May be unrelated but fixed similar motor yesterday, wouldn't rev up all the way and discovered blocked spark arrestor on muffler. Solid carbon from likely too much oil in mix from previous owner. Found an awesome fix holding screen/arrestor with needle nose pliers up to propane torch. Burns red/orange hot and incinerates all deposits. Runs like a charm now. Cheers!

"helping some Ryobi carb issues " with my supportive comment. if you have done ALL and even repeated yourself... small possibility IF... you had running/ starting issues... and needing to full choke to run... that the small module used to actuate the throttle is leaking air profusely... fouling all starting and running. I had issues arise after 7-8 years of lite happy use... but i noticed that the machine started harder and harder and needed the choke set more fully on to run. I use premium.. no ethanol. the bulb breaks down and i replace it and can never start it after that. I assumed I had a small rubber piece go in the carb.. so i cleaned the carb. NO LUCK. I moved on and ordered a carb. I put the new hoses/ filter and carb on and made an error... I kept my throttle actuator (turns out it was leaking so much air, it would NOT run. I switched back and forth between the new and old carb assuming i dont understand... When i thought... why keep the old Throttle module.... I switched it out to the new ILL-Fitting cable connector... and poof... like magic.. It ran. a tiny carb adjustment and I am back in business.. I hope this helps somebody.. Great VID

The carburetor screen was stopped up, but the tank filter is okay, so more than likely the fuel lines were on backwards. Many of these from the factory come with fuel lines installed backwards on these carbs in where you must install the fuel line with the tank filter onto the carb connection closest to the primer bulb. So being the carb screen was clogged it was running off of the fuel return line that has no filter. The primer bulb connection is the suction side people.

Yeah I was one of the millions, had mine for about 6 years. Gas tank started leaking; I had ideas on taking it apart but I saw a deal on a Black&Decker lithium power unit; bought it and never looked back. I have about 1/2 acre that I trim after mowing and it works great on one charge for the light stuff. The gas units are great for more challenging areas to work on. Although the speedier video is funny to watch sometimes I think some people looking for details in your repair videos may end up missing all you have to offer. You can slow it down but then you miss some good commentary. Just a though...

I just got a battery powered black in decker from my same brother in law. It was thrown out and I put in a new 12V lead acid battery for about $12 shipped. I really like it because I set it up for my wife so she can use it when she does her weeding and the like. I'm on the fence about the speed of video. I have other videos of the same content that go at normal speed. The videos seem to long if I just go at normal speed. I'm finding fast and then slowing down for details keeps in short and interesting. Thanks for the feeback Point taken.

just curious, what psi do you have for compression? I had a trimmer and a chainsaw over the years that would fail to idle and a quick compression check revealed it was too low. I uped the low screw a little on both tools and was able to get a few more years out of them. ultimately, both machines needed a rebuild. new bearings, new piston/ring/cylinder kit and Wham-O! new engine. best compression is about 110psi, low but happy is around 90psi, very hard starting and won't idle is 70-75psi. look for OEM cylinder kits from the engine manufacturer. (not necessarily the brand of tool) great video btw. keep up the good work!

great job on the video here is my question I am looking to replace my old 4 cycle string trimmer problem is looking at reviews I'm finding for every good 4 or 5 star review there is a bad 1 star review on every brand I look at. I was thinking about the troy bilt 17 " straight shaft 4 cycle I believe it is a 28 or 30 cc, But the reviews are very mixed on it as well. any advise on a good brand to look at. I do a lot with it stick edge, trim, blow, and I also have the tiller attachment but use it mainly to just till up the soil after loosening and turning it by hand. want to stay with 4 cycle because I was replacing 2 cycle nearly every year. the 4 cycle I have has been trouble free for the 6 years I've had it but it is starting to show signs of power loss just wearing out I guess. any recommendation you have on a replacement?

Very nice video and how to rebuild the carb. I haven't checked the screen in the carb, but mine will not keep the primer bulb full, the lines were loose going into the tank but I pulled them up out of the tank until they were tight and blowed compressed air through both fuel lines, still having trouble keeping the primer to hold gas, I have had it running when I took off the top plate with the primer bulb and removed a rubber diaphragm and forgot to put it back on and put the primer plate back on and it did pump up gas and would run with the choke in the middle, but will die when I drop the choke off. I saw where I had not put the rubber diaphragm back in so I did that and now will not prime up for me, any idea's?
