I agree, the obd1 thing is frustrating... I could mess around with the m3. There's always the option of converting to obd2... But buying all new sensors makes my wallet wrinkle.

Hey mate, your videos have helped me so much + been great entertainment. Just a couple questions, I tried to find out about wiring the obd2 port under glovebox from ews. If you'd have a link or anything to that ,that would be great! And I am having trouble setting up my logger to work on romraider, can read write flash etc but when I open the log it just says " initialising" Cheers from Australia
@ManSeeksCivic Жыл бұрын
Hi Australia! The wiring for the obd port is fairly simple - you need to connect +12v, Kline and Ground - these are all available behind the glove box - the kline is purple/white, gnd and power can be found with a multimeter. The RomRaider forum is the best resource for more details. As for the logger - this can be a little more flaky, firstly you will probably need the cabin port - the 20pin connector is wired with the injector loom in the engine bay and thus suffers from interference. Once you've got the cabin port wired this whole process will be easier.

Dude love your videos, great work! Kind regards Simon (a happy E36 328i convertible owner) BTW you were my inspiration, yet don't have space to do things myself so will have to pay to get things done - I guess perk of living in a flat) I'm struggling to find the right scanner to read thoughts including ABS module. Any thoughts, advice, or help would be appreciated?

Thanks. Check out "tiny ads" connector. It can allow you to connect inpa to the 36.

@@ManSeeksCivic What a quick reply! Just ordered one from the US so hopefully won't be more than a month to arrive, plus finally, my old Dell laptop will be put to use :D I'm going have to do my rocket cover gasket soon along with coils and sparks as it sips oil (haven't noticed oil loss over the last 3k miles since the last oil change but it sips). It is an odd location as it seems from the corner of the driver side near the side of the VANOS but will also get VANOS gaskets too. In terms of VANOS rebuild is it difficult? I always did basic maintenance myself oil, filters, breaks, suspension, etc. myself but VANOS seems like a thing I could possibly mess up. Car is only 68K on a clock with an automatic gearbox which seems very smooth (touch wood). Cheers!
@ManSeeksCivic3 жыл бұрын
The vanos rebuild is easier than it looks. The "besian" guide is excellent and will keep you on the right track.

Unfortunately, it is very easy to buy the wrong head bolts for M52 Aluminum blocks. M52 aluminum bolts are quite a bit longer than their cast iron counterparts. Be very careful to compare your original head bolts to your new head bolts and make sure they match in length. Most vendors will state that the m50 bolts will fit the m52 engine because there is a m52 iron variant. I suspect using M50 / m52 cast iron head bolts is the number one reason threads strip out. Not saying this what happened here but be very careful when selecting your head bolts. (or reuse your old bolts)

nice one, went through that process in 2017 :) dont be afraid of flashing in the car, i did the full flash with the charger on. How are you connecting the Wideband? Serial on the Laptop that Romraider Logger can see directly?
@ManSeeksCivic4 жыл бұрын
I flash the partials in the car, the wideband does run thru that serial cable direct to RomRaider. Useful for. Logging afr along with the rest of the outputs 👍

@@ManSeeksCivic ah ok, looking into an WBO2 right now, but i would like to do it through the ecu via one of the unused rear O2s. Wasnt aware that you could actually combine the Data in the Logger. bloody great vid !!!! well done !! quick Q i have an MS43 M54B30 in a E30 and want to convert it to alpha N and delete the MAF (as its quite restrictive) do you think it would be fairly easy todo via romraider ? cheers !
@ManSeeksCivic3 жыл бұрын
Thanks 👍
@ManSeeksCivic3 жыл бұрын
Yes it would be simple with the tools RomRaider provides. Tuning it would still be up to you, but the maps are defined in Ms41 for alphaN so I would assume they are for the M54 too.

Hi mate. Few questions if you don't mind answering. I now have my m50b30 stroker built and running, thanks to your videos for all the help.. Now I am looking to tune the ms41 ecu, I am using ms41 flash tool and romraider.. now my question is when using romraider to log the data how did you get the correct definition file, also what ecu are you using, I have an ms41 861 ecu so need the logger definition file for that..

That's a bosch Dme car, the only way to tune these is to desolder the chip and write it in an eeprom reader. Much harder sadly.
@moddingjr77973 жыл бұрын
Sorry if I’m late to this but when you update the firmware to ms41.2 did you find a bin of someone else’s car and did you just get there full read or both?
@ManSeeksCivic3 жыл бұрын
You write a full read of the usm3 file, then adjust your partial real to suit. For example, with the euro 328i you would write the usm3 full then retune the fuel tables for the 328i, adjust the knock tables for the alloy block and so on.
@moddingjr77973 жыл бұрын
@@ManSeeksCivic just a question after the flash could I just write a tuned partial I have previous to MS41.2 ?
@ManSeeksCivic3 жыл бұрын
You can copy the tuned parts of your Ms41.0 file over to the Ms41.2 new partial but you must not copy a tuned Ms41.0 partial onto the Ms41.2 full - that will brick the dme.

hi there i have a 1996 e36 328i automatic(m52b28, ZF 5hp18 green tag)EURO or german version(non usa car) i was wondering what hardware and software should i use for diagnostics and coding(i am in a cruise control retrofit process), since some people told me that it has obd2 and it could be different from the process shown in the video(the software and hardware part) and if i'ts the same can i code on this method(hardware not software wise)? and what software could i use to do that? any help would be appreciated! thanks for the video anyway! Cheers!
@ManSeeksCivic3 жыл бұрын
If it has the Siemens dme and sensors you can use the setup I have here because it will use the Ms41 software. The only difference will be the connection, you will have to use the 20 pin plug under the bonnet to connect to the cars dme.
@SonyPsp088883 жыл бұрын
@@ManSeeksCivic thanks for the reply! what about software wise? for diagnostics and coding. for the connection can i use a K+DCAN cable with a 20pin adapter to obd2 port cable? and again thanks for the raply!

Yes, although I haven't ventured into coding the modules. My interest was purely for remapping so can't offer a lot of information otherwise.
