill a hole, after 5-10 minutes I was lucky if I went a 1/2" deep, it appears after a few turns the teeth were clogging up which stops the drilling which stops me. IMO those hole-saws are worthless in real wood.......... So I did some looking around and see the Milwaukee Big Hawg, it says for fast drilling thorough wood with nails, well that sounds more like what I want, FAST.............
