@@deannafoster9721No, we need affordable housing solutions! A place in Vancouver has offered small studio apartments for only $1250 a month and huge common areas. That’s super cheap rent for your own space, even if it is small. America needs to invest heavily in small studio apartments for the working homeless who can’t afford to live where they work. I currently average 3-4k a month, I need a studio that costs about $1000 otherwise I cannot comfortably afford rent. Cant even qualify for a basic studio with this income. Getting approved for roommate situations is also difficult and time consuming and often leads to drama. I’m telling you, as someone who is chronically homeless and is employed most of the time, this is the #1 solution to the housing crisis. Affordable apartments that pretty much any working citizen can comfortably afford and qualify for. Homeless shelters, insane asylums, halfway homes, etc is not what the homeless want. People just want their own small little oasis to call their own. Why else do you think so many homeless prefer a tent or car over the spider ridden, disease spreading homeless shelters? We don’t want a shared housing situation with a ton of questionable strangers and a tall list of rules and curfews.

What they wont tell you is how Reagan not only defunded mental health in the U.S., releasing 10's of thousands of mentally ill people from institutions in the 80s, but his trickle down policies and deregulation of the finance industry has created a two-tier economy. One where all the economic growth goes to the rich, and the rest of us will slowly end up poor, homeless, and unable to pay bills on a 40 hour a week job. This was ALL by design. Our economy has a new name; Casino Capitalism. And it benefits those closest to the money supply; the financial industry.

That's the politicians' job. These so-called "public servants" are supposed to clean up the streets. Most homeless people just want handouts and don't wanna work, so the city should force them on the outskirts of town. Reserve the housing for the homeless with jobs or families.

I lived in Studio City during the pandemic, and a parking lot turned into a Homeless TOWN. They were building two story STRUCTURES out of wood pallets. One guy built a carport for his stretch limousine that he lived in. Once I took a photo of the place and a guy pulled a knife on me and ordered me to leave. Another time I took a photo from my car and a woman threw a bottle at me. They just throw all their garbage on the ground, even when a trash can is there. They use their trash like a FENCE to keep others away.

Just look at the state of those tents, what do you think will happen to an apartment given to one of these people? I’ll tell you In less than one hour flat, they’ll have the entire drywall ripped apart and the copper piping stolen in order to pay for their next fix. This is exactly why there’s a ton of vacant rooms on East Hastings st, Vancouver Canada, since it requires drug testing and random searches to stay in one.

I’m not unsympathetic to the homeowners but what was the expectation when you cleared the encampment without providing any replacement to what they had? These are people, not leaves. People need shelter, access to food and hygiene products, transportation. All homes produce waste that must be transported. I’m not saying that all of these needs have to be met free of any charge to everyone, just that if not provided in some form somewhere else, people will attempt to do it themselves and the camps will return. Clearing them without a plan for afterwards is pointless.

What really upsets me about the reporting as you discuss homeless encampments as if they are the problem, not the fact that people are forced to live this way. Was just reading how very few get help when they were cleared out tell me that isn’t true. Many of the homeless are elderly and in severe pain or suffering from dementia they need a cozy bed and a cup of tea not to be treated like they are less than animals and talked about like they are trash.

Many could live in shelters but they choose to live on the street instead. People are complaining about the government, particular California. No matter how you slice it, California is a very rich state yet they have all these homeless out on the streets. Supposedly such a caring govt, but they have the very rich and the starving poor living on the street. Hypocrisy seems very strong in the California govt. This is important to the entire country as California likes to be a showcase state on the future of Democrat rule. Can't say it looks very impressive. How could such a rich state be so poorly run?
