"Dancing Bear" is one of my favorite Mamas and Papas tracks. Great lead vocal by Denny Doherty and imaginative use of "classical " woodwinds.

Fun fact, at 41:12, the brief shot of the band in silhouette is actually with Jill Gibson and not Michelle. Notice John isn't wearing a hat. There are pictures from the original taping w/ Jill, but after Michelle rejoined the group, they went back and reshot the songs with her. Alas, this is the only brief glimpse we get of the Mamas and the Papas with Jill.

Miss Lola Falana still living at age 75. George Burns had lost his wife Gracie in 1964 when she was aged 69; George here is about aged 70 or so with still another 30 years of entertainment success still ahead of him. He never really retired from show business. After the Burns & Allen TV show ended, he would make guest appearances, headline in Vegas, and enjoyed a film career resurgence in the 80s with "The Sunshine Boys" and the "Oh God" movies (3) with John Denver. He died in 1996 at aged 100.

Jane Marsh turned in a lovely rendition of Mimi's Act 1 aria from LA BOHEME, with gorgeous backing by Mitchell Ayres and the Hollywood Palace Orchestra.

I get it.. This was ABC version of Ed Sullivan. The variety shows of yesterday were very popular and could never be done today with the internet/social media platforms of today. I enjoyed the variety shows because you got just that a variety of entertainment something the whole family could sit down together and enjoy!!! Lola F. " Here comes the Tigeress"! was a great performer, smart and pretty, who knew several languages. Loved her performance on this one and enjoyed the Opera singer, Jane Marsh. Thanks for these timeless uploads or post!

Bings voice has really dropped. His only 61/62 but his voice has slid right down the scale. Pleasant still, just not that strong. And poor old George Burns looks about 108 even here.

Bing was a baritone who just happened have an extraordinary lower range. He was capable of hitting and sustaining low notes one would usually expect basses to sing.
