Homemade Chicken and Dumplings (2025 version)

New Orleans native Charlie Andrews demonstrates how to make Homemade chicken and dumplings. This is a true southern classic dish. It consists of chicken pieces cooked in water and the resulting chicken stock; the dumplings are cooked by boiling. The dumplings can be a biscuit, or a pie dough type and they can be rolled into a ball, flattened, cut into shapes and dropped into a simmering liquid. You can get 6 to 8 servings from this recipe. It's a classic southern food dish and it's absolutely delicious. I hope you all will give this recipe a try.

I’m wondering if there are any substitutes for the chicken, such as beef or pork that will pull apart with a fork, that can be made into a succulent gravy for those dumplings?
