Jeff, that exhaust LOOKS so much better. Those gearbox mounts look like they need a bit more meat on them.

I think its too shitty to generate lift. Maybe drag? I guess optimistically you could say it makes the car lighter in the rear so you get even balance at high speeds? Lol

If that is the air filter I can see exposed on the side of the car there in red, I would highly suggest putting some fine mesh over it. Several 986 and 987 generation cars have burned to the ground because the owners pulled the cover off the air box for more intake noise and then the car sucked in a discarded cigarette butt which lit the filter on fire and spread from there. They call that mod "de-snorking" on the 987 generation, so you should be able to find info on the issue with a search for that. Great fun of a project though!

If you want the stiffest possible tubular frame solution, you'll probably want ovalized or streamline tubing in steel or a significantly thicker wall in aluminum. Having a convex profile with hard edges will allow you to carefully engineer force loading along the stiffer edge of the tube profile while the overall shape helps prevent warping or crushing better than square tube. It's just expensive, difficult to find, and complicated to work with due to how the shapes match up together. Because of this, most people just revert to common round tube and weld on gusseted flat mounting surfaces where necessary. If you do ever intend to get serious about building tubular steel framing structures, invest in a coping drill jig. It'll help tremendously, since you can just measure angles and length of tube and cut away. You can even create multiple copes on a single pipe to join it to a multi-point junction for corner supports.

I had the same feeling on my Anglia under acceleration, it was a slightly loose suspension bolt, which allowed the toe to change as it was loaded up under power - the bolt was tight (and wasn't going to fall out), but not tight tight - I'd not fully tightened it as I wanted to do it on the floor with load on the suspension so it didn't damage the bushes - but then forgot as there were a million other things I needed to do!

So happy with what u come up to, Jeff and guess with more torque and a bigger engine... You could work on beefing up the current engine mounts or adding some more of ur own to stick it to its place. This whole twisting you talk of isnt on full pedal to the metal and if its gonna be a race car, you don't want any of ur mounts broken while on track, address that and perhaps it d go good!

My friend. To hear some noises on car;s operation is sometimes normal , on the other hand - depending the source of ithem - it is quite sure that you have to look better to solve all the issues on car. This is crucial because it is very helpgull to isolate every new knock or noise on car to be sure that you will solve it on time and safely. As i heard the sounds on your car, i believe that you have to do more on car to improve it. Anyway, i liked the transformation of the cover. Have a nice day

Alternator : probably not the issue but they should have 1 way clutch in the pulley, identified having a bearing seal and not 1 piece. Belt off, screwy in the alt fans pulley should spin free 1 way and lock the other, it helps take the load off the belts Does sound better 👍

When your exhaust gets hot it expands and gets longer, that is one of the reasons why exhaust systems are rubber mounted and could be the strange feeling in the rear of the monster as well.

Belt squeel is often csused by dirt building up and being packed and polished in to the grooves of the pulleys, spraying with WD-40 or brake clean with the engine running often breaks it up, failing that clean them manually.

Hey Jeff, how did you affix the throttle stop to the firewall? Self-tapping sheet metal screws? What size? I’m asking because I would like to mount a small powered sub in the passenger footwell of my 996 (LHD), but am leery of screwing things into the body. I guess it is just the firewall which is not directly facing the elements…

I screwed it into the old pedal screws. I don't like self tappers ever, particularly not in a decent car. Make sure you don't drill into the fuel tank!
