@Brutha Dnubian If they were at home that night there is a good chance that they did watch. In those days we only had 3 channels. NBC, CBS and ABC. This was on ABC Saturday nights. Also, with so few black people on TV in those days, it was a treat whenever someone like Diahann Carroll was on.

Splendid and very entertaining show. That's when audiences at home were given quality entertainment. Diahann Carroll was (and still is) so beautiful and talented. By the way, has anyone else noticed a very young Cheryl Tiegs (the model) at 21:28 (the Ultra Brite commercial)?

Diahann and some other acts were touches of class in the usual 60s cornball variety show. And isn't she easy on the eyes... with each costume change she gets lovelier.

Digging the early footage of Judith J. years before she became Creative Director of Alvin Ailey. I have seen AA twice, once when I was child and the other as an adult. Both of these dance numbers I have seen performed live on stage by other AA dancers. Sidelines note: I heard when Madonna first came to NYC, she was a dancer with AA for their second dance company, she was either fired of left because Madge is who she is!!! Stevie Wonder before he became the "Music of Mind" and "Intervision" guy, his earlier performance pale in comparison to later when he started to do his own thing with the band, back up singers, jamming, doing his own more creative/innovative music. DC was very pretty here and I was a big fan of the series Julia as a child. That dress she wore at the end needs to make a comeback, it was a gorgeous looking dress!!! "What's this hear sauce"! LMAO!!!

Yes, Diahann Carroll is ridiculously beautiful; Unfortunately, the songs they selected for her to sing for this show were not really in her wheelhouse; for a better example of her singing talent check out the KZbin of the Diahann Carroll show with guest Sammy Davis Jr. singing Porgy and Bess from 1976. And speaking of skills what about that crazy juggler Rudi Schweitzer? As a testament to Diahann's abundant talent, even though the TV opportunities for blacks back in the 60's were few and far between she managed to land her own variety show and TV series.

Viewing this because of the sad news of her passing. What an incredible bit of history here. And quite a chance to see how much our culture has changed. The commercials are laughable in their stereotypical roles...cleaning is done by women only...in dresses and pumps! How refreshing to see Robert Culp quoting Thomas Payne. Back in the day people knew who Thomas Payne was. Reading TP without any typical Hollywood leftist America-hatred. Reading from Poor Richards Almanac without browbeating the audience about America's founding by slaveowners? Unheard of!
