The talk of temp blanket variations gave me an idea: temperature pillow cover! could do monthly ones, so around 30 rows per pillow, and then each season you have a set of 4 pillows to decorate with.

When I first started knitting forever ago I remember a lady told me, "there's only two stitches, the knit stitch and the purl stitch. And every pattern you see is just those two stitches combined" Made me so much more relaxed about the whole knitting thing, and so much in awe of how much can be accomplished when you bring it down to just those two stitches. Love your youtube and I cannot wait to see what 2025 brings!

The knitting prediction 😅 I'm a long time crocheter, and forever held some kind of spite to knitters because of a few times getting looked down on for getting high quality yarn for "only crochet". I vowed to not knit.... but I recently joined a knit group that welcomes every form of fiber art and I thoroughly enjoy their outlook and company. So this year my New Year's Resolution is to learn to knit socks!

Happy New Year! (And hi Tilly!) I actually learned to knit first when I was a kid because my mom knew how to knit. I struggled with trying to get tension right in crochet for years before I finally got the hang of it in 2020. I like how much faster crochet is but some stuff (socks!) I think work better with knitting. I'm glad I can do both because they're both useful for different looks and creations.

A couple years ago, I started making temperature lap blankets, making five in a year. While I start off with a set color scheme, after 72 days, when it’s time to start the second blanket, I sometimes switch it up just slightly depending on the yarn that is in my stash. While it is something that is a year-long project, because it is broken up into five separate projects, I don’t get bored with it.

If you want yarn origin stories, I have one for you. About 11-ish years ago, when Rainbow Loom bands got real popular, I bought some to mainly see if I could make a bracelet -- which worked, and I wound up making LOTS of bracelets, phone pouches, watch bands....then I ended up switching jobs and my current job we aren't allowed to wear bracelets, so mu rubber band bracelets got less and less use. One day, I wanted to try yarn crafts, so I go a cheap loom set and yarn at Walmart, and to this day I am a very avid loom knitter. In recent years, I tried learning needle knitting (which hasn't taken) and crochet (all I've been able to crochet so far is 2 plushies with amigarumi kits - one in the redheart one, which I altered by using a bigger hook and thicker yarn, and the other being The Woobles, and both I think turned out really well. I would like to acquire more crochet skills to do more (I like crochet's increase stitch more than loom knitting's increase), and maybe add needle knitting too

Micro crochet temperature bookmarks are a go to gift for my reader friends and their children! 30 rows is plenty for a bookmark if you work it longways. My dog tried to kiss ur cat on the tv 😂 it was super cute. I love making wareables and yes it's scary to begin with but find some nice beginner friendly patterns and go to it! You will quickly learn your size. For example I've made enough sweaters that I know I need roughly 60 chains across from shoulder to shoulder with a 5mm hook. That means I can now grab yarn and just start making myself something. You will get there too 😊

I have a lot of crochet thread so i am making granny squares into cornucopia ornaments. You can hang them on your Christmas tree and put candy in them. But if you have cats or dogs, you may have to find something else. Instead of a temp blanket, make a scarf. Start small when you start crochet. Don't start with a big project. Dish cloths are easy and something you can use. Just be sure you use the right kind of yarn. Dishcloth needs cotton yarn.

I definitely see a rise in utilitarian projects! People are watching their bank accounts carefully, so people will be making fewer purely whimsical things that just sit around and more useful things like clothing, bags, kitchen items, etc. I think people are also leaning toward decluttering right now, so creating things that are potential clutter or that people don't know what to do with will slack off.

I crochet, knit, loom knit, sew, bead and do paper crafts (and bake & cook), and I do it because the cost of living means I can't always afford to purchase from stores. I'm also part of a charity crochet & knit group, and we make items so people stay alive (preprem clothes for hospitals awa for those less fortunate, eg school kids, families, the elderly) - we don't really worry about trends. Most of the things I make - knitting, loom knitting, crochet & sewing - are wearables. We do make toys for creches, children with special needs & kids in crisis etc (a local trauma center gives every child a toy to hold). I use the craft best suited for a project, often using a mix of crafts (i.e. fusion projects). There are pros & cons for all craft types, and some crafts may suit certain people more than others. Crochet / knit blankets can be impractical to wash & dry so I like to make crochet fusion blankets - these have a fabric square core (consisting of a top decorative layer, a soft backing / lining, and a batting in the center) about the size of a large granny square with a blanket stitch border, and joined together like a crochet blanket. These fusion blankets are lighter and easier to wash / dry, and can be put together relatively quickly & easily, don't require much equipment (the fabric squares can be hand sewn) nor require a high skill level - and are relatively cheap. The winter warmer sets I make usually include a hat, fingerless gloves, and a cowl, snood or a short infinity scarf (rather than overly long scarf). I am intrigued by granny square jerseys & ponchos etc but have yet to make one - on my "to do list" for 2025.

If you look back on vintage craft publications, you see these cycles. At times everything is very utilitarian. Then it goes to more fanciful forms, then it dies down a lot for a while. Then it comes back with a fresh face. I think the amigarumi craze was more light hearted and fun. But the young people who have filled out the ranks of crafters over the last ten years are starting theirnown households so projects that bring a sense of provision and frugal elegance will be more popular for several years.

I started out knitting and didn't take up crochet till I was 30. I do hand knitting, not machine. I did buy 1 and tried a hat, but I prefer by hand with needles. Crochet is great for blankets and bigger projects, I prefer knitting for socks and kids clothes ❤

1. It took me 25 years to learn crochet. I started knitting when I was about 10 but could never pick up crochet until like 2020 when my mom begged me to make a shawl that was crochet. 2. Crochet definitely makes my joints hurt more than knitting but if I knit for too long I can/will dislocate my thumbs, it just takes longer than crochet. For my predictions: I hope "usable" plushies become bigger. I make a bunny phone holder that I love.
