Homr Free is truly a rare breed. They left the machine of major labels so they could do the type of music they want to do the way they want to do it. And they are just phenomenal at honoring the original songs and musicians. They always do what is best for the music and leave the rest up to the fans. And we love them for it.

The haunting harmonies sent chills to my bones. They completely captured the essence of a dying soldier on the battlefield and the seriousness of the message. Tim and Chance look like ghostly spirits in front of the windows. This sticks with you.

This video by many consider this an A Capella masterpiece. The harmonies are just unsurpassed. Three other songs HF has done in 5 part harmonies which are all excellent is Auld Lang Syne, the New Years song which would be fitting to do this time of year, How Great Thou Art, and Helplessly Hoping.

I showed this video to my older classes (4&5 grade/ 9-11 year olds) for Veteran's Day (Armistice Day.) I did a whole Home Free Veteran's Day video series for their classes. They listened to My Country Tis of Thee first, followed by Go Rest High the Mountain, Brother's in Arms, then God Bless the USA. There were very few dry eyes and it sparked some really good discussions.

They sing quite a few patriotic songs, but this one just brings the world together, with the loss of all our fallen. The fighting together, taking care of each other in the horrors of war, till the the only thing left is the devestating loss on all sides and the sadness that we seem to never learn. One of my favorites of theirs. It’s a beautiful song and Dire Straits version is guitar driven where this is voice driven. Home Free is amazing. They can all sing. Loved Tim’s low notes. You guys nailed the reaction to this one. The visuals, as you say, support the understanding of the lyrics to perfection, it adds context to the story. The harmonies set the mood, and the precision in the execution of the vocals keep you connected to the message. Home free doesn't distract you from the song with unnecessary fluff. They are all about letting the music and lyrics shine with their own light, but HF style. I have seen others recommend "Helplessly Hoping" and "How Great Thou Art" for unfettered harmony, but How Great Thou Art has the only (that I know of) solo that Adam Rupp (the beat boxer) has ever done. The video is perfection, but it was a pleasant surprise to discover that Adam can sing as well as produce drum and a gazillion other accompaniments for the group.

I know Christmas has ended, but I strongly recommend "Do you hear what I hear" and " O" Holy Night" by Home Free. Just amazing! I also agree with others that say, listen with earphones or ear buds. You miss a lot of, well everything, without them! Just a suggestion.

So glad you found Home Free and are sharing your journey. I would recommend listening to Home Free with headphones (and all a cappella) - they program certain sounds only on one side or move from side to side and you can hear more of the softer sounds like that amazing bass. You should also check out their more funny (and fun) songs like Butt's Remix and Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget (which Tim, the bass, wrote).

I’m a new Home Fry sub from the Southern part of America. I absolutely loved your reaction to this one! It really is top notch from them! I’m so glad you really appreciate their talent and recognize that many mainstream music artists don’t come near the talent these five men have! I believe KZbin is the new form of radio where lesser known, bet equal or better talent is discovered through reactor channels such as yours. That would be one of the very few good things that came out of the world wide health pandemic. These guys put out videos almost every week or every two weeks during quarantine/lockdown time. II think part of Home Free's genius in a lot of videos is their simplicity - they let the music, harmonies & lyrics speak for themselves. Adam Rupp doesn't beatbox in this (he's singing harmony with the others) and in some songs - especially hymns - Home Free doesn't have beatboxing. They're always respectful of the song and - when there is another artist, that artist. When one of their collaborators asked how they wanted him to sing it, they told him however he wanted to - that they'd adapt to him.

There's reason why people keep recommending that you wear headphones. When it comes to a cappella, the headphones will pick up the low bass and the beatboxing better or clearer. However, if you're using a great sound system that picks these up, please disregard.

just subscribed because i love me some new homefries! i thought their cover of this song was very reverent. if you didn't already know home free is very patriotic and very supportive of our troops and they have no fear of showing it. if you want their fun side you should checkout the butts medley, champagne on a beer budget(a tim foust original) and can't stop the feeling. also for fun checkout tim foust's vibration video, it's crazy P.S.you REALLY need headphones
