I am old enough to remember when Dire Straits released this song in 1985. It was a very powerful song that was inspired by the 1982 conflict over the Falkland Islands in 1982. I find this cover to be exceptionally well done and the message is just as powerful for me today as it was years ago. Schnell. your reaction is beautiful and I believe perfectly captures the impact this song has as a tribute to fallen soldiers of all nations and times. Thank you.

I'm old enough to remember the song, but sadly I was only this week's old before I actually researched into Falkland's "war", and then aligned what I learned with the verses... and the meaning became so much.... deeper. Of course you can transplant this song to any era... but when you align it to the real events from which the words were penned... just wow.... double wow. How ironic that Home Free gives color to Mark's song, while showing the video in B&W

@@debaliol Interesting that you drew that conclusion from the words that I wrote. I MORE than get the meaning of the words of this song as I have lived it, while many of my friends no longer live at all. You partially get it, but not fully. Of course, as you have proven, the same words mean different things to different people. Thank you for your comment that proves exactly what I wrote. Good day.

@@weavbo I deleted the comment, because it was wrong. I started off writing and and then it got really long and I moved to a text editor and then copy/pasted it back into youtube, but it looks like a messed that up and it posted the initial thoughts. I tried to edit the comment to put in the text I wanted to right but it will not let me edit the comment, it reverts back to the original text. I wanted to say that I do not think that anyone that has not gone through it will ever truly get it. I try for my family and friends that have gone through it, but I know that I will never feel and experience what they feel. I am not sure if I am envious that you have that understanding that I know I never will have, or sorry that you have had to have those experiences that create that understanding. It really does highlight the TRUE meaning of 'Blood is thicker than water', or as the full quote is 'The blood of covenant is thicker than the waters of birth.' Again I am sorry that the wrong thing got posted, I was actually trying to agree with you and then the KZbin demons messed it up for me.

Schnell ! Good to see you react to this. I knew that you are an artist yourself, and would appreciate this from an artist's point of view. I never thought that Home Free would/could top Helplessly Hoping, but they just did. These guys truly embrace their art fully. They can be silly goofs like in Workin' for a livin" but they also are capable of putting out incredibly seriously beautiful music such as brothers in arms.

Schnell, this was an A Capella masterpiece. I believe it is their finest performance to date and the visuals in the video were just as brilliant. This, imo surpasses their cover of Helplessly Hoping which also is a 5 part harmony with no beatboxing in it as well. I see in your HF playlist you have yet to react to it, so you may want to check it out. Again, it captures their tight harmonies and their arrangement is amazing.

This song was inspired by the Falklands War, which was going on when Dire Straits lead singer Mark Knopfler wrote the song. The Falklands War was a conflict between Argentina and the UK over islands off the coast of Argentina that each country claimed rights to. The islands are British territories, but in 1982 Argentina tried to reclaim one of the islands. Britain reclaimed their territories, but lost 258 soldiers in the conflict. In this song, Mark Knopfler sings about a soldier who is dying on the battlefield, surrounded by his comrades, who remain by his side as he slips away.

Home Free has the unique skill and talent of taking a song and infuse the meaning of the song into every single part of it. How they pronounce and deliver the words, the tones of their voices, the harmonies, the arrangement, the video. Every single part oozes of the meaning they want to deliver with the song. This arrangement was by a Finnish acapella group called Club For Five with tweaks by Tim. It's brilliant. Thanks for the reaction, Schnell. 🥰🙏 You are glowing, btw. 🥰

Bob S, I thank you for your Service in the Army. You may never see this but I saw you your reply and felt compelled to comment out of respect for what you have contributed and experienced as a combat veteran. There is no way I can fully understand the emotional impact of this song for you. I can tell that you clearly know the origins of this song and the message it conveys to any soldier who has experienced the trauma of combat. The fact that you replied to Schnell's reaction video says a lot about how well she recognized and acknowledged the seriousness of this song and Home Free's performance. This song hits hard for me every time I listen and I applaud Schnell for respecting the spirit of the song and performance. I sincerely hope that someday you are in an emotional place where you will be able to "listen" to this Home Free version and maybe take comfort that there actually are people on this earth that appreciate the pain and sacrifice that soldiers endure. My best wishes to you and thanks to Schnell for her reaction.

One thing that seems to be hard for a lot of civilians to understand is how much military personnel HATE war. The last thing a soldier, Sailor, Airman, Marine, or Coast Guardsman, EVER wants to do is to be called upon to kill. Unfortunately, politicians make those decisions. Our duty is to carry out their decisions and directions. I was blessed with nearly 8 years of relatively peaceful duty, with only a few exceptions: Grenada, and Lebanon (Marine Barracks attack). And I have never been under fire, except in a training scenario. This song is about those that went, did their duty and left their lives on that battlefield. Thank you for sharing your review and reaction, your emotion and love are appreciated.

Schnell I'm a Vietnam veteran with two tours and I must say it's a blessing and a curse. I'm 100% Disabled. The military builds you up to think that you're special and when you get out, not so much. But the VA does help with my housing and I have a greater case worker. And, yes I do get my meds free, but sometimes we just need so much more and the government just doesn't care. My dad served in WWII and he was a P.O.W. when he got out he was only 80% disabled. Before he passed away the VA determined he was 40% disabled. He passed away in 1958 at the age of 42 years old.
