When you see the white cloud coming out of the filament, it means that there's enough oxygen in there to burn the tungsten.

Or CO, it also bourns. There is mixture of CO2 and CO inside, also some oxygen at the top especially.

@@krzysztofwaleska That's interesting. I never thought of CO. Thanks!

The problem is nitrogen. Tungsten burns with nitrogen to tungsten nitride. If you want to make a incandelescent lamp you have to work with a rare gas atmosphere around the glowing wire. The best is argon. You can use helium as well but it has a higher convection rate which cools the wire. You can also use a mixture of argon with a little content of brom to make a halogen lamp. :)

You can't use water as it always has oxygen dissolved in it and the partial vacuum draws it out, try using liquid gallium.

Or use a jar that can be sealed with a metal lid, which then allows you to put a schraeder fitting in there with some epoxy, so you can evacuate all the air inside, which will allow it to work better.

Did you try with thicker tungsten? .5 mm etc

Sir, I think at high filament temperature the inside CO2 breaks and produces O2 and oxidized the filament and it Burns out. So Try filling the pot using liquid nitrogen vapour 🙄 that may last quite longer.

Interesting experiment. However be aware that: - Not all oxigen will be removed. - The wire in a normal lamp will also fail when to much energy is put in it.

Cool demo, but this isn't going to work without a proper protective atmosphere or vacuum. Even in a full CO2 atmosphere, the tungsten might react with the CO2 at those temperatures. But you're definitely not even close to removing enough oxygen the way you did it. It was clearly starting to burn when it got bright. You could have turned off the power at that point and it would have been just as bright.

The video was very informative good👍 But 220v ac incuncent lamp how works, there are tooo thin tungstain wire with high amp . But the lamp was continuously glowing don't burn?

That was the real challenge when the technology was perfected. There are a few factors: 1. Make the filament extremely thin, but with minimal thickness variation. 2. Coil it up finely to increase the length of filament 3. Actually use an alloy with lower conductivity (add Osmium, which is where the company name Osram [Osmium + Wolfram] famously came from) All of these come together to increase the resistance enough to limit the power at this high voltage, without significantly reducing lifespan.

Helium is the least reactive gas and you can find it in almost every balloon

It is possivle that the hot metall will reduce the CO2 so the wire oxidises and breaks

I saw a video where a regular lightbulb was smashed, then immersed in liquid nitrogen and powered up. It appeared to work pretty much as normal. I guess I shouldn't be surprised but I was.

Thanks. Is tungsten dangerous to touch or does it have dangerous gases?

cool, been watching dr stone lol did you touch all the wire with bare hands! you transferred the oils onto it by accident perhaps, burn it first to turn the volatiles into carbon might work better as would heating the jar to better pull an extra vacuum than paper once it cools
