I was just talking about this with my daughter’s ex husband this morning. I am a widow (37 year happy marriage) it took me some time to accept that it is okay to not have a life partner, ( if I cannot get through a dinner out without being irritated, why would I want to have the gentleman in my space full time)I am actually quite happy living alone. ( with pets ) I enjoy my own company, I do not need someone else to make me happy. I have learned to really enjoy solo travel, what freeing experience that is. I am gregarious, meet people easily, so if I want human connection I can find it. It took me a couple years to figure out I do not need to have someone to take care of to feel complete. Have a lovely holiday

I realized that years ago so I luckily never got married... and tortured. Women who marry men die 2 years earlier than the baseline and men who marry women live 2 years longer than the baseline. That's wonderful. There are still old timey expectations of what women's roles should be. It's normal to feel how you do it's a great feeling to be content and enjoying independence. As a German we can loan you our Christmas decoration rules: you decorate for Advent (4 sundays before Christmas day) if you are hard core maybe a week early, but that is iffy for most. Then you go around your friends places as a group and 'praise the tree' (or any decoration, of they put up the tree for the 24th) the host will provide a shot or mulled wine to honour the praise of the tree. Combining a walk, with drinks and progressively good cheer. What is not to love?

In the northern half of the US we have to plan around the weather because the weather rules all. If it is unseasonably nice out, everybody is up on a ladder with strings of lights. If winter closes in early, not much gets put up and all the talk is about whether we can get to family gatherings. Most of the people I know either travel on the holidays, busiest travel times of the year nationally, or have others go to see them. Our friends wouldn't be home to do those things together. :) It's a family time.

Seriously seems like it would be fun. While quilts don't match the decor I ultimately want to do, I have an office with a reading chair that I chose to break away from the "industrial-esque" aesthetic I hope to sort of do. So, the quilt can be used there. Or here in the living room during winter. I'm curled up with a Kingdom Hearts blanket at the moment 😂

Book idea: How NOT to style, according to Nick Lewis. First chapter is you styling a room with every basic mistake you can think of, and then how you would go about fixing it to your personal taste, illustrated with photographs of the process. Subsequent chapters are the same format but with styles/themes you hate (lol) - I want to see you design the worst, cheesiest farmhouse kitchen ever. Then how you would do farmhouse if you had to, as best you can to your own taste. Same for maximalism. Same for postmodern. Same with themes (nautical etc etc). Lots of opportunity for actually useful advice i.e 'if you want to achieve this style, here's how you can do it without falling into the pitfalls of LiveLaughLove wall decals', but also an open enough format to fill with humour and personality. You could also have a section in each chapter dedicated to showing off a single seminal/significant/influential piece of design - furniture or lighting - that epitomises each style, and trace its impact on design today. I'd love to read that book, anyway 🙂

I would love a design book in which you show before and after photos of redesigned spaces, complete with short captions or bullet points of your thought processes. 11:00 Thank you for this answer. I work as an assistant to an interior designer, and we've both had people in our lives who think we don't do much all day. It's project management in addition to design. If you want a turnkey service (which you don't have to get if you are looking to hire a designer), we handle everything from product sourcing to communicating with showrooms and sales reps to coordinating and accepting delivery. If we show you two different mood boards with products to determine the direction of the project, know that behind every item, there are over a dozen other items that we picked from to get exactly what you want. We handle all of the legwork. If you've ever furnished an entire room in your house, or especially if you've ever remodeled a part of your house, imagine having someone taking care of all of the day to day questions and hiccups from every tradesperson and manufacturer. All you have to do is approve of the final designs. Yes, this isn't a necessary service, but it's a luxury service that is worth the money to a lot of people.

Nick- your design book would be YOURS by including thorough content and advice on color, advice on timeless vs trendy design (and how to include trends wisely), plus how to do it frugally. That’s a lot of your show. And it’s in contrast to a lot of books and content that just show the same million dollar rooms or talk about themselves and what they want for their rooms. And of course if your loving and edge-stepping sarcasm is sprinkled throughout it’ll be a winner. Your personality is definitely a part of the channel’s appeal, so maybe a story of how you came to learn about design threaded throughout would add something special.

Loved the video! I think s design book with your signature snark would do well with your fans. And agreed - if you have a life you are happy with, being single is wonderful and freeing. Wishing you a beautiful year ahead!

Thanksgiving Decor is adding a few pumpkins onto the Christmas decor and using orange or brown napkins for dinner. Then you put those things away the next day and put your Christmas tree up!

Just because you think decor books are boring doesn't mean everyone does. With you personality and knowledge I personally think a design book by you would be amazing. I would definitely buy it.

For me, I like to decorate when Advent starts and put them away on January 7th the day after Epiphany... although sometimes it is put up the day after US Thanksgiving and take down New Year's Day.

I am American, I decorate for Christmas on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Decorating on other holidays is a no. I put up a patriotic wreath or a flag on remembrance days because I grew up in a military family.

Christmas Decorations 🎄 mine go up at some point between Martinmass and Christmas Eve, and come down by Candlemas, which falls on 2nd February, which is the end of the Christmas season.

Loved this video Nick- I had two margaritas while laying on my sofa watching! I would love to see videos on your visions for your new home. While I am guessing it’s an evolving idea, throw things out there! I appreciate you not discussing politics or anything else heated- no bad language either. A design book I enjoy is Eddie Ross - he made a comment about the punch bowl being the grand poobah of the party! Happy Travel Nick 😊
