Homeless Family with 5 Kids Living in a Hotel Room.

Invisible People

14 жыл бұрын

After walking out of this hotel room I broke down. To be honest, I don't know how Jean does it all. She tries to be a good mother to her five children. Every day, even in the Missouri rain, she rides a bicycle to her minimum wage job. But minimum wage is not enough for the family to break the weekly rate hotel cycle.
This is the invisible people we need to make visible. Luckily, this family and many others found a very kind man in St Charles County that is helping homeless families get back on their feet. I have traveled all over this country visiting people in hotels. Thanks to Paul Kruse [firststepbackhome.net] these families are staying in a fairly decent hotel. But it's still not home.
Many of the affordable, weekly rate hotels are run down. Most places are filled with drug dealers, criminal activity and are unfit for children. It's a vicious cycle of homelessness because while paying to stay at these hotels it's nearly impossible to save for first and last months rent to get out of the situation.
Jean once had a home, a car, and a better life for her family. Unfortunately, we are going to see more families losing everything and facing homelessness.
I am glad that we have people like Paul taking real action to help people. We need more to step up. We need you!

About Invisible People:
Since its launch in November 2008, Invisible People has leveraged the power of video and the massive reach of social media to share the compelling, gritty, and unfiltered stories of homeless people from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. The vlog (video blog) gets up close and personal with veterans, mothers, children, layoff victims and others who have been forced onto the streets by a variety of circumstances. Each week, they’re on InvisiblePeople.tv, and high traffic sites such as KZbin, Twitter and Facebook, proving to a global audience that while they may often be ignored, they are far from invisible.
Invisible People goes beyond the rhetoric, statistics, political debates, and limitations of social services to examine poverty in America via a medium that audiences of all ages can understand, and can’t ignore. The vlog puts into context one of our nation’s most troubling and prevalent issues through personal stories captured by the lens of Mark Horvath - its founder - and brings into focus the pain, hardship and hopelessness that millions face each day. One story at a time, videos posted on InvisiblePeople.tv shatter the stereotypes of America’s homeless, force shifts in perception and deliver a call to action that is being answered by national brands, nonprofit organizations and everyday citizens now committed to opening their eyes and their hearts to those too often forgotten.
Invisible People is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to changing the way we think about people experiencing homelessness.

First off to those who didn't listen before being judgmental... she had a steady job, she had a home. She had five beautiful children. She lost her job then her fiancee got injured and was unable to work. That is what happened. She got & shelter. She feeds them. Those kids know they are loved. What she did not do is give up, get bitter, and quit trying. She didn't ask to win the lotto, she asked for a good steady job. Hell of a woman, and SHAME on those of you who would pass judgment on her.

Blobby Blob you have no right to judge those people at all. She did have a job and a home and stuff and things happen but you know what ?most people would piss and shit on themselves if that happened but what is she doing? Sucking it up, buckling down, and working and raising her children! That’s something I know you’d never could do I can tell by your bad judgment.

@@blobbyblob2573 wow. Your bad judgment sucks. So if you were the one who lost their home and your job as well and ended up working at McDonald's just to pay a motel/hotel to let you stay there it's your own fault. You couldn't be more correct. That will never happen to me until it does and you don't see it coming. My family and I were renting a house the landlord didn't pay taxes on the house. The next thing I know she is accepting my rent for a year when she wasn't even the owner of the house anymore cause it sold at tax sale. The new owner waited a year like he was supposed to then had the sheriff evict my whole family 2 babies and all, then the ex-landlord drove by the house the night that our belongings were put out of the house, she sees everything in the yard. She calls me and asks if I need to borrow her truck to move our things to storage the following day. In the meantime, she is loading and stealing everything she could sell. All our clothes, kid's clothes kid's toys, electronics. what she could grab was gone, and have her on neighbors surveillance doing this. Here we are a year later still in weekly pay motel. But it was worse than this when it first happened we could barely pay daily and had to stress it checking out then worrying all day how or where we were gonna sleep that night but the lord def looked out and we were able to check back in every night and have a roof to sleep under, now we can pay weekly but no extra to save for anything better. Just blessed right now for what we do still have.

People need to STOP criticizing and keep their crappy comments to themselves. This could happen to anyone..no matter HOW good you think your back up plan is. At least she is getting up and going to WORK every day and TRYING!!! A budget hotel may not be the ideal place for her kids, but they've got a roof over the head, appear well-cared for, and are obviously loved. I hope things improve for her soon. I have NO problem helping hard-working people that have had bad luck and fallen on hard times. I have no problem giving a helping hand to someone that wants to help themselves! I do have a problem giving money and help to people that DON'T want to work...that DON'T want to try. There's a huge difference....and this woman deserves another chance!

Man, this is really eyeopening. Here I am sitting in my 400.000 dollar dream home which we just purchased here in Las Vegas. I was upset all week because since my retirement, I have gained weight because all I do is eat and watch TV. I have seen the homeless and less fortunate when we venture to the strip , but I had no idea it was that bad, and I'm sure it's even worse now with the pandemic. Very sobering to see.....thanks for making this documentary. We need more compassion in this world.

When I was a kid, we had everything ya know? I had a good life before then. But eventually my mom and dad got divorced, my mom sold her well-going barber shop. We got evicted and lived in motels for the next five-four years. It wasn't the best childhood, but today I'm happy it happened. Well not happy, but just glad that it made me into the person I am today. I'm better now, we actually have a temporary home, if you can say a relatives summer house is good then yeah. I was around eight when we were evicted, now I'm fourteen. I always feel emotional whenever I see this video, cause I know what it's like as a kid to not have a home and to just move from motel to motel, wondering what were gonna eat tomorrow or how we're gonna pay for rent. Just knowing that I'm not the only one whose went through this, somehow comforts me lol

Wow I can't believe what I am reading by so many of you. Apparently you missed the part where she said she had a job, house, cars. She had plans for her life just like each and everyone of you. If you all lost your jobs, and houses you would be in her situation. God knows all of you would eventually go homeless with your jobs as well. Be humans. God Bless you Jean and your family.

And also, to all those people who are downing this woman, I certainly hope that God does not show you the same kind of compassion you show to this woman! "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-2

I find it surprising that the elders, i.e.( Grandparents parents, aunts, uncles,)etc... of young families, who find themselves in such a predicament, do not seem to intervene and assist with family members in difficult times anymore, at least not as much. When yer on yer own, yer on yer own. Sad!

well done America. A country where if you are down you get kicked while being down and you never or almost never give up again. It's a shame how that system works. You become poor then never make it to middle class and so on. This is what the rest of the world does not see about America. They think its a wonderland full of rich folks

Something is better than nothing and remember that none of our situations is last. The house is more beautiful than living on the streets or for some people who live without blocks house, just a grass houses. Stay strong my sister. God is with us.

My mom and dad lived in a motel for a while... then a house, then an apartment that they were evicted from. Then my dad left my mom and my mom was in a travel trailer. From there, she was in a friend’s garage. My mom has COPD, Parkinson’s, kidney diseases so the strange thing is that those health issues helped her to be housed in assisted living where she is now.

Girl, you are not a failure but I understand how and why you feel that way. My husband and I have been living in a hotel room with our 2 young children for a little over a year now. At first, we struggled daily to check out and try to borrow enough money to come back to the motel to sleep and do it again the next day. now I am so thankful and grateful we are blessed and able to pay by the week. I am in the same boat you are as far as being stuck in the cycle of paying to survive daily and only having down to the dollar to make it through that much less having extra dollars to put up and save toward something better. I can't even imagine having half of what we had before all of this happened. During this process, most of our belongings were stolen from us by people that "cared" about us. If stealing my baby's clothes and all of their toys is caring then please don't care about us. What didn't get stolen was in a storage unit and it came due so they said they would work with us given our circumstances. I went the following week to make a payment but wouldn't you know just as life would have it she let my unit go to auction just one day prior to me being able to pay and I was communicating with her. That unit was literally ALL of our belongings in the whole world. pregnancy pics things belonging to my dead mother. EVERYTHING!! Thanks for listening y'all! We will pray for you and your family just keep us in mind when you send one up to the lord above

We need to all realize that homeless lives matter, just as any life matters. We have the ability to become a type 2 planetary consciousness. In order to achieve that goal we need to spread the wealth to every being on this planet there should be no hungry and no homeless.
