Homemade exhaust for GT1 Lamborghini Murcielago

I decide to take on the challenge of remaking the rear section of exhaust on my LP640 Murcielago to match the custom tip we've already made in the RGT rear bumper.

This project will transform you to the next level. This is one of the most special custom cars ever created. The absolute only change I would make if it were mine would be a silver or anthracite wheel color but I respect the RGT replica color scheme. Congrats on such an amazing build!

Loving the Car so much 🔥🏁 Just one "small" advice from my side, since this is a roadcar, please never even think about driving this through germany to the Nürburgring, that thing will be impounded faster that you could say "can you just" to craig 😅🤦‍♂️ put it on a doubledecker trailer with vitten and be sure to tell us viewers beforehand when you´ll be driving there. Wont hesitate for even a slplit second to drive 3 hours to the Ring just to see these two with my own eyes 👀

Why would it be an issue if it's road legal in the U.K? Obviously if it was.a German car I can fully understand, but it's not.

@@driftworks Cause the car needs to be roadlegal in the country your in. so for legal reasons your car would be able to pass german inspections, wing witdh, noise, 8cm ground clearance and so on. saw quite a few cars being impounded by the cops on their way to the ring in the last few years. German Police is a utter joke, they have the reason to impound you cause "if" you get in an accident with another car, you were driving an illegal car, in their eyes. I know you´ve been to the Ring a few times, but there is always that one wrong moment in time, especially with an car thats standing out as much as the lambo

Have you thought about getting a welding screen on casters to maybe protect the nice paint from sparks and splatter. They are cheap on Amazon

Have you seen NoWeeds exhaust diverters? They look like a great solution for noisy/quiet systems, 100% of exhaust gas is diverted, there is probably less restriction in quiet mode too.

I just had a look. It looks like it's just a different way of doing an exhaust cutout like we had on the V10 M3. What we have on this is much better. With the valves closed it all goes through the massive silencer. With them open it's straight through, and the exhaust gases (& flames) come out the back of the car where they should.

Is it worth smoke/pressure/water testing this piece to check for pin holes in the welds?

No need. it's only the end section and is visually completely sealed. You'd do it if it was a manifold pre turbo, or intercooler or radiator pipes.

No, it could on a heavily silenced standard hatchback if it was pre silencer. This is none of the above.

Welding stainless without back purge means there wont be full penetration. If you grind the "slag" off the inside is pretty much untouched. Back purging a manifold is in my opinion a must because the stress that heat causes on a manifold and if that "slag" goes thru a turbo no ones gonna be very happy. On a end pipe like in the video it does not matter because those tips wont see much heat anyways. When it comes to distortion it just needs to be anticipate, sch pipe pulls around 6-8mm on welding, so on manifold builds some just but the pipe ends that much off centre.

As a point of interest, did driftworks know Craig before moving next door to them? Or was it a case of 'they probably have loud things coming and going so we can blend in' / just having access to a decent fabricator?

I met Craig many years ago when I was fitting R34 GTR Brembos to my S14 and one of the calipers I'd bought had a stripped brake hose thread. To anyone else it was scrap. He sorted it for me. He then became a customer of Driftworks and used to roast tyres when leaving our old unit. I can't remember if Craig told us about the unit next door to him being for sale, or if it was just destiny.
