We started our pantry during the financial crisis back in 2008. My husband and I were working for the same company, different departments. Every day, we went into work and found that fellow workers were let go. We survived but swore we would never get caught again. It has taken us all this time and we now have accomplished our goal of a year's supply of food. I can't tell you how many times we used the pantry so we could pay for car repairs or medical bills. It is a necessity for families today. Really enjoy your channel!

Good morning, nice pantry. I don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet or not, but, you need "black out" curtains in the pantry. The darker The room, the better. The light/sun affects the shelf life of the food

You did a great job showing what "setting aside" groceries looks like. That's what my parents called keeping a pantry stocked. Especially for those of us who don't can things. You even gave me a couple of ideas that I should put into action. And no need to explain why stuff may not be so neat. I can tell you really use that room! Love your organization system.😊

So glad you are prepared...great job, Im going to follow in your footsteps. One suggestion: On most sites share the importance of purchasing dark curtains for your pantries. The daylight/heat affects the temperature of the food, and can cause it to lose its nutritional value quicker, even cause it to spoil quicker. Thanks for your video

I have a problem with pasta storage with bugs, so I take it out of the box and put it in gallon size freezer bags then back in the box or in food grade buckets. Freezer bags because it's a little more thick and sturdier.
@shaunaleessnackidies Жыл бұрын
I put the year at least on the outside of all cans or packages to see at a glance since some stamps are hard to see/read. A way to carry meals ready to eat on the go in a big bug out bag or several might be a good idea in the event you needed to leave, I know you can’t think of everything, and things like tornados happen etc but we do our best. ❤
@fahinahigby1152 Жыл бұрын
Tip: bugs can’t survive in a container with oxygen removed. As to the pasta. I have never left my pasta in its boxes for long. The nice thing about pasta, it last way longer then you think. I just store pasta in a container or jar and add salt to my container. I’ve stored my pasta this way for years and I’ve never had a problem with bugs.

Just a tip: if you can, remove the air from all those packages. Put it in jars or vacuum seal. If you don’t, they will taste stale. The cake mixing, bread crumbs… it happened to me. Also, corn bread mixing like Jiffy. The taste was not good. It had a bitter aftertaste. Had to throw it out.

Good afternoon Natalie ❤ Hubby and I did some rearranging in our pantry yesterday. It is always a good thing to refresh in your mind what you have on hand and what you need to replace. We still need to go through our storage room where we have our medical/first aid and emergency supplies like batteries, candles, life straws, solar lights and etc. I have never had any problems with bugs either. I store a lot of things in 5 gallon buckets and have 1/2 gallon mason jars in my cupboard in the kitchen. I just have to go downstairs to refill them. I have one of those ??blended mixer thingies that I can't remember what it is called either! I have a a pantry about the same size as you and I love it. I just got my last check today and wont have an income until I find a job. I graduate from college on Friday! I had to go back to school due to a job injury. I am really glad we have a huge pantry and I do not have to worry about food. I buy my pie fillings at the dollar store when I can find it. I also buy shelf milk there! Thank you for sharing!

I thought of the name of the mixer after I filmed lol, it’s a food processor. I’ll forget again I’m sure and just refer to it as the blender thing again the next time I need to say it’s name 😂. Just a quick tip re: canned icing. It makes good fudge in a pinch. Mix whatever flavor you like with a big bag (used to be 12 ounces, not sure now) of baking chips. Melt over low heat and mix in icing (NOT whipped). Add nuts and fruit if desired and pour into lightly greased pan to set. Strawberry icing and white chocolate chips is good. Chocolate icing and peanut butter chips, etc. Since some of it sets really soft (especially if using white chips), I like to pour it into 4-oz. canning jars for individual servings. I did these once for a craft show and sold out.

I sure wish that I could have even half of that room for my pantry. I live in a small apartment but I have been slowly making a pantry for myself. I keep trying to buy things that are on sale or in bulk. I do have my 21 cubic foot upright freezer and my 5.5 cubic foot freezer full. I have 2 large cabinets full of canned goods in my bedroom. Thank you! I'll be honest, the freezers are hard to keep up with and rotate. Boxes with baking mixes do not age well if they use baking powder as an ingredient. Like cornbread, cake, and pancake mixes. It degrades rather quickly. It is better to store cream of tarter and baking soda separately, then mix as needed when baking from scratch. The ratio is 1 to 2. Use 1 tsp of baking soda and 2 tsp of cream of tarter in a small container, then measue what you need for your recipe. The cream of tartar and baking soda have a decades long shelf life.

How do you easily rotate stock? Like say you make chili and use four cans of beans. Do you buy four more next time you shop and how do you get them to the back of your shelving?
@Henleehomestead10 ай бұрын
Yes, that’s exactly what I do, I replace whatever I use. I try to make time to go ahead and move the new cans to back as I shop but sometimes I’ll set them aside if needed for a week or two until I get time. Getting to the back of the shelving can be annoying but I just pull the other to the front as I use them and put the new in the back. They sell products that roll cans forward that you load from the back. I don’t have any but after we’ve finished other goals I may invest in some.

Big tip. Be very careful how you store flour and rice. I had special 25 pound containers. I stocked enuff for five years. Down here in southern texas. It went rancid. Mylar bags didnt work. Sugar is ok. Watch you cake icing also. Cake mixes di not taste good after a year. Also i truely believe canning companies are not making canned goods last any more. After 2 years my cans started to explode. I no longer stock stuff for longer than 2 years. Chocolate chips change color also. Still good but they change color. I like what you did. It looks good. Alot if hard work. Make sure you get canned chicken and tuna. Now that last a while. I also found canned bread and canned whole cheese. Hard to find but good. Medical supplies i have enuff for 5 years. Soaps shampoos stuff like that. Get matches and charcoal before biden takes that away. Enuff talk. You did a great job stocking
