Thank you so much for everything I have learned about cucumbers. Last spring, I learned how to ferment, and the pickles were unbelievable! Reminded me of childhood days when my grandmother would drag me down to the country store to help her carry the groceries back home, some 8 blocks away. The old man had a wooden barrel with dill pickles in it for a nickle (5 cents) each! That was my treat for helping her to carry all the groceries back to her house. I was amazed at the difference in taste, from processed pickles to fermented ones! I will never go back to processed pickles again. This year (spring 2023), I am going hog wild with five kinds of cucumbers! All but one are the "pickling" variety. I have dedicated 15 containers, just for cucumbers this season. We will see. Four plants in each container, well-spaced apart. Whih I could share the pictures here, but I guess I'll have to do that on your Facebook Page. :) Thank you again!

Does Nancy do anything special when it comes to preserving them? Last year I took some, peeled them, pureed them and froze in ice cube trays and would put a cube in my smoothie. So refreshing! I just didn't know if there was anything special she did? I'm also going to look to see if I can see if she has any videos of recipes using them. Thanks for the tip about cucumber plant leaves not liking to get wet. I'll definitely be more careful with that this year.

We planted some burpless cucumbers. Had one, our first one, was about 12-15 inches long, really green, thought it was ready but when we picked it and cut it open, it had a really bitter taste to it. Not sire why. Still have others growing so will see how they do. Hopefully they will be good. What is the best way to determine when they are ready?

Harvest them at about 8” long. When you let them grow too big they become bitter.
