Your observation of the similarity, harmonically, of this piece to the harmonies of "More Than Words" is intriguing. There is a folk-ballad tradition of only lightly instrumented songs (that includes, notably, Simon and Garfunkel), in which the harmonies are the soul of the piece--harmonies that are at one moment simple, and in the next intertwine in unexpected combinations like different-colored threads woven in a tapestry. I personally love these songs, in which the driving bass beat an dover-loud instrumentation are absent, and do not obscure the pure and pristine power of precise and provocative chords.
