I love the shocked face of BK when Hollyoaks was announced as the winner. Totally genuine & unexpected. While HO's writers are known for selective memory, and sometimes poor s/l's, they have had really incredibly strong actors and storylines and this award was long overdue.

I watch all the soaps, but out of all 4 (excluding Doctors) Hollyoaks, Emmerdale, EastEnders and Coronation Street, Hollyoaks I'd say is the least popular, it only gets 2m viewers and Corrie, Emmerdale and EastEnders get like 7m or 8m

Well, they say all the votes were from voters at home so you can't really be angry. Besides, Hollyoaks were due this. The acting and writing standards between Eastenders, Coronation Street and Hollyoaks is huge. Hollyoaks acting and writing isn't the best compared to those in the other two big soaps, but Hollyoaks deals with the most serious and challenging issues frequently imo. Whilst sometimes "unrealistic" to us, they still try. It's not a bad soap, its mediocre and I have to give it to the actors as they obviously try hard.

We love Hollyoaks and its so deserved to win best soap award, long overdue. Its got great cast, storylines and brilliant special effects. Two things tho for all to think about - 1. Do you ever go into your local shop like PRICE SLICE and see a huge stand all full of just VO5 Hair Products !!! Like over promoted or what ! and 2. In the village you live does everyone have the same phone like they do in Hollyoaks like the NOKIA LUMIA just in different colours but all the cast have the same phone !!!

Scott Jennings Cos it is on at half past 6 on channel 4, put in on at 8pm on ITV and it would get a shed load more viewers, thoroughly deserved, if somewhat unexpected win

Hollyoaks are no where near as good enough as the primary soaps like Corrie, EastEnders and Emmerdale, although I do watch Hollyoaks I just thought they weren't as good then but they are regaining a status now as one of the primary soaps and they deserve more viewings they only get 2 million viewings

I stopped watching eastenders in 2013 because I found it boring but I carried on watching hollyoaks and you are right but I don't watch corrie or emmerdale they aimed for older people

Eddy Johnson not necessarily, I watch Corrie and Emmerdale and I am 15, just because Corrie was created in 1960 and Emmerdale in '72, young people watch them as well, like EastEnders they were created in 1985 but older people still watch it (probably)

hollyoaks really has been improving i had stopped watching eastenders a bit ago because the storylines were so boring and long so i started to watch hollyoaks and it has never failed to impress :) i have gotten back to watching eastenders though

Hollyoaks should've won Best British Soap at the 2008 ceremony if it won the most awards. And it would've won the same award at the 2013 ceremony if only Coronation Street won it at the 2011 ceremony and Emmerdale won it at the 2012 ceremony rather than EastEnders in the first place. Then alternatively, Emmerdale's Dominic Power would've won Villain of the Year and Coronation Street would've won Best British Soap at the 2014 ceremony.

WOW 😳! The other Soaps must've been having really bad years if Hollyoaks could win! I'm surprised 😳 coz I wouldn't imagine that it has less loyalty from its fans than any other soap? I suppose scheduling is a bit of a problem for Hollyoaks too. It's probably on at a bit of a dodgy time, and I don't know 🤷‍♀️ if it's still considered a teenage soap or not? I should think 💭 its audience includes a lot of people who aren't teenagers anymore like myself but beating Eastenders and Coronation Street is a real coup! A lot of the time I despair at how rubbishy the stories are in the big two and even though sometimes Hollyoaks has slightly wild 😜 and "out there, " storylines it's often a lot more interesting. It's getting harder to tell the difference between so many of the Soaps now. All the actors are hopping about between different programs so much now , you almost don't know which 📺 TV show you're watching and none of them are that much better than the other ones.

This a total joke. They have the worst writing out of all teh soaps. I think most of us kind of liked it because the bias against everything which is not Eastenders is too much, and this was nice for a change. But the fact that a much bigger and better soap like Emmerdale doesn´t win anything normally (just like Hollyoaks) and then all of a sudden they won best soap last year... lol hilarious. I read somewhere a multiple vote fraud was taken into account or something.
