Mike, you have officially become the go to Reference level Home Theater KZbin channel. The combination of 150' Cinescope, full Dolby Atmos, monster subs, and now a Reference quality level Native 4k projector. First thing you need to do is download 3.10 firmware update for HDR scene by scene metadata tone mapping. To all those who got all giddy over the upgrade to JTR Captivator subs you need to know that Mike has just done the same with his projector. This ugrade is HUGE! Congrats.

Youthman can someone explain to me what goes in to filling out the CinemaScope screen? Do you have to stretch the image to fill? Do you use the anamorphic mode on the actual projector? If you do so, are you losing pixels and hence the only way to get back to the standard 4K resolution or native would to then put a paladin DCR lens on it? Sorry for all of the questions. I have an NX9 and am contemplating moving to CinemaScope.

@@Youthman The Rabbit hole is way deep my friend... JVC AutoCal is amazing. I calibrated my RS3000 with it and it looks incredible. You will need two meters to do it, one for color and one for gamma. @@donhensley403 They don't make the ISCOs anymore so you can only buy them used for less that $2k. The basics are this... either the projector, or a scaler, expands the scope image to fill the entire 16:9 panel. Since the image is now stretched out to use all the pixels, you use the 1.33x lens to horizontally stretch it to fill a 2.35:1 (or up to 2.40:1) screen. You get a projected image that is 33% larger, going from a diagonal 120" (104" wide) 16:9 to a 150" (138" wide) scope screen...that is just my screen size for reference.

Whatever you want to do is ok , I really want to learn more of projectors ( i am more in to AUDIO) . I have a friend few years ago that ask me about speakers for Home theater and i was able to recommend him different options but the part that i did not know was the projectors and screens ( on screen i just know that STEWART SCREENS ARE REALLY GOOD) . He told me something that not many people know and is THE CHROMA SUBSAMPLING 4:4:4, 4:2:2, 4:0:0 ! Chroma subsampling is a type of compression that reduces the color information in a signal in favor of luminance data. This reduces bandwidth without significantly affecting picture quality.I think is a topic that you can cover here in the channel ! Be BLESS BROTHER AND ENJOY YOUR NEW TOY !

I am going to keep it for my future home theater after college. Sad that projectors don't get dolby vision yet. I might sell my epson to get a 98'inch TCL. I'll just compensate the smaller screen by moving closer. This might end up in the living room anyway without painting the walls dark. I need a side by side comparison of both to see which one I would keep. Tvs have thousands of hours of life compared to my lamp based one. Don't know what to do yet.

Can’t go wrong with JVC in the PJ market I’m waiting to upgrade my Sony until the NX7/9 features are the standard for the entry level models. I will never spend what I did on my Sony VW1100es again. My plan is to run a stack of JVC or Sony future models once I’m happy with the price vs performance. Filling a 13’ wide screen just takes so much light output normally have to sacrifice contrast but today’s tech is getting there for sure without spending crazy laser performance money. I have been eyeing this native 4K NX7 though and really need to stop watching videos and reviews. The 790 is an amazing projector, but the home theater bug has one heck of a bite🤣...new gear day is hard to beat!

Would love to see the difference, since I also got the 4050 (btw it's the TW7400 in Europe) at my hometheater.

I also would be interested in a comparison as a Epson 5040UB owner. While they are not in the same price category It would give us existing owners a comparison as to what you can get for the extra money.
@roco95044 жыл бұрын
Please do!! Even though it’s different price points it’s GREAT to see what the extra $$ gets you! I’d love to hear your thoughts of the difference regardless

On side note, I don’t like that the seat is made of leather. I wouldn’t use it (nor personally support the company) but, I know my friend actually wants a single seat just like that so that’s be cool gift for him then

Thanks I just sold the projector so it will be shipping out on Monday. I did take some footage comparing the Epson and the JVC

I would watch that. I am very interested in the JVC NX-7. I have been thinking about upgrading to it from my Mitsubishi HC9000D. I want to be sure that it is worth it.

I hope you have a good unit. The new NX units have had a ton of problems. I love JVC, and still love my rs620. The black levels are vastly superior with JVC projector. But I'm not upgrading to these until they stop having so many problems.

Yes a comparison would be interesting. Very curios about the black

My Epson and previous two Panasonic projectors has grey bars. JVC is known for their killer black levels so I don’t believe there will be much comparison there.

I too had an Epson 5040ube then the JVC rs540u/790r and now the NX7. WOW! What an amazing projector! Check out the Panamorph DCR lens. You'll gain back the lost light in 2.4:1 films, enough that running HDR content in low power mode will look amazing! (I bought a B-stock lens to save $$$)

I have been drooling over that JVC for a while. I have a JVC RS1 that is 15 years old and has always worked perfect and of course a great picture. I am looking forward to your full review, so maybe it will tip me to pull that trigger!

Still running an older Sony VPL VW95ES, once this lamp dies, I will upgrade most likely to the NX7 too for the 4k ability and HDR. What mount are you using?

I’ve done the same thing. I have purchased the cheapest model in the line and then ended up upgrading a year or two down the road. Sometimes it is simply a matter of available finances. I do try to aim for the mid tier models now though.

I have the JVC RS400. I find the faux 4K still blows me away after 4 years. I’m thinking when 8k projectors that are laser or led come down in price in 4 or 5 years is when I will upgrade. I look at my 10k home theater and still feel blessed and humbled that I have 135” screen and Dolby Atmos. I have two bouncy house speakers. Would love to upgrade but that would involve a new receiver and ceiling speakers. Other financial responsibilities and other hobbies come first. In a nutshell what I am trying to say is be happy to what you have. Many people don’t have a roof over the heads and many that do are in dire straights with the impact of Covid-19.
@Youthman4 жыл бұрын
Nothing wrong with faux 4K. The Epson has served me well but I’m looking forward to the upgrade in image quality. I too feel extremely blessed that this is my job. I have been doing this full-time along with my website development business since January. I would be just as happy if I didn’t have a home theater.

@Youthman where did you buy your new projector from. I’m going to buy one and looking at using your amazon link.

I got mine through Eastporters but it's currently much cheaper on Amazon. I'm still SUPER impressed with it. If you do end up picking it up on Amazon, I would be grateful if you did use my link. ;)
@lackr00734 жыл бұрын
Youthman Thanks, I was hesitant because the JVC site says they don’t sell any projectors online. So I was a little concerned that they may be gray market projectors. The Amazon sellers I checked are not listed as JVC dealers... I may skip this purchase, but will use your links for other upgrades I plan on making. Side note.. love your channel, really thankful for all the years you spent in your prior life pouring into our youth! God bless!

@Youthman4 жыл бұрын
JVC is a huge upgrade over the Epson in image quality, detail, contrast and color. The Epson was brighter but anytime you increase brightness, you have to sacrifice the other qualities (which is why JVC doesn't make light canons).
