Over the next eight months she got about thirty or forty Speeding tickets. for 1 mile over and others for 3 miles over. And the sheriff wouldn't do anything about it. except throw out her tickets. He asked if they can look at it and I said no...he asked why and I pointed out the trees block that area for the ring to see. In Canada the Supreme Court has ruled that if an officer is in your home, ie. foot in the door, and they do not have a warrant you can tell them to leave. If they do not leave they are committing criminal trespass and you can use reasonable force to remove them from your home. Exigent Circumstances excepted of course.

*Steaglad vs US, 1981* Even if the suspect *IS* in the house, if the suspect doesn't live at that address they can't execute an arrest warrant there. They can only execute an arrest warrant at the address(es) the court has for the person the warrant is for. They can't execute an arrest warrant at a third party's residence. If you have a friend who has a warrant for their arrest, they can't come to YOUR house to arrest them. They'd have to get an arrest warrant to do that. (Or if they see the suspect in public...or worse, you give them consent.)

The cops need a search warrant to effect an arrest warrant, if they suspect that their intended subject/suspect, is inside the house. Absent any other conditions, like exigent circumstances, destruction of evidence, or certain life saving needs cops can not come inor block the door. You have a 4th amendment right under the US Constitution. Without that the cops are on a fishing expedition.

This makes me think back to an encounter I had back in 2001. I was woke up on a Saturday morning by banging on the door. I crawled out of bed looking like, the walking dead. When I opened the door it was two officers. Before they said anything, I quoted Bart Simpson,"I didn't do it, nobody saw me, you can't prove anything." They looked at each other for a moment, scowled, then said why they were there. Apparently a guy ran from them and dropped some stuff in my yard which they wanted to recover. This was an interesting one , the cops walked in an open door , garage door. Yes, you should not open the door (or at least you should have a chain or security door) but what if the door is already open? Don't lose your cool , the cops will use that, keep ordering them to leave then tell them they are trespassing, issue a formal verbal trespass notice. In some states not immediately leaving would become a criminal offense. But don't give them an excuse by getting angry get more patient and more calm!

i feel like it's gotten to the point where front door lights should have two of them. one using a 100 watt bulb. and one using at least 10,000 lumens. something that can't be looked at without permanent eye damage. and it should be mounted to the doorframe, at eye level.

This very reason is why I NEVER open the door to police. I tell them they can talk to me through the door or (if it makes them feel better) through the narrow widow just to the side of the door. They don't like it and claim I'm obligated to open the door but unless they have a warrant, they can talk to the wood.
