That’s my favorite Pumpkins track ever.

Soma is good. But this is the single greatest piece of music ever composed. Put it on, turn it all the way up and close your eyes. The opening draws you in with the lullaby, then the guitars and drums explode like the intial drop on a roller coaster ride. The lyrics tap into your feelings, swirling your emotions, taking you up and down the peaks and valleys of that ride. From start to finish it's absolutely amazing!

Also, the other guitarist of The Smashing Pumpkins, James Iha, was the 2nd guitarist of A Perfect Circle from their second album, “Thirteenth Step” and onward. He’s still in the band til this day. I saw him live with a perfect circle back in 2011 I think... it was right when they first reunited for their first touring since 10,000 days came out and APC were on hiatus for like 6 years or so.

Gish in its entirety is amazing. In Snail Billy’s voice perfectly matches with the guitar when he sings “siren, snail” and it’s fantastic. Daydream is D’Arcy singing, always good, and hot damn the bass and drums on the entire album is great.

Billy actually wrote everything! Guitar, bass, lyrics, all of it. A lot of times, even recording all those parts in tge studio. Except drums. So, if you're not listening to a live recording, then it's likely him playing the entirety of the song with Jimmy Chamberlain on drums. This song tho, he and the other guitarist, James Iha wrote this together as teenagers in the mid-late 80s. On this album, Billy is credited with writing all the songs, as he is with everything the Smashing Pumpkins released, except two. Mayonaise and Soma, which happen to be by far the best two on the album. He's def a genius, but also a bit of an egomaniac and control freak, which is what caused so much conflict in the band. Ultimately leading to their dismantle. Plus, he's always had this big thing about not being the "cliche" drug addicted rock star, and took serious issue on the subject with band members too. That's why Jimmy left after Melancholy(double album), he and their touring keyboardist had been doing heroin and the keyboardist died. That's why the next album went all synthy. Similar issue with D'arcy, she loved her some cocaine. That, combined with Billy's obsessive need to control everything, and she walked. She's the only to have never returned. They officially disbanded after the album in 2000. Billy and Jimmy got back together the Zwan project, an absolutely incredible album from start to finish, and when they brought back the Smashing Pumpkins in 07-08. James was in A Perfect Circle for awhile, has done some solo and been on and off with the Pumpkins from time to time. Cool fact, the bassist for Zwan was Paz Lenchantin, an originally with A Perfect Circle, and currently with Pixies. If you've ever seen the video for APC's very first single "Judith" she's the hot chick that ties up her hair during the brief guitar solo; which is entirely focused on her, She finishes, grabs the pick from her mouth and perfectly hits the next chord in one smooth motion to continue playing the song. It's pretty bad ass.

I would like to second the idea of reacting to Smashing Pumpkins on the regular. You don't need to set out a whole day like you do for Tool or Babymetal unless you want to but I love Smashing Pumpkins and I think they fit the type of music that you guys seem to like. I would suggest Cherub Rock (one of the greatest album opening songs of all time), Porcelina of the Vast Oceans, Zero, and Silverfuck for some of their '90s masterpieces and Song for a Son, Freak U.S.A., Owata, or Oceania for their newer stuff (which I think is great even through it doesn't include the masterful guitar work of James Iha).
