Man that motor gave the TRX-4 some punch! How do you think that setup will do compared to a brushless sensored setup? I'm running Castle Mamba X and a 2280kv sensored motor, how will that compare..? Maybe a good video for the future, a good brushed motor setup vs a good brushless. Compare crawlability, speeds, low-speed controls, battery life +++
@ExocagedRC5 жыл бұрын
This is a great economy step up but it won't match a Castle or even an Axe brushless motor setup.
@sickpuppy80775 жыл бұрын
@@ExocagedRC I see. But a lot of people in different online communitys tells me that the brushless systems never will be as controlable at low crawling speeds as a good brushed system. Do you agree? I would love to see someone making a good video on that subject, using a good brushed system up against a mamba x and a low-ish kv sensored system.
@ExocagedRC5 жыл бұрын
The brushed systems are still a tiny bit smoother at the very very low end of the rpm, but it’s so minor it’s almost non existent. The Axe is insanely smooth and quiet, the castle stuff is awesome smooth but a bit noisy. I usually KV and it Volt up and gear down most everything I have and I place well or win a lot and the only two vehicles I have that are brushed for comps are a Tamiya CC01 and a redcat Gen7 and that’s because the Gen7 is a spec class that requires brushed only.

Holmes hobbies has best brushed motors. Want brushless but brushed is so cheap. I have a 550 21t I am testing out.
@JViello5 жыл бұрын
Expected yes, but it's nice and helpful to see exactly what it would do in real time. Thanks for putting it there for everyone to see for themselves. What would be nice is to see the control difference between the two and not just top speed. How slow can each go, how smooth are they when going from a loaded position to free I.E. climbing over a steep rock and the front wheels get free. Some motors have what I call a slingshot effect. The bushes saturate and then unload all at once making the truck lurch ahead. Just some input for future videos. Look forward to seeing future content.
@ExocagedRC5 жыл бұрын
JViello the lurch effect is lack of torque on the motor, you have to pull the trigger farther with a weaker motor and once it gets past the resistance it lurches. The 12t is good when geared down, the 21t trailmaster is a bit better. Holmes has some new 5-slot Crawlmaster Sport motors in 540 and 550 size, I have them but haven’t had a chance to record them yet.
@JViello5 жыл бұрын
@@ExocagedRC Exocaged RC The effect you're talking about indeed does happen. What I'm talking about is when throttle position doesn't change and the motor gets loaded up and even if you let off the throttle 100% it's going to "lurch" as the brushes are saturated and all those ions need to go somewhere. :-D John H has talked about the phenom a few times as well and how it's just what cheap low turn motors tend to do when trying to crawl slow.
@ExocagedRC5 жыл бұрын
JViello interesting. I’ll have to see if he made a video on that. I always just attributed it to a weak motor and more throttle input needed to clear stuff. It’s one reason I have been doing brushless and gearing way down so it clears stuff easier. Now the Axe system is a whole different story there. I do like those quite a bit.
@JViello5 жыл бұрын
@@ExocagedRC Haha, I totally agree with that mindset. Gear down, volt up! I'd run a 4 or 6s if my HW 1080 would let me. LOL Hmmm, but I do have some nice brushless ESC's in my 1/8 and 1/5 bashers...and some outrunners from my flying days. Now you got me thinking. LOL The last time I can remember him talking about it was I think the vid when he put a Crawlmaster Pro 550 into the Gen8. I remember that because I experienced the same lurch with my stock Gen8 550 as he did.
